I think it's really interesting to see UWW w 8 first place votes given their loss to St. John's. It sure speaks to the impressive objectivity of the voters.
I tend to think if I were a voter I'd have UWW one spot below St. John's, and likely both behind Bethel.

Thank-you Emma - exactly how I have them on my ballot.

Since SJU lost to bethel, I had Linfield as my #1 team...kind of by default. And I had kept them in my top spot up until last week. that was until UWW beat Oshkosh, and the Warhawks resume became too impressive for me to ignore. So I put them #1 this week for the first time since week 1.

The Beth>SJU>UWW h2h trail makes since. But IMO, if you continue down that road and include UWP, H-S and MHB then that h2h trail just loops back upon itself. So it's tough to say who exactly is better than who. It may have much more to do with who played who at just the right time. UWP got lucky with bethel's QB out, but then UWP's QB was out as well. SJU may have caught a break catching UWW flat early in the season with so many new starters in that week 1 matchup.

Lots of ways to interpret the way the season has gone so far. Kind of glad we have multiple people selecting different #1 teams. It makes it interesting.

I don't have any dog in the hunt. Before today, I thought Whitewater was better, even though St. John's beat them and Bethel beat St. John's. Bethel had a blemish too, vs. Platteville, who was reeling.

Reeling no more!

Ok, now what?!?!?!? And not just at the top, where Whitewater loses to a 2-loss (in D3 team) that were trounced in their two losses.

Gustavus gets its third loss
Carleton gets its first loss
Stout loses its 3rd
PLU got destroyed

Platteville will move up - how high?

LAX #1 or St. John's, or Bethel, or Linfield?

Now where? You east Rockies are a tough audience - every year.
Simply move LINFIELD up 4 or 6 places.

Doc I'm no pollster and it hurts to say it- but I agree with you.
Thankfully there are playoffs.

And 3 more wins the NCAA would be extra loopy not to award LINFIELD 3 or more home games. Long trip but Oshkosh, St, Thomas, UWW, St. Johns pulled it off.

Maybe, but the votes are in the midwest.   And last year's win over St. John's is long forgotten.

I hope we start scheduling a game every year with a tough Wisconsin or Minnesota team.

Also, this is a fan poll which has zero bearing on anything.  Chill.  ;)

It may be a fan poll, but we take our voting quite seriously  :)

Dang, this week'll be fun.  The cool part about the WIAC is you get ton of meaningful games and use them to figure our order and logic.  Until you can't.

Meanwhile, Linfield just keeps taking care of business out West.

Have our hands full next Saturday.  We'll see...

Ice Bear

Ice Bear feels after the craziness that was yesterday combined with some good football teams beating the **** out of each other, he will be more understanding of the Wildkittens getting the nod at #1 in the fan poll. While Ice still believes Linfield has not done anything to show they are the top team in this region this year, he believes they haven't done anything to not show they are #1 (at this point). They are undefeated, and they have taken care of any business that has been put in front of them. All this, combined with their history, in Ice's mind, warrants that #1 ranking. A ranking that will most definitely be under the microscope come playoff time (assuming the Kittens win out).

I was surprised to see PLU at 4-2. Bethel (without Roste for all but 3 plays) dismantled them in the opener. The result Saturday confirmed that there's just a chasm between Linfield and the rest of the West Coast teams. We won't know till the playoffs how that compares to the rest of the West. Obviously Linfield typically acquits itself very well come Nov/Dec, but I'm not convinced if you dropped them into the WIAC or MIAC that they are unblemished at this point either. Give them SJU, UWW, or UWP's schedule and if they were unbeaten they'd be a lock for a 1 seed and ranked #1 in the polls.

Scheduling as an island school is tough, but I don't know that I think Linfield (or Wartburg for that matter) are necessarily the best teams in the old West Region . Neither have played a Top 10/15 opponent. Whereas UWW, UWP, UWRF, SJU, Bethel, GAC, UWL all have at least one or multiple games against the top of the old west and new region, and top teams in the nation.
