QuoteBut, for the record, UW-W contacted North Central about playing week 2 before the Mary Hardin-Baylor game was set and they had no interest in playing us. None of this is about the point I was making, though. I was not criticizing NCC or Mount Union for how they schedule. Heck, it will probably help them get a #1 seed.  I was just saying based on their competition, right now we couldn't possibly know how if they are good enough to put a semi-final ceiling on UW-W or Mary Hardin-Baylor. In NCC's case, we now have more data with a nice win in the battle for the Little Brass Bell.

Had North Central already scheduled Wabash though? Wabash does schedule in advance and may have snagged North Central quickly.

My understanding is UW-W reached out to NCC well before that game was scheduled. My further understanding is that NCC doesn't feel like it is in the best interest of their program to schedule UW-W.  I'm guessing the honest one word answer to the question as to why would be "Wheaton".  Honestly, going out a couple of years, I think it might be more likely to see a Mount Union/UW-W home and home than it will be to see a NCC or Wheaton/UW-W home and home.  It drives me a little crazy because of the close proximity.  But it's hard to knock schools for thinking that way given that the likelihood of a Pool C bid with two losses is shaky at best.

Except for this year, Wheaton's always scheduled some scrubs in non-conference. Last year was Northwestern (MN). There are other good teams out there in Region 5 and 6 (and 4) that could offer stout tests for UW-W. Wartburg? DePauw? Bethel?

The Bear says, IIBHO, LaCrosse, the Johnnies, and the Royals beat Linfield. Ice feels Linfield is too high.

Could very well be true. But Linfield is the only undefeated team among them.

Yes, I know they haven't played anyone yet.

Carlton?  Really??  Who have they beaten?  I am impressed that this program is undefeated, considering they historically have been one of the weakest teams in MIAC.  But we will see when they play Bethel, Gustavus and St. John's.  My bet is P-P will smash them next year if they play (as was mentioned on SCIAC/NWC Boards).

Ice thinks this is a solid poll (and he's referring to the rankings so get your ****ing heads out of the gutter!). Ice says Bethel aslo bests Linfield with Roste. However, he feels with the 1 loss it would be a hard argument to put the Royals ahead of Linfield. Ice is was watching the Whitworth score last week and it seemed to Ice that the Wildkittens handled the rrrrrrrrr's pretty easily. Ice wishes the Wildkittens luck and no injuries the rest of the way. He hopes to view a bit of the Pacific game Saturday and will also the Pacific Lutheran game next week.

I mean, we're talking about a separation of one point between Carleton and P-P. They're pretty much even, and a case can be made for either team.

As far as strength of schedule, Carleton does have the better Opponent Win% (.524 vs. 421), and they've been blowing out everyone they've played so far. D3football ranks Carleton's SOS at 122nd compared to P-P's 140. I might have put P-P above Carleton if Carleton was squeaking out victories against the opposition. But their games haven't been close at all.

I don't think it's that far fetched.

Wait until they play a good team like I mentioned above.

Not sure what that changes, because there's no question Carleton has multiple losses coming their way. Just like P-P would lose in the same fashion if they had to play teams in the top half of the MIAC.

In the end P-P could very well be ranked ahead of them. I'm just saying, based on the body of work as of today, I can understand why people would pick Carleton over P-P through 6 weeks into the season.

1. Better record
2. Better SOS (d3football.com)
3. Better Opp Win %
4. Larger average margin of victory

Carleton will not face Bethel unless they manage to beat Concordia, Gustavus, and SJU.  It's great to see them doing well, but I see them going 0-3 with that bunch.

Yeah, maybe Carleton hasn't played the greatest competition thus far, but they looked surprisingly good against my Oles this past Saturday. They are clearly trending towards being serious competitors in the MIAC. It will be fun to watch them take care of business against P.P. next year assuming that game ends up happening. As for the remainder of Carleton's season, who knows. They beat Concordia last year. They probably lose 3 games, but it wouldn't shock me to see them surprise some people down the stretch.
We come from St. Olaf, we sure are the real stuff.
Our team is the cream of the colleges great.
We fight fast and furious, our team is injurious.
Tonight Carleton College will sure meet its fate.

To be honest, I'd favor Concordia too, but they did beat them last year so it wouldn't be shocking to see them pull out the win and head into Gustavus 7-0.

We'll see, Doolittle. Carleton certainly loses a ton of key players after this fall, but I still don't think they'll get smashed.
