No doubt when the Ole's are at fill strength, the potential is there for them to have a great attack. With the end of the season looming, they will have to be clicking right out the gate, no time for Rosenthal to get settled back in. It should be a great battle for second place.

Anything can happen in the MIAC Playoffs, beating the same team twice in a season is no easy task. But I'm really pulling for a big run out of the Gusties!

GarbageGoals33

Rosenthal should help the Ole attack quite a bit.  It is unfortunate that he was injured most of the season.  It would've been interesting to see how the Oles would've done with him in the lineup.

KnightRider23

Did Rosenthal get hurt again after the Mac game? He played a few minutes in the first half and then played almost the entire second half and could have won the game in OT...I still think the biggest questions over Olaf this year have been their backline and midfield, so we'll see how they do with three tough games to finish the year.

jimmy92

Nope, Rosenthal wasn't hurt again. It was more a case of believing that Olaf didn't need to risk him in the games after that and letting him rest it as long as possible I believe.

Weekend games and predictions:

SMU @ SJU: SJU 3-0
Bethel @ Hamline:  Pipers 1-0.
CarlEton @ Concordia: CarlE's 4-1
Augsburg @ GAC: GAC 1-0
UST @ St. Olaf: St. Olaf 3-2

Must win games for several MIAC teams.

BradleyFan001

Congrats to GAC for clinching. Is this the earliest a team has clinched? Carleton in '09 clinched with 1 game left. 3 games left seems like a huge accomplishment (or bad showing from the rest of the team).

SMU @ SJU: SJU 2-0
Bethel @ Hamline:  Pipers 1-0
CarlEton @ Concordia: Carleton 3-0
Augsburg @ GAC: GAC 3-1
UST @ St. Olaf: St. Olaf 2-1

Great to see GAC Clinch a Playoff Spot. Now the boys have to get another win or two and lock up the #1 seed!

Predictions for this weekend:

SMU @ SJU: SJU 1-0
Bethel @ Hamline:  Pipers 2-0
CarlEton @ Concordia: Carleton 3-0
Augsburg @ GAC: GAC 2-0
UST @ St. Olaf: St. Olaf 2-1 OT

KnightRider23

Weekend Predictions:

SMU @ SJU: SJU 2-0
Bethel @ Hamline: Beths 3-1
CarLES @ Cobbers: 2-0 Carls
Augs @ GAC: 2-1 OT Gac
UST @ STOLES: 3-2 Sto

jimmy92

Oles with a 1-0 win v UST thanks to a late bomb from outside the box by Mackenzie Lund. St. Thomas maybe only created 1 obvious chance the entire game.
Nick Lund should return for the Oles next week after missing this game, and Rosenthal played a majority of yesterday's game and looked sharp. The Oles are building...

MIAC Results from 10/26:

Bethel 0 Hamline 1: The Pipers snatch their first win in the MIAC this season. Nice to see their hard work this season rewarded with a win.

Carleton 1 Concordia 0 (OT): It took a little more than 90 minutes, but the Knights are able to edge the Corn Cobs on a cold Moorhead afternoon. McGarrity with an absolute laser from a corner kick to seal a crucial 3 points and a playoff spot for the Knights.

Augsburg 0 Gustavus 2: A win that effectively seals first spot, an outright title, and home-field advantage for the Gusties. A pretty remarkable achievement. Hats off to them.

St. Thomas 0 St. Olaf 1: 89th winner by Kennnnzzzziiieeee and a crucial home win for the Oles. Loved the goal description for his goal as just 'snipe'. Seems like Olaf had control of the play for most of the game. Both the Oles and Carls can end Augsburg and St. Thomas' seasons respectively on Tuesday with wins.

St. Mary's 0 St. John's 2: The Johnnies doing their part to solidify the MIAC playoff picture with a shutout at home against the Cards. Never would have thought St. John's would have been at this point after some disappointing results to start out the campaign. What a recovery.

Tuesday Preview/Playoff Implications (all games bar Mac/Con are a 3:30 kickoff):

Mac at Concordia: Playing for pride at this point. The Cobbers surprise by snatching a 2-1 home win.

Gustavus at Bethel: With a win, GAC seals the title outright and home-field advantage. A tie/loss gives the Northfield sides a slight glimmer of hope for a share of the title. Bethel can be a tricky task at home, but I can't see GAC not getting a result here. 2-0 win and a MIAC title for the Gusties.

Carleton at St. Thomas: Massive playoff implications for both teams. A CAR win/draw eliminates the Tommies from a chance at postseason play. The Knights need to match the Oles' result against Augsburg to make their end of season clash a decider for who gets to host their MIAC playoff semi-final. Tommies need two wins from their last two games and a St. John's loss to Concordia on the final day to make the playoffs. Carleton-St. Thomas games are tight affairs, especially in St. Paul (where they have gone to OT in the last two meetings), but the Knights are on a roll and I expect them to pull off a narrow victory here. 2-1 Knights.

Augsburg at St. Olaf: Almost identical to the Carleton-St. Thomas implications, albeit with the playoff-bound team at home this time. Rolf Melby is a big home-field advantage for the Oles, in that their field is generally the worst in the MIAC around late October/early November. The field becomes incredibly firm and the field tapers off at the corners, so a lot of these games come down to athleticism and mistakes. Olaf have had a good record against the Auggies at home in recent years and I think that continues, making Saturday's contest against Carleton a monumental match for postseason play. 2-1 Oles.

St. Mary's at Hamline: No playoff implications. Hamline wins and extends their winning streak to two. 1-0 Pipers.

BradleyFan001

Carleton taking player of the week awards 3 weeks in a row??   ;D ;D

Mac @ Concordia: 2-1 Long trip for Mac but they come away with one.

Gac @ Bethel: 3-0 Gac adds to their unbeaten streak.

Carleton @ STU: 1-1. Big game for both teams. Maybe St.Thomas is still embarrassed by the 4-0 loss last year.

Augs @ Olaf: 0-2 Olaf wins and gets ready for the Northfield Derby on Saturday.

SMU @ Hamline: 0-2 Snorefest

GAC clinches the MIAC Championship with a 4-1 win over Bethel! Great stuff!

CarlEton beats St Thomas 2-1 in OT and the Auggies with and upset over St Olaf. With these results It seems as though the stars are aligning for the Johnnies to snag the 4th seed in the playoffs.

If my math is correct CarlEton and Olaf are now locks for the playoffs. With a win or tie in the Northfield battle the Carls seal up the second seed. If Olaf wins then they will be #2.

Auggies the only team remaining with an outside shot to sneak into the playoffs. They must beat St Thomas this weekend and get some help from the cobbers with a win over the Johnnies.

KnightRider23

Big win for Carleton today against the Tommies. Back to back to back OT wins for Carleton when they play the Tommies in St. Paul. The Tommies are 3-3-3 in the MIAC?! I know they have the end of season collapse, but not winning 2 out of 3 conference games is god awful, especially with the offensive talent on that team. The Karly win even more crucial with Olaf dropping 3 points to a resilient Augsburg squad.

I've mentioned it multiple times on this thread already, but hats off to GAC on what should be a perfect (MIAC) season. Any knowledge on the last time that happened? Gotta be at least 20-25 years for a perfect regular season in the MIAC...

Carleton and Olaf were locks going into today's matches regardless of what happened in their games. Here are some of the scenarios for the playoff picture:

CAR Win/SJU Win or Draw: CAR = 2 seed; SJU = 3 Seed; STO = 4 seed
CAR Draw/SJU Win or Draw: CAR = 2 Seed; STO = 3 Seed; SJU = 4 seed
CAR Loss/SJU Win or Draw: STO = 2 Seed; CAR = 3 Seed; SJU = 4 seed

If Saint John wins or draws they are in the playoff. A SJU loss and an Augsburg win means Augsburg seals up the 4 seed. Pretty simple.

All eyes will be on the Northfield derby this weekend. Should be an electric encounter...

Last Time GAC had an undefeated season was 1970. Not sure if there were any others around the MIAC since then...

BradleyFan001

Went through the MIAC archives - not sure if they are all correct, but a lot of teams tied one game. Last undefeated season looks like St. Johns in 1986.

Any other insight?
