I think the Johnnies put up over 80 points with the back up QB starting

Can anybody explain what the NCAA is doing with this six region idea?    48 regional teams, but 32 playoff teams?

What is the point of six regions?     Are the playoff teams determined regardless of six regional rankings?

In short, increase the number of east and north teams with access to the playoffs.  This was farcically obvious when the West was stacked with ASC and carried 25% more teams than any other region. With the "only the top team can be considered at any time" method along with a decrease in the number of regionally ranked teams as well as the resulting difficulty in playing RR opponents, it guaranteed the west would never get three pool c bids and would find getting two difficult.  That was it. Open the east and north to the payoffs.

Moving the asc out, though, pretty much addresses that fudge and I expect the playoffs to be almost exactly like they have always been.

The issue that the NCAA faces with D3 is that there are five or six programs which are championship geared organisations. The investment, coaching, recruiting, etc needed to consistently create championship caliber squads.  There are another seven or eight programs who are in the “in a special year we can do it all” category. And then there’s daylight to everyone else.  Pool c always goes to those 14 or 15 programs, the ones that missed their AQ,  and a couple national champs have come out of there.

The gap between the wants and the want nots is big and getting bigger.  It sparked a mighty kerfuffle in the MIAC and I would be surprised if that same kerfuffle doesn’t raise it head again on a national level.

EDIT: Of course, making it even more difficult, about 65% (from my guess) of those teams are in the West or Texas.  And the others are midwestern.  Geographically the programs committed to high performance all are near each other, which puts a natural imbalance into any geography-based clustering.

It seems to me that the polls tend to favor East coast teams?  Perhaps I am wrong.

Ice Bear likes this explanation...and the use of the "kerfuffle" even more.

Considering most of d3 football programs are located out East, I would think a large chunk of the voters are from out there as well.I having nothing to back that up, it just seems likely.

However, I think the D3 top 25 has been pretty fair for the most part.

Thanks, OzJohnnie.   Your conclusion is what I have been thinking.

We should have four regions, each with about the same number of teams.    And the strong and weak teams should be distributed among the four.    The West is always loaded.    Why should we always have to beat each other to reach the semi-finals?

Initial reaction: Looks like the panel recognized the close-game quality loss UWL had at UWW. Despite of the loss, the Eagles gained 7 points and moved up two spots in the poll. However, the margin is very slim....as the 4-6 spots are separated by just 3 points.

Looking to release one more poll for the year. Waiting on a few more entries.

I think starting next year, I'll transition this to just a Region 6 poll (rather than the West poll). Then if others want to run another region fan poll, they can go right ahead.

Got a late start this year. Let me know if anyone is interested in joining. I'll probably transition to a Region 6 poll this year (since the West Region is technically obsolete).

Thanks

Two spots available if anyone wants in!
