Quote from: BSCpanthers on November 24, 2024, 12:35:11 PMIan is a good kid with a great family.  Tailgated with them the last two season at BSC.  He was our starting kicker last season, and struggled a bit on FG's.  He was never given an opportunity to win us the game at Centre for our last game and no one in the stands was happy with that coaching decision.  It has been a lot of fun the last two weeks watching him succeed at Auburn, he has a very proud Momma right now.   ;D

Crazy good story.  He was 1-4 last season (a 26-yard chip shot against Trinity the only make; two others were blocked) and so far 4-5 at Auburn.  Here's a nice story on Vachon written by the Auburn beat writer for the Montgomery Advertiser.

You kick it. When you have an All American kicker, take it to overtime. It's college overtime not NFL. Trinity made a FG prior to that long CRU game winning drive.

As we've seen already...You never know when a defense comes up with a pick, then take a mid range FG for the win.

Credit to Ron for the scoop: "ETBU freshman QB Kaden Brown (176-251-2, 23 TDs, 2376 yards), the ASC Offensive Player of the Year, has entered the transfer portal."

I assume he may get some higher level looks, but if not (and assuming he has the grades), Urban needs to get him to Trinity ASAP.

Dude had a NIL deal at ETBU (they bragged on it last week) and is looking to get back to D1 (redshirted at South Dakota State before coming to ETBU).  Already lined up an offer at La Tech.

NIL will further separate the haves and have nots in D3.

Welp, guess we're cheering for Centre, UMHB, and Maryville this weekend.  ::)
Also keeping eyes on TLU. Hope the team that showed up the first 59.5 min vs Southwestern missed the bus.

Uphill battles for all the teams above today.  UMHB will have to play the game they did at UW-W to advance, not sure either Centre or M'ville have any kind of chance but that's why they play the games.

Final Welker Horn update of the season:  his team faced the defending champion Dallas Christian squad in the TAPPS semis last night, which in their last six games averaged over 54 points per game while surrendering a total of 57.  Lubbock Christian lost 43-38, but Welker certainly did everything in his power to win the game:
- 393 yards passing on 28-44 with 5 TDs, two 2-point conversions and no interceptions
- ran for 50 yards including two 2-point conversions (team total rushing yardage:  29 yards)
- oh, and he's apparently also their punter

Was listening to a 'cast on Youtube previewing this and a number of other games in the region and one of the guys said "he's signed with Trinity but can certainly do better."  Let's hope that the experiences Tucker and Raider have had will convince Welker that that's not the case.

Centre playing CMU about even.

UMHB playing very well at HSU.

Good games to watch.

And then there's poor TLU.

Centre played a helluva game and what did Gohmann end up with, 63 passes?  That he was able to get that many off with a totally ineffective rushing game (16 att, -33 yards) is a tribute both to him and his OL.  And Blake Busson, wow, 13 receptions for 212 yards before being shut out late in the ballgame.

Though if CMU had played McGinnis at QB before late Q4, or brought him in every second or third series, it might not have been that close as Centre couldn't stop him.

Trinity's Tyler Huettel took the AFCA's 1st Team All American Kicker award!

Berry's Brandon Cade was 2nd Team RB and Tony Garcia was 2nd Team OL

Region 3 had a good amount of players receive honors

Maryville's Grant Henderson, DB, first team. It will be interesting to see how Maryville fits in to the SAA,

Surprise, surprise ... with Trinity and Southwestern joining next season, championships suddenly will no longer be hosted by the top seed.  And TU and SW were selected to host a very small number of championships over the next four seasons.  https://x.com/saa_sports/status/1866551054738862475

Just checking, this isn't surprising because schools won't want to make another trip to Texas?

The "best team hosts" approach would force schools on the other side of the conference to make expensive last-second flight reservations, whether the champions are in the east or the west, so it makes sense that they'd move to the SCAC model.  I don't like that Centre ends up hosting all of the swimming and diving championships as well as all the indoor track and field championships, in addition to four other championships; the other schools each end up with a total of 4-6 championships over the four years.  All of the golf championships end up at "Greystone Country Club" which is apparently near Nashville - a huge advantage to the schools in the east who can drive there to practice.

I do have to take back the snide comment about TU and SW only hosting a few - other than the Centre (12) and golf situations they host five championships each, in line with the rest of the conference.
