8 points for UWL is the lowest point total we've had on the season for a team to make the top 10.

I interpret that to mean, things are getting clarified within the region, yes?

Absolutely. During the first few weeks votes are always all over the board. Now with a few weeks left there's much more clarity.

So central could finish on one loss if the win out and beat Wartburg. And Gustavus could finish with two losses if they win out and beat St Thomas. Those are the only two outsiders looking to get in I think. Maybe if whitworth beats linfield.

And the only insiders still to play are BU v UST and UWW v UWL, right?  Just a few games left to shake things up (outside the massive upset of course).

UWO is in the same boat as Gustavus. They have two losses (Salisbury and UWL) but still have big games against UWW and UWP. Small chance, but if they win out they can creep back in the top 10.

Ah, I missed UWO. One more. So four teams with a chance to get back in if they run hit through the end of the year.  I reckon GAC has the best chance, although all their chances are pretty slim.  Gustavus play UST sandwiched between St Olaf which will (hopefully ;) ) be a spite-filled grudge match and Bethel which will be (if UST win all) a game for all the pool c marbles. UST could easily look past Gustavus.

So far in the WIAC we have UWP beating UWL, UWL beating UWO and UWO beating UWP. So after UWW, it's a coin flip on who should - arguably - be #2 in this conference. UWO has one fewer conference loss than UWL and UWP, but that's mainly because they still haven't played UWW yet.

In this week's poll, I had no 2 loss teams on the ballot, which meant going deep into the non-power conferences to find teams that will probably win their conference, but most likely not get past the second round in the play-offs.

One of the better weekends for top games in the West coming up:

Under the "playoffs start now" category:

Gustavus travels to UST.  Playoff hopes for both are faint, but the loser here is certainly eliminated.  UST hasn't had 3 regular season losses since 2008, while GAC hasn't had an 8 win season since 1999.
Linfield travels to Whitworth.  Pool A is on the line here, while the loser will likely be buried deep in Pool C consideration
Wartburg travels to Central.  These two looked neck and neck for most of the season, but then Central stumbled against Dubuque back in mid October.  Winner here is in driver's seat for Pool A.  Loser falls to Pool C consideration

As for how the WIAC will shake out, all the teams in consideration for the WIAC championship and Pool C consideration are all at home, and hosting the bottom half of the conference.  But given how this year has been going, anything is possible.

For Pool A ramifications, Lake Forest hosts St Norbert

Huge shakeup from last week. Number of RV teams doubled, and not one team stood pat from where they were in the previous week.

Bethel had the same exact number of votes (64) as last week but fell a spot as Wartburg gained 8 votes.

Fun times  ;D

I can't argue with Wartburg jumping Bethel. I might have waited a week until after they'd played the Dutch, but they are unbeaten and top of the standings in a good league.

Total head scratcher whoever put SJU at #7 in the West. First, the Cobbers view SJU as their biggest rival, a true throw out the records game. Second, the Cobbers played UWL and UWW very competitively, they are a very solid team despite their record. No way IMO are there 6 teams in the West (probably not in the country tbh) that are better than SJU. The only team I'd favor over SJU would be UWW.

Don't look now, but Lake Forest and Martin Luther just popped over the hill and are in the rearview mirror.  ;D

I like C-M a lot. But the fact is they were a 2-5 team that SJU lost to. I didn't put SJU at #7 but they dang sure deserve a greater consequence than falling a single spot after losing to a 2-5 team, rival or not.
