Injuries in D3 sports

From my experience in D3 athletics so far I have noticed a VERY high rate of student athletes who have suffered catastrophic injuries/surgical procedures. What I mean is that to me it seems like D3 programs (football is what im specifically referring to) maybe pick up the D1 recruit that tore his ACL in his senior year?

Has anyone else noticed this? Any thoughts?

Chuck Moore at Mount Union is a perfect example of this...
