Saturday was a Cardinal day here in the North Country for the magicman.

1. The Arizona Cardinals won their playoff game and I was rooting hard that they would do so. Larry Fitzgerald and Carson Palmer are classy guys and I actually hope they win a Superbowl. Plus I'm kinda partial to Redbirds. :D

2. The St. John Fisher Cardinals won their game against Ithaca and their best player, Keegan Ryan, is from my hometown so obviously I want him and them to do well. Fisher is 5-0 in their conference and tied for 1st place. I also have Keegan Ryan on my NCAA Futures Fantasy team so I need them to make the tournament.  With an 11-3 overall record they are still in line to get a Pool C bid should they lose in the Empire 8 tournament.

3. Last, but far from least, my Plattsburgh State Cardinals defeated defending conference champions, Oswego State on Friday and topped off the weekend by defeating Cortland State on Saturday, to continue to keep sole possession of first place in the SUNYAC conference, with a 6-0 record. At 11-2 overall they also remain in good shape for a Pool C bid should they fail to grab the automatic entry.

So yeah I was viewing the entire weekend through rose colored glasses. ;D

Scores for this weeks games

Wednesday, January 13:
Plymouth State 70  @ UMass-Boston 59
Eastern Connecticut  80  @ UMass-Dartmouth 72
Western Connecticut 89  @ Keene State 80
Southern Maine 60 @ RI College 58

Saturday, January 18:
UMass-Dartmouth 91 (2-3) @ Southern Maine 90 (2-3) 3 PM
Western Connecticut 78 (4-1) @ Plymouth State 75 (3-2) 3 PM
RI College 64 (1-4) @ Keene State 71 (2-3) 3 PM
UMass-Boston 57 (1-4) @ Eastern Connecticut 75 (5-0) 3 PM

Bonus #1 Winner is more teams with 3 losses=3, over only 1 team with 3 wins

Bonus #2 Winner is Rhode Island with 58 + 64 =122.   Mass Boston had 59 +57 =116

Bonus #3  TBD....but Saturday had 10 touchdowns scored and that's looking pretty good.
Update: Sunday was looking like a winner after the Panthers had 4 TD's in the first half alone. Fortunately they called it a game at halftime but when Seattle scored 3 times in the 2nd half to get Sunday's total to 7 TD's, I'd have bet the farm that there would be at least 3 TD's in the Bronco's-Steelers game. When they each scored one to bring  Sunday's total  to 9, I was waiting for the meaningless TD by the Steelers to give Sunday the win. Needing 2 scores to have any hope, the Steelers wisely choose to kick the field goal with only 19 seconds to go.

Bonus #3 Winner is:  Which day will have more TOUCHDOWNS recorded in the NFL divisional round: Saturday (Chiefs @ Patriots, Packers @ Cardinals) vs. Sunday or tie (Seahawks @ Panthers, Steelers @ Broncos).   Field Goals and safeties ARE NOT included in this bonus.

Week 8 Schedule:

Monday, January 18:

Keene State (9-5) @ Trinity (CT) (11-4) 7 PM,  I'll get the rest of the schedule and last week's results up later.

Wednesday, January 20:
Western Connecticut (10-5, 4-1)@ Eastern Connecticut (11-5, 5-0) 7:30 PM
UMass-Dartmouth (9-6, 2-3) @ RI College (2-13, 1-4)7:30 PM
Plymouth State (12-4, 3-2) @ Keene State (9-6, 2-3) 7:30 PM
Southern Maine (8-7, 2-3) @ UMass-Boston (5-10, 1-4) 7:30 PM

Saturday, January 23:
Keene State (10-6, 3-3) @ UMass-Dartmouth (10-6, 3-3) 3 PM- Note: Changed to 2 PM
UMass-Boston (5-11, 1-5) @ Western Connecticut (10-6, 4-2) 3 PM
Plymouth State (12-5, 3-3) @ RI College (2-14, 1-5) 3 PM
Eastern Connecticut (12-5, 6-0) @ Southern Maine (9-7, 3-3) 3 PM

Bonus 1 (locks at 7:30 PM Wednesday): Which day will the 4 winning teams have more combined points scored?  Wednesday or Saturday.  These are the 4 scores from ONLY the winning teams (so if a losing team has a score higher then one of the 4 winners that will NOT be included in the total).  If the 4 winners on Wednesday score 86, 75, 69 & 56 while the Saturday winners score 76, 73, 68 & 67 the Wednesday winners (and Wednesday pickers) would win by a 286-284 score.
Bonus 2 (locks at 3 PM Sunday): What will be the Super Bowl Matchup? New England/Carolina or Any Other Combination (AOC will include New England/Arizona, Denver/Arizona or Denver/Carolina).
Bonus 3 (locks at 3 PM Saturday: Note locks at 2 PM Saturday): What will be the higher weekend total?  Combined 3 pointers made from the 4 WINNING LEC teams on Saturday or the number of points the LOSER scores in the Carolina/Arizona game.  Once again, like bonus #1, only the winners count for this total, so if a team that won hit 0 three pointers while the team that lost hit 10, sorry the 10 won't count towards the total!  As an example: the 4 winning LEC teams on Saturday hit 1, 2, 4 & 7 three pointers while the Carolina/Arizona game ends 24-17, the number of points the loser in the football game scored would win by a 17-14 count.

I'm trying to have some fun with the bonus picks since I know probably everyone will be watching the football games on Sunday, and can watch them with added incentive to boot! but if they are too confusing (me being a homer since I came up with them think they are perfectly fine  ;D) let me know and I'll tone them down for next week.

Warriotcat is looking to pick up a point on the full field - but I suspect (and hope) he will lose one instead!

You are seeing through me.  It is worth a shot.

Still trying to figure out WPI's change of loyalty...to Trinity.  Clever poster he is.
Me, will be watching the Amherst vs Wesleyan game in Middletown.  The matchup does not count as a conference game....Amherst won the important one earlier at home.  Still it is for bragging rights and the Little Three title chase.

Coach Cain will keep Keene playing hard but I do not like this trip to Hartford for them.

I will be back on their bandwagon soon.

I saw Trinity play live and in person when they came to Plattsburgh a couple of weeks ago. Two very good bigs along with several good guards. We were able to come from 8 points down, with 10 minutes to play, to win by an 81-73 final score. I think they will be too much for Keene too handle tonight.

As predicted the Trinity Bantams were just too much for Keene State tonight. Final score was Trinity 83 Keene State 65.
