Lewis (Berry QB) has thrown 3 or 4 balls that easily could have been intercepted, one interception was wiped out on an iffy pass interference call where the DPU defender had clear position (as far as I could tell on Berry's surprisingly iffy video, and they never replay anything).

Hasn't gotten any better for Berry. Down 24-0 with just 108 total yards. DePauw only has 198 yards itself, but has had the advantage of some good field position, given that Berry's punter is only averaging 23 yards on the day. Doesn't look like the SAA is going to have a Pool C candidate barring something wild.

Lewis may be done for the day after he was very slow getting up after being slammed to the turf after a sack.  His line on the day if so:  4-23 for 39 yards, no TDs, one interception.

Berry with 111 yards total with nine minutes to play and nearly that many penalty yards assessed against.

Depauw up 31-0 and driving again.

Sewanee is not having any trouble today with Westminster with the score 42-0 with just over 6:00 minutes left in the game.

Well.

The Berry result changes the landscape in the SAA.  Let's see if it provides some extra motivation today against Belhaven.

Any thoughts on whether Berry forgot how to play offense or was Depauw that good? I did not expect that stat line.

tigerguy

I think DePauw is solid, but Berry played awful. Their QB is....not great. Even in  last week's 43-7 win, he was only 6-13. Today he was 6-29. Any team is going to stack the box against that kind of accuracy. I was still very surprised that Berry's line wasn't getting any push whatsoever.

Well RMC looked surprisingly stagnant today vs Hobart so that could be an interesting game next week. Maybe interesting isn't the right word...

Berry goes as far as their running game will take them.  The DPU defense really locked down Brandon Case whose longest run today was nine yards.  They do miss the QB who graduated last year.

Of course this season the SAA is wide open, and I don't have a dog in the fight....   :-X

I would encourage everyone writing off Trinity after last week's disaster not to take too much out of this game, wonderful as it's been.  Belhaven managed to lose to Millsaps who have not exactly been a paragon of excellence for a decade now.

tigerguy

Was very surprised to see freshman qb Hondo Franklin taking over for Trinity. Figured it would be Bishop or Vaske. Franklin was a very intriguing high school player though and has a lot of talent.

tigerguy

Also - why isn't Huettel punting? Was All-American at St. Olaf. Only reason he didn't punt when he came to Trinity was because we had another all-American-esque punter.

Ron Boerger

Huttel was probably tired having to kick all those XPs and kickoffs!

W&L's preview of this weekend's game in San Antonio.  The Generals are primarily a running team deploying a modified triple option wing-T offense and rank third nationally at 393 rushing yards per game, and 17th nationally at 507 yards of total offense per game.  For their part, the Tigers are allowing 68.5 yards on the ground per game, so it will be a matchup of strengths on Saturday.

Trinity's preview is here.
