ECSU has little trouble with St Joseph's ME (7-3-1) and top scorer Kyle Shangraw,  (10 games  856 min.  8 goals  3 assist.  19 points) gaining a 3-0 victory at Nevers Field.  Jennison, Power and  Tabon and goals for Eastern.  I think today's game was probably the best I have ever seen a Warrior team play, even considering last year team.  Defense was impenetrable, time of possession/technical ball control was outstanding, and scoring set-ups were executed with precision, all with a lot of freshman/soph. playing in between seasoned veterans like Mitch Power, Carl Stensland, Chris Giustina and Luke Capezzone.  Freshman Alejandro Tabon's goal was a classic, with excellent ball control off the cross, a couple of nice moves and a strong clean finish. Freshman Goalkeeper Greg Walton had another clean sheet today, (5th in a row) and is gaining more and more confidence and experience as time goes on. What is turning out to be, what I called a rebuilding year, is the making of a solid team which with good health and continuous improvement, will have a very good year and looks to be a dangerous team in the making over the next couple of years!!!
Eastern will now be tested on the road with some excellent competition, ie Wesleyan, 10/8; Babson, 10/14; and returning home 10/19 vs RIC, who, I think the Warriors will contend with for the 2013 LEC title.
Their play thus far was rewarded this week with points awarded in the recent d3 soccer top 25 poll

Tuned in for the majority of the match to see St. Joes.  Goalkeeper was a hs basketball teammate of my nephew.  This contest was never in doubt and quite frankly the SJ's game just left me scratching my head.  Benner did what he could but when he's facing point blank shots from 15 yds with no defender within 5 yds it's going to be pretty tough to stop.  The most perplexing thing though was the SJ's offense.  ECSU got credit for 4 saves but it seemed at least double that many times that SJs launched one at the goal from 35-40 yds out with no chance of scoring.  Just seemed lazy and impatient, like they didn't want to work it all the way in to get a better opportunity.  Tough to really get a good read on ECSU from this game because the just completely overmatched St Josephs.  The Wes game next week should be a good test.  ECSU should win that one.

Mag,
Good points, and it is accurate to say Eastern has not really had that tough of a schedule thus far.  Wesleyan, Babson tests will show the true metal of the team.
If Mitch Power, Tim Jenneson stay healthy they will provide the bulk of the offense. ( also 9 other players have scored goals so Eastern has scoring potential with a rang of players.  Our Freshman goalkeeper has not really been tested except for the first couple game of the season vs Widener and Swarthmore giving up 6 goals in 2 games, but as I said in my previous post, Walton seems to be gaining confidence and expertise, at least based on what I have seen. ECSU's overall defense has been pretty good as well, which helps his recent stats.
I am really pleasantly surprised on how well the young players are performing so far.

Saint of Old

ECSU is a dangerous squad.
The program had a great run in 11' and I really think they are on the crusp of becoming elite.

The next 4 weeks will tell us a lot about quite a few teams.

ECSUalum

Alo,

Thanks for the clarification, I have to admit I assumed Walton played the whole game and did not see the boxscore :-[.

Saint,

I agree, if this large batch of STARTING FRESHMEN GEL LIKE I HOPE, 2015-16 COULD BE INTERSTING.  COACH DEVITO HAS DONE A NICE JOB SO FAR!!!

Do not know what was the problem with Eastern today, but got their butts handed to them by Babson today 2-0 :-[
Must have had at least 15 bad passes/give aways today, no offence to speak of, and was TOTALLY out played by the Beavers
Very poor possession stats due to being out hustled in most aspects of the game!!!  Poorest game I have seen in a couple of years!!!
Lets hope they can regroup for next game because this game was a disaster!!!   >:(

ECSUalum

Another sort of sloppy passing game for Eastern, however, with 17 sec left in regulation time, Mitch Power rockets in the only goal of the match into the upeer right corner from 15 yds , to give the Warriors a 1-0 win over Rhode Island College.

Additionally, Eastern have not looked as competent on set pieces this year, which needs some work, especially for LEC/NCAA tournament play.

ECSU play a offensively explosive UMDartmouth squad @ Dartmouth MA next weekend!!!!  Win this match, clinch LEC Tourney home field advantage!!!

US Coast Guard Academy plays ECSU to a 0-0 tie in a pretty evenly matched game from a stats standpoint, (only Live stats this afternoon). Eastern's record goes to 9-2-4, USCGA now 6-6-2.
UMass Dartmouth fell to Bridgewater St tonight 1-0 and Keene St fell to Springfield 2-1.
Huge LEC match Sat. with ECSU vs USD playing for regular season championship and home field advantage.

Hard to believe that the LEC and/or UMass Dartmouth will not be streaming the LEC regular season title game vs ECSU this Saturday, while all other LEC games will have video ???

Looks like the game is now being streamed!!!  Fantastic, Thanks LEC/UMD

ECSUalum

Eastern completely outclassed, outplayed, outhustled by UM Dartmouth.  Showed that the Corsairs are the best team in the LEC. They win the regular season and home field advantage.  If ECSU continues like this, they can call it a season, just painful to watch.   >:(

The new site has nice set of photos, (bird's eye views of outdoor facilities), of athletic facilities, which they never had before!!

Surprise surprise .....UMD loses to WestConn 2-0 today, so ECSU needs to beat Plymouth St today to clinch home field advantage for Wednesday's start of LEC Tournament.  THANKS TO THE COLONIALS FOR GIVING THE WARRIORS A SHOT!!!

Eastern takes care of business vs Plymouth St 3-1, so will host LEC Tourney Wednesday Nov 6 At Thomas Nevers Field
