I admit, I was the lone rep giving Linfield a first-place vote the first few weeks. I think I told myself that even if Linfield lost a close game to MHB, I would still consider them the top team in the West. Then 66-27 happened and I had to rethink that.

I understand what the score was, but I seriously doubt that MHB was that much better than what the score indicates. With that being said, I dropped them from 1 to 4...just ahead of St. John's. I think d3football's poll was a little excessive dropping them from 3rd to 9th.

My top 5 West teams
St. Thomas
UWW
UWO
Linfield
St. John's

If St. John's loses a close game next week to St. Thomas, I'll probably move them up in the rankings at least past Linfield. But if St. Thomas blows out St. John's (which I think is more likely to happen) I'll consider my rankings somewhat ahead of the curve then  ;D
So no chance of St.John's winning? Think alot of people are sleeping on this team, I think they have a good chance of upsetting St.Thomas and showing the nation how good they really are.

Do they have a chance? Yes.

But I think we all can agree St. Thomas is favorites going into this game. I think Mr. Mom (OAC Pickems) set the line at -14.5, and AO set the MIAC line at -13.5.

A lot to consider this week. Looking forward on the next poll.

Interesting that St. Thomas lost a first place vote after knocking off it's rival (on the road) by 12. Maybe UWW winning by 14 against the NAIA's #2 team had something to do with that? I don't know....

HansenRatings

Almost as interesting to me that St. John's dropped two spots. They lost a close game to a team ranked ahead of them. The game was played at pretty much the level of competition expected from teams with their rankings, unless other voters thought St. John's should have played UST closer?

True. I kept my top 10 the exact same as last week, even though St. John's lost. I've had St. John's at 6 since the preseason poll.

doolittledog

St Johns losing to St. Thomas seemed like a better loss than Linfield losing to UMHB.  Somewhat surprised those two schools aren't flipped in the rankings.
Coach Finstock - "There are three rules that I live by: never get less than twelve hours sleep; never play cards with a guy who has the same first name as a city; and never get involved with a woman with a tattoo of a dagger on her body. Now you stick to that and everything else is cream cheese."

I did too, but for swapping out Dubuque for Coe @ #10. I really don't know what to make of the IIAC yet. Central and Dubuque probably have the best wins, but Coe is blowing people out, and Wartburg is still Wartburg. I'll be in Vegas this weekend with a bunch of Wartburg & Simpson grads, so maybe I'll be able to convince them to stream some IIAC games while we're at the pool. Central/UD & Wartburg/Coe is a good weekend of football in Iowa.

Hope to get the poll out later today...still waiting on one more ballot.

I know the anticipation is just killing everyone!  ;D

Looks like that quality win over UWP game UWW an addition first-place vote.

Also, we have a lot of common ground on who our top 10 should be, as there's only 2 teams receiving other votes this week. With Central dropping out it appears many of Central's votes went to Coe after their win over Wartburg (sorry wartknight  :-\ ). Coe made the biggest jump from Receiving Votes (3) last week to 10th in the poll (9) this week.....leap frogging over CMS and Whitworth.

Some big games next week as our #1 hosts #3, and #9 hosts #4. If UWSP and UWO pull out the win (which is very possible) we'll probably see a big shake up.

HansenRatings

I was the voter who pulled the switch on UWW over St. Thomas. It wasn't so much the one quality win over UWP, but a bit of a culmination of their performances so far, and not having much opportunity outside of the St. John's game to evaluate the Tommies. It's really close between St. Thomas/UWW for me right now, and I could see myself flip-flopping them throughout the rest of the season if they remain undefeated, and St. Thomas keeps beating everyone by 40.
