Wow, no love for Bethel at all, while Simpson gets a vote?

Yeah, a little unexpected, but I'll let the people involved in those votes explain.....if they feel inclined.

For me, until they beat the Johnnies in their schedule in week 5, or other teams already in this poll lose two games, I probably won't be giving any love to my alma mater. It's just way too early in my opinion.

True, but I get his point though. Bethel loses its only vote to Simpson, even though Bethel just beat Simpson. That seems odd in a vacuum, but I'm sure the voters had other teams in mind when adding Simpson and dropping Bethel.

All legit points.  Did not even consider Bethel and I should have.  I'll own that.

It's so early in the year and so much is unknown/unproven, votes for nine and ten can seem a little bit like banging your head against a brick wall.

This makes a little more sense to me than the D3 Top 25 and the Top 25 Fan Poll which have Linfield ahead of Oshkosh now. Perhaps forward looking expectations have an impact there, but Linfield's loss to a not-great NAIA team certainly looks worse than Oshkosh losing to a D2 team (regardless of the newness of the program, it's still a division above D3).

emphasis on "a little more sense" Since Monmouth beat Wartburg but still finds themselves ranked below them (in this poll).

Same sort of thing in the D3 Top 25 poll. Even though both were unranked this week, Wartburg had 44 points while Monmouth only had 9.

Regarding this poll, believe it or not, only two voters had Wartburg above Monmouth. So the vast majority here took the head-to-head matchup into consideration. The one who ranked Wartburg 4th carried a lot of weight in the total points, putting them ahead of Monmouth by one point.

USee

Hmmm. Interesting results. In addition to the Linfield ranking, I would love to hear reasons folks ranked Wartburg above Monmouth and why a team like Redlands, who have won 2 games including one they were not favored in, would drop out of the poll.

jamtod

Head to head results do not appear in a vaccuum though. Monmouth also has a fairly sizable loss to Wheaton (yes, a good team) on it's resume.

I had Redlands 10, Wartburg 2 and Monmouth unranked last week. With Monmouth's win over Wartburg, I thought that was deserving of ranking Monmouth over Wartburg (even with the Wheaton loss), but I still think Wartburg belonged in the top 10. So I put Monmouth 7 and Wartburg 8. With Monmouth now entering my top 10 that means one team had to drop out. Since Redlands was my number 10 last week, they were the odd team out.

Monmouth's big loss at #18 Wheaton with an impressive win over #13 Wartburg stood out to me more than Redlands two wins over unranked George Fox and unranked Puget Sound.

I also had CMH 8 last week, and with the loss to UWW I dropped them to 9. I still think of CMH is a top 10 West team.

Like I said in the previous post, only two people had Wartburg above Monmouth. I'll let them explain if they want too.

smedindy

I didn't have either Monmouth, Redlands, nor Wartburg in this week's poll.

SpartanHouse

To put a little context on the Wheaton Game. Monmouth had 3 OL out and returned one last week vs Wartburg and switched things around up front. Monmouth vs Wartburg was a better showing of what this team really is.

Monmouth still wouldn't have beaten Wheaton if fully healthy however.

Hoping to post this week's poll later today. Still waiting on one more entry.
