On today's episode of "people you didn't know went to SAA schools," it would appear Anson Mount, who (nerd alert!) plays Captain Christopher Pike on "Star Trek: Strange New Worlds", attended Sewanee.

The final graduating class of BSC has now graduated.  Great seeing my kid get his diploma from such a great school.  The prestige that goes with that diploma will never fade.

And we still get to watch BSC baseball, they won their first game in the super regional.  They are one win away from baseball for a school that no longer exist.

FORWARD EVER!!!

Yep... remember him as a freshman the year I moved from Sewanee to Atlanta.  His father, also a Sewanee graduate, was the one of the original contributing editors at Playboy in late 1950s/early 1960s.  You'll see him and his wife and kids on campus every now and then as they still own a farm up in the far Nashville suburbs in addition to properties in NYC and LA.

They lost a toughie in the opener but had a stirring late comeback and two-run walkoff to stay alive yesterday.  Pat actually caught the kid's father telling him to "do his job" and on the very next pitch he clobbered it - watch on Xitter: https://twitter.com/d3baseball/status/1797062131218550799

Next up is UW-Whitewater in another elimination game, 5PM ET Sunday.

Love it. Great story.

11-10, got walked off in the bottom of the 9th.  We were up 10-5 and couldn't hold it.

THE END
FORWARD, EVER!!!

Birmingham Southern College, you will be missed by so many.

Thank you to the boys for giving us a couple of extra days.

BSCPanthers,

I was cheering for your boys! I've heard first hand how BSC has touched the lives of many and how special that institution was for so many. At CNU, when our President announced his retirement and the search for his successor began, the University appointed the Chief of Staff as Interim President. She performed amazingly in the difficult time of transition. She is a BSC Panther! A very special lady! Forward Ever!

Trinity today announced its 2024 Hall of Fame class, and at last the late, great Roy Hampton will be honored for his contributions to the program in the early 2000s, when he led the school to its only appearance in the Stagg Bowl.  He was an amazing quarterback who still holds ten school records.

This recognition is at least a decade overdue, and I hope his surviving family members can take a measure of comfort in it.

According to at least one media report, Miles College has submitted a bid to purchase the Birmingham-Southern campus, but no details (or confirmations) were offered.

This report is two days old and I haven't found another to corroborate it.  The station repeated the story yesterday with no new information.

I'm not sure how Miles can do it without some sort of combining of the two schools. Miles endowment is reported to only be around $30mil, there has already been an offer of $52mil from A&M.  I'm still pushing for a merge between the two schools.  Unfortunately, at this point it would be 99% Miles students due to BSC students moving on, but maybe they could keep some of the professors.

According to a decent story in the Athletic (free account required to read; unfortunately no 'share article' link) on the BSC baseball program's last days, Coach Weisberg invited his alumni to come on the field for a final bow after the end of the UW-W loss.  The NCAA told him not to do it, but he ignored them.  Good for him and his team.

What they gonna do? Put them on probation?

Kudos to the coach!!!

Recently CNU hosted Men's Lacrosse in the NCAA post season and played Cabrini. Cabrini was in the exact same situation as BSC. School had closed, athletic team moving on. CNU won that game and the CNU coach let his players and fans know ahead of time what the situation was for Cabrini. CNU players lined the exit from the field and Cabrini players and coaches exited the field to a standing ovation from the players, coaches and fans. I forwarded a video of this to Pat Coleman. If I was smart enough, I could figure out how to upload the video here.

Quote from: river2 on May 22, 2024, 04:58:44 PMIt would be a meaningful budget increase for any SCAC football school to leave for SAA, not happening.
On this front... Hendrix to SCAC will be announced shortly. Won't go into effect until 2025 to my understanding but haven't seen the official announcement anywhere.
