keeker, how long have you been a CarlEton fan?

Several years ago my niece went to carleton and played girls soccer so got interested in miac in general.
They say miac is strong but not so sure about that. uaa, iiac, and even cciw seem stronger than miac. This year I woudl've picked st olaf to win the whole thing. Them are  quality side that can play decent soccer. Gac, augsburg, St thomas, and carleton are all below Os.

"Looks like another down year for the MIAC"

Looks like another idiotic comment by IdahoSoccer.  Loras fans should stop trolling other threads (MIAC, Messiah, etc.) and try and add something of value to the IIAC thread (almost impossible right?).

The MIAC, like every other season, will be competitive in the top 6-7 teams.

Keeker, the CCIW and IIAC are not as strong as the MIAC.  The IIAC has gotten better the last couple of years but the discrepancy in talent between Loras and the rest of the teams in the league is still pretty big.

Here is my prediction of how the MIAC will end this year.

1. GAC
1. CarlEton
1. St. Olaf
4. Augsburg
5. UST
6. SJU
7. Hamline
8. MAC
9. Bethel
10. SMU

Not trolling just updating.  Loras drops SJU 5-0 without their AA midfielder.

Results from the weekend.

Wheaton beat Augsburg in a close one 1-0.
St. Olaf fell to Luther 3-2 at home.
UST tied UWO 1-1 with Oshkosh giving up their first goal of the season.
SJU got thumped by Loras 0-5.  SJU seems to lay down and die in big games every season so this isn't all that surprising.
MAC pulled off two upsets by beating UWS 2-0 and CSC 1-0 with less than a minute remaining in OT.

Conference games start this week.  Here are my predictions for the Wednesday games.

SJU 1 Hamline 2 --- Hamline have kept a lot of games close and are off to one of their best starts in years. SJU is hit or miss so I give this one to the Pipers.

Bethel 0 St. Olaf 2 --- I am afraid it is going to be another down year for the Beths.

Augsburg 2 SMU 1 --- Augsburg continues their hot start with a win in Winona.

UST 1 MAC 0 --- UST wins a close one at MAC

GAC 1 CarlE 1 ---  This should be a close game (unlike last years regular season match at GAC).  McGarrity is off to a slow start with 0 points through the first three games of this season which extends his pointless streak to 6 games dating back to last years St. Olaf game.  Zach Brown has a goal and an assist in 4 games and didn't play at all last game (injury or pointless to play him against Martin Luther?).  Where are the goals going to come from?  Also, I noticed that the CarlEton keeper that usually starts (Neher) hasn't played the last two games... Injury?

gustiefan04

SJU 1 Hamline 1 --- Hamline takes an early lead but gives up a PK late to give up the extra points.

Bethel 0 St. Olaf 3 --- Ole's should handle Bethel no problem.

Augsburg 3 SMU 1 --- St. Mary's appears to be improving under new coach Pete Watkins, but I doubt they are quite ready to really compete with the teams at the top of the confernece.

UST 1 MAC 0 --- MAC with a couple of surprising wins, maybe the dark horse of the conference race this year? Regardless, I think they drop a close one to the Thommies.

GAC 2 CarlE 1 in OT --- Rematch of last years Conference Finals. Should be an exciting and evenly played match.

A couple of comments earlier about it being a down year for the MIAC seem pretty premature, IMHO. Looking across the North Region, the top 3-4 teams in the MIAC have gotten very similar results against like competition to the top 1-2 teams in the IIAC, WIAC and UMAC. If it is indeed a down year for the MIAC, then it could be argued the entire North Region is in a down year. The "top ranked" teams in the region haven't exactly been trottling the competition.

SJU 2 Hamline 0 --- Should be an easy game for SJU if they're the team I think they are.

Bethel 1 St. Olaf 4 --- Lots of scoring talent on Olaf. They should be a tough test for most teams this year.

Augsburg 2 SMU 0 --- Augsburg is always organized and this shouldn't be that difficult of a game for them.

UST 1 MAC 1 --- Mac is going to get one here based on their results over the weekend. Should be a good atmosphere at MAC that night.

GAC 1 CAR 1 --- Both teams know what to expect. Shame the game is happening early in the season.

gustiefan04

GAC up 2-1 with about 15 min to play over the Carlys; 2 goals by Zach Brown. Have only been tuned in for the 2nd half, but GAC very much controlling possession, stringing several passes together.

BIG Win for the Gusties!

Results from the MIAC yesterday:

SJU 2 Hamline 1
Augsburg 1 SMU 0 OT
St. Olaf 4 Bethel 2
UST 1 MAC 1
GAC 2 CarlEton 1

My initial thoughts on the opening games:

* Teams like Hamline, SMU, Concordia, and Bethel will be less of a pushover than in years past during conference play.
* MAC has snapped out of their funk and should've beaten UST last night.  They could finish as high as fourth if they continue their current form.
* CarlEton is not as good as years past but they will still finish top 3 in the conference.  They need a healthy Ginet as their attack is average without two healthy dangerous options.
* St. Olaf is too weak defensively to win the conference.
* Zach Brown (GAC) will win conference MVP

GG you beat me to it.

Results from last night's MIAC action:

Bethel 2 St. Olaf 4 --- Nice bounceback win for the Oles after the tough Luther loss on Sunday. Skrip, Rosenthal, Nick and Kennnnnnnziiiiiieeeeeee Lund are a dynamic front four for Stolaf and they are firing on all cylinders now.

St. John's 2 Hamline 1 --- Didn't see this coming. But the Johnnies seem pretty enigmatic this year so who knows what to expect. Big game for them versus St. Olaf this weekend.

Gus.Davis 2 carLetOn 1 --- Deserved win for the Gusties, and it should have been more. McGarrity breaks his dry spell, but the Knights' worrying trend of giving up goals immediately after they score needs to stop if they want to be contending for a MIAC title. First goal was an absolute peach by Zach Brown, but his second goal was down to some pretty awful defending from a short corner. Carleton lost the first game last season versus the Johnnies only to go undefeated the rest of the MIAC season...will it happen again?

Doggies 1 St. Mary's 0 (2 OT) -- Another close result that surprised me. The Cards played Augsburg pretty evenly throughout the course of the match, but if you give Holker's men enough set pieces throughout the game they'll capitalize. Henry is a beast in the air. Glad to see they got their Gilmer replacement.

Tommies 1 Mac 1 (2 OT) -- Exciting game with both sides having chances in the 2nd half and especially during the OT periods to put the game away. St. Thomas' attack looked solid but they are going to have to shore up the backline if they want to be at the top of the table come early November. Credit to the Scots, who have recovered from an ugly 0-3 start and have rebounded well against good regional opponents. Schembri-Wismayer is legit in that Mac midfield.

GarbageGoals33

+1 karma to you KnightRider for putting up with my anti-CarlEton rants for the past 4-5 years and giving an unbiased opinion on the GAC/Car game as well as some insight on other games in the conference.

A CarlE poster with something to say besides "WE R GUD", excellent!

KnightRider23

It's 'good' GG, not 'gud'  ;)

All stupid jokes aside, I didn't think GAC completely outplayed Carleton, but they played well enough to win. You're right about the level of competition in the league tho. I could easily see a situation like last year where there are two, three, even four teams fighting for one or two playoff spots come late October. I'm sure Traitor Joe and the Knights will be in the mix by then, and if so, you might as well start engraving that 2013 MIAC Championship trophy.

CarlEton's record in the MIAC playoffs = 4-4-2 (W-L-D)

CarlEton's record in the MIAC championship = 0-2-2
* Advancing once on penalties vs. Augsburg 2008

:-\

BradleyFan001

I think KnightRider was talking about regular season championships which Carleton has been dominating for the past 5-6 years. Sure they're playoff runs haven't been anything to brag about but you can't take the championships away from them.

Looking forward to this weekend:

Mac  1 Hamline 0

Olaf 1 SJU 2 - Upset here. Is St.Johns still playing on their football field?

Augs 3 Bethel 0 - Should be another win for Augsburg

SMU 0 CAR 2 - Time for the knights to get back on track

CC 0 GAC 2 - Riding the wave of the victory in Northfield.
