Congrats gustiefan.  That was a tight one.  And that was a great pass and goal to end a game on.

BradleyFan001

That was an ugly one for the knights. Two years in a row with early exits.

Good luck to GAC. they should be able to take care of business tomorrow

gustiefan04

Not the result I was expecting from the CarlE's. Disappointing. Hopefully GAC can fair better against Westminster that the knights. A trip to the sweet 16 would sure be nice.

Surprised but not surprised. Carlton so disappointing... Totally out muscled and hustled by a team that's barely better than my girls u10 AYSo team. Who coaches carleton clowns... I told you clowns not to let 4 left feet play center mids. and since when mcgrity play midfield? oh wait, he just has no clue how to play fw. Watch zach tomorrow buddy and learn. outside mids don't know how to play outside mids and a play maker that has 4 reverse and 1 sideway moves... how did you win so many games? Oh yeah, cornells and northwestern types... soooo disappointing. I shook my head in disgust. absolutely shameful. Waste of trip to petersburg. Miac champs my as$. Well at least Gustavus will redeem for Miac tomorrow. Gusties 4-0 and ZB with a hat trick.

I get the rage Keeker, but most of what you're saying is ridiculous. Let's break it down:

McGarrity doesn't know how to play forward:

Let's just overlook the fact that he's second in MIAC scoring (above ZB). Sure he's scored against some not so great teams, but he has goals against GAC, Olaf, Luther, Mac, and a two-assist game against Augsburg just to highlight some of the bigger games. Zach Brown is a great forward, and he deserves his MIAC POY award, but to say that ZB is model for all forwards is misguided at best. (And from what it looked like yesterday, Brown might not even play in today's game since he didn't come back for the CSS second half).

And really...you're just gonna say that you get to 15-3-3 by playing the Cornell's and Northwestern types? Just do some research and Carleton's SOS is one of the stronger ones in the North region, even above GAC's SOS (.586 vs .578). I don't hear anyone saying that GAC played joke teams to get here, and the reason why is because it's NOT TRUE. GAC lost when it mattered in the conference semis, but it was down to a bad performance, not them coasting through the season on bad teams. But any time Carleton loses it seems that the team is bad and that they have no talent??? You must have some bad luck watching Carleton, cause all we hear from you is just how eternally bad they are/will be.

Neglect the MIAC titles and/or playoff champs for 6 out of the 7 seasons too, cause no bad team could ever do that right?

gustiefan04

GAC down 1-0.

Playing without Zach Brown, rib injury and Sean Sendlebach, head injury. 2 First Team All-MIAC players...

Hope we can pick it up here and get an equalizer.

Forget this game. Could somebody post some vid of that U 10 AYSO side?

1-0 Final. Congrats to Westminster. Probably the last team anyone expected to advance from this group...

Gac played poorly the last couple weeks of the season. Uninspiring play all weekend. I will send a more detailed recap tomorrow when I'm not typing on an iPad. Awful stuff though. Congrats to Westminster, their keeper played flawless today when called upon. These MIAC teams have shown almost no grit in the ncaa tournament the past handful of years. Loras will crush in the sweet 16. Another very poor showing for the miac. It might be that time for me to hang up the message board boots after the past two seasons of excellent regular seasons followed up by a "we are just happy to be here" mentality in one and done games.

I enjoy reading these boards and what people have to say about the action on the pitch. This comment, though, is out of bounds (although one has to wonder your state at 2 a.m.).

Should I be writing the same stuff about the Gustavus coaching staff now after that tough 1-0 loss? Hardly - GAC went undefeated in conference (no small feat) and just didn't have their best today + ran into a hot keeper, just like Carleton yesterday. No need to resort to cutting the other team down and disrespecting the coaching staff or players. Totally uncalled for and thoroughly disgusting, and certainly not indicative of the Gustavus fan base.

Carleton was the MIAC Playoff champ - the Knights EARNED that title last week. Should we sully GAC's unblemished MIAC slate just because they lost to supposed lesser foe, on home ground no less (oh, and I'm sure you'll trot out the injury excuses here)? Well, if healthy they were four goals better than WC, at the very least they could have gutted out a 1-0 or 2-0 decision.

Maybe we should set up a match with your girls u10 AYSo and WC, just to make sure.

Haters gonna hate, as the kids say...

Keeker isn't a Gustavus fan, he just trolls CarlEton non stop. I wouldn't put a whole lot of weight into what he has to say. I suppose you've just run across his last message and assumed he was a gac fan which is unfortunate. As for Carlie's... It's great that they've done so well in conference play the last few years but they have truly been poor in their showings in the ncaa tournament, as has all of the miac for the last 5 seasons.

To say that injuries didn't play a factor in today's game would be an understatement. As for the GAC coaching staff, I wouldn't want another coach in the conference running my team. Funny for a SID to jump on the board and do their own trolling assuming that keeker is a GAC fan though. This is a message board where people throw out some decent game recaps or team analysis and then there are people like keeker or cowlingluvr (and the carletonsid for that matter) that find an opportune time to chime in and take a cheep shot or be a smart ass.  If you take a shot at a team and you are a regular contributor with a little bit of knowledge so be it, you may eat crow time to time (but you're still there to take it). Why not contribute more carlEtonsid instead of jump on the message board late with the why is everyone picking on me mentality?

Westminster coach is less than half the age of carleton and gac head coaches.
You guys know why some d3 schools give head coaching jobs to someone barely old enough to
drink legally? And you guys know what it takes to take a team of crappy players that you didnt recruit to beat two "power house" teams from the mighty miac
on consecutive days? Just cause you say lad in every other sentence doesnt mean you know soccer. I was wrong, I admit.
I thought the gusties would learn from the carls. Completely and thouroughly out coached.  hats off to andrew and the blue jays.

GG - My bad lumping keeker in with the Gustie camp. Also, I'm the former CarletonSID, just so everyone is clear on identity.  :P

Keep up the insightful analysis, GG - I don't know a lot about soccer (hence by propensity to lurk here - know more about hoops) so I rely on the rest of you to break it down for us fans who just enjoy watching our teams compete.

I do know a decent amount about good coaching, and I think both the GAC and Carleton faithful are very happy with their respective coaches and results. I know both teams wanted desperately to make amends for last year's NCAA showing, and perhaps that's the reason they didn't play very well this past weekend--wanting it too much can lead to less-than-peak performances. For me, at least, if the worst worry about our men's soccer program is that they've not advanced in the NCAA Tourney, that's a pretty good problem to have.

Good luck to WC moving forward.

Westminister outhustled both MIAC teams. Look how many 50-50s that they beat GAC to.

I don't see the number of games the regulars here apparently do, but GAC didn't seem to show any sense of urgency until they were behind in either game. Almost arrogant in the way they stuck with their style and didn't take what Westminster was giving them. They also seem to be bothered when they got nicked on physical confrontations.
