I cannot wait for Messiah to kick off the season strong this year. I just don't know if there will ever be another Josh Kremers in the left back position. His quickness, strength, and passion for the game goes without saying, best that I have ever seen in Messiah Soccer history. I hope they can eventually fill that void. Obviously......that's easier said than done. No doubt with my falcons be a force to reckon with. I just hope that another Joshua Kremers comes around sooner rather than later.

Ahh a new Messiah supporter. One question I have that all Messiah supporters have either ignored or pretended did not happen is what is the background of why Danny Brandt wanted OUT of Messiah? Was there a falling out? Did he have as big an ego as his father and think he was better than Messiah? I would appreciate any feedback

I certainly have no inside information but perhaps this is not a big deal but just a young man trying to distance himself from his father's very long shadow.  Seems sort of healthy to me.  As for the over sized ego question, well that is an issue we all have to deal with I guess.

Maybe the original "couldn't handle the defeat at the hands of Tufts" is the answer.

Wow. A well thought out and polite response to a troll question. What are you doing on a message board?  +k

Nice to see the Kremers' fan club is alive and well!  Kremers was good, but I'm also content with Bryant Meyer in the left back position this year if that's where McCarty decides to use him again.  He scored 3 goals and had 3 assists while being a part of a defense that posted a 0.30 GAA and 18 shutouts.  Being a central midfielder before being moved to leftback as a junior to fill the void left by Kremers graduation, he was a different player than Kremers which is reflected in his offensive numbers. But it didn't cost the Falcons defensively as they cut their GAA in almost half from the year before with a significant jump in shutouts.

Replacing Jack Thompson, Jeremy Payne, Ramirez, and Robbins are much bigger question marks this year. It's certainly going to be interesting to see what kind of start to the season the Falcons have and how the line-up shakes out (and how long that process takes).  My impression is that McCarty has tended to settle on a line-up quicker and tinker less throughout the season than did Brandt, but he's probably never had so many question marks and so many big shoes to fill as he does this year. Probably the biggest test of his tenure. It's been a while since the Falcon's have been this vulnerable going into this season. Hard to imagine them being a Top 10 team out of the gate.  Top 25, sure.

Why would any Messiah supporter with inside info on this make public on this message board what is private? Regardless of whether the truth is something boring and no big deal or something "jucier", they should (a) respect that it's not really for them to decide to share that info with the world, and (b) not feel the need to boast their ego by being able to give the "inside scoop".  Am I curious as a Messiah fan?  Sure.  But I respect that it might not be something that's meant for me to know.

Flying Weasel - Very well said.  I agree 100%!

Ah...I needed that medley of predictable answers on a beautiful yet unknown Monday.

If I were a Messiah supporter or fan I would not dish any gossip that might potentially hurt my squad.

As an ardent fan of soccer and all things D3 Soccer I do want to know why a Rising Jr. with a ring on his finger would want to leave a storied program.

I can definitely see both sides.

AS for whether the young man's ego is outsized. You tell me one good soccer player in the history of soccer who has not been accused of having an outsized ego?

Soccer is 99% confidence no matter what anyone else tells you.
To be good you have to be confident and people will always mistake a confident player for one with an ego. Thin line.

Very hard to come up with a squad over the last 15 years.

        JT/Wags  Bills     Payne

      Pezon  Woodworth  Kai

      Mull Binger Robbins Frey/Snavely

                 Shambach

Reserves:  Visser/Vincent/D-Mac/Ramirez/Sauer/Faro/Brandt/Boyles

I've been off the board for months, and I was surprised still to see questions about Danny Brandt when I dropped back in this evening to see what's happening. This is old news. As you reported last year, MrRight, Danny did in fact transfer from Messiah at the end of the 2014 season. According to this re-tweet, which I saw a little later, he originally went to Louisville:

Shane Campbell ‏@ShaneCampbell23 Dec 26  So glad I can FINALLY say that my lifelong teammate and friend @Da_Brandt will be joining me on @UofLmenssoccer starting this spring #fam

You can see this for yourself at https://twitter.com/Da_Brandt.

However, he left Louisville quickly, within just a few days, I think before classes even got under way, for reasons of his own. This fall, he's on the roster at a D2 school in Florida: http://pbasailfish.com/profile.asp?playerID=1239

It can be inferred from the information there that Danny sought to play in D1 or D2, b/c he wants to play professional soccer, and apparently he decided that playing in D3 doesn't help his chances to do so. Hard to argue with that. He was very interested in going D1 coming out of high school, so this is not surprising.

If my understanding of NCAA rules is correct, then a student who transfers into D3 can play right away, but a student who transfers out of D3 must sit out one season. If I'm mistaken I hope someone will correct me.

Those are the facts of the matter. Messiah has already given his old number to someone else. He'll certainly be missed, but it was already one of the two or three biggest rebuilding years in Falcon history. Lots of talent came in this fall and last fall, as we're about to find out. Indeed, the rising sophomore who took his place in the MF last fall when Danny was injured for about a month, Colby Thomas, is more athletic than Danny and perhaps equally skilled: in the closing minutes of the game with Tufts, he hit the post and had another blocked off the line--pretty good stuff for a freshman in those circumstances. If he remains free of injury, his numbers this year should draw a lot of attention.

Go, Falcons!

It's tough to argue against any one of the starters last guy put on his all-Falcon team since 2000. Very tough to argue. In fact won't argue against any of his choices, but my own list would find a place in the backfield for Chris Claassen, an AA who anchored the defense that won the 2004 tournament without yielding a single goal, and again in 2005 when the Falcons had an unblemished record all season. It's also hard for me not to put David McClellan on the starting team. IMO he was the most versatile scoring threat since 2000, while Bills was the most effective target, capable of getting of more rockets in the box than anyone else, no matter how much attention he drew (usually he drew a lot of attention and was often pulled down or held back while moving through defenders).

That 2005 team was, IMO, the all-time best single team, including the great senior-led team this past fall. It had 3 POY winners at one time--Kasiguran (my pick for the greatest Falcon ever with a nod to Woodworth), McClellan, and Binger (no one could have played more positions effectively than Binger, who spent most of his career as central defender). Had they all been in the same class, it would have been an even stronger class than last year's group, especially with the additions of Kasiguran's classmates Lenehan and Visser.

Almost forgot--I'd probably put Jon Brubaker on one of the defensive wings, too. He was probably as good as anyone at coming forward on the overlapping runs that are so important to the Falcon attack. Not to mention a rock on defense.

FYI--If you are a good enough player you can play professional soccer no matter what Division you spend your college years. There have been numerous D3 players playing in the professional ranks. So that cannot be the reason he left Messiah. If that was the case why didn't he start his career at a D1.
