I just want to go on record as saying I hate how the ODAC runs the conference tournament. Game tuesday, game saturday, final sunday. This is the first time all season teams will play back to back games and it will be for the conference title. You set the semi on Tuesday! Go Friday night and Sunday. Sure it means one team might have an extra night on the road, but the ODAC is pretty compact. You could do Thursday and Sunday and just send everyone home. Annoys the crud out of me they drop this schedule freak at the end of the tournament and have for quite some time.

Mr.Right

Not to mention 3 games in 6 days will take a toll on the AQ. The team will have to take Monday off and go light practice T,W,Th and travel Friday to play Sat. Not to mention 3 games in 6 days is a great recipe for injuries to pop up at the most inconvenient time.

Predictions:

CAC:   St. Mary's 1, Salisbury 1.  St. Mary's win PKs
ODAC: W&L 2, Randolph 0.
NJAC:  MSU 2, Rutgers-Camden 1.
SAA:   Millsaps 2, Rhodes 1.
USAC: Greensboro 1, Methodist 0.

NJAC:  MSU 2, Rutgers-Camden 1.
SAA:   Millsaps 2, Rhodes 1.

Nothing against the other ODAC teams but really pulling for W&L since looks like the sentiment is no Pool C for the Generals.  They have had a NCAA-worthy season, and those don't come around all the time.  Feel the same way for the Endicotts and Concordia (Wis) type teams out there who can see their impeccable campaigns blow up in smoke.  Greensboro has quietly had a very nice season as well.

jknezek

W&L beats VA Wes 4-2. D3fense playing well. Allowed only 3 SOG but somehow 2 snuck through. Once again W&L dominated the play. The Generals await the winner of Randolph and Roanoke. So far the ODAC chalk has held serve.

jknezek

W&L blowing up Randolph midway through the second half 4-0. Randolph carrying heavy legs from yesterday's 2 OT semi.

jknezek

W&L wins the ODAC 5-2. Definitely lost focus at the end and let Randolph have 2 before slamming the door. Looking forward to where W&L matches up. They could make a bit of noise in the tournament if the defense gets back to its stingy ways. The offense seems to be firing pretty well.

Given the data, I'd rank the programs over the last 5 years as follows:

1) Rutgers-Camden/MSU
2) MSU/Rutgers-Camden
3) York
4) CNU
5) Randolph
6) Salisbury
7) Emory
8) Rutgers-Newark
9) Berry
10) Methodist/Gboro/Noke
----------------------
Watch list:  W&L, MSU
Trending Up: W&L, Stockton, Rowan, Kean, Randolph
Trending Down: York, TCNJ, Rutgers-Newark, Lynchburg, NCWC

Up or down: Salisbury, Emory, CNU, Rutgers-Camden?  Not sure which direction these programs will go after losing some key pieces, and a coach (Salisbury).

I was bored one day and weighed the South Atlantic teams over the last 5 years using the following categories; NCAA Regional Ranking (1 pt), Conference Champion (3 pts), Conference Finalist (1 pt), Round of 32 (1 pt), Sweet 16 (2 pts), Elite 8 (4 pts), Final 4 (8 pts), Finalist (16 pts), National Champion (32 pts):

RUC                  63pts  (ranked 10x in NCAA Regional release) 4 NJAC titles, 1 Finalist, 2 Elite 8, 1 Final Four, 1 Finalist
MSU                  50pts  (ranked 15x in NCAA Regional release) 1 NJAC title, 2 Finalist, 3 Elite 8, 1 Final Four
CNU                  23pts  (ranked 10x in NCAA Regional release) 2 Conf titles, 0 Finalist, 1 Sweet 16, 1 Elite 8
YORK               21pts  (ranked 6x in NCAA Regional release)   3 CAC titles, 0 Finalist, 2 Sweet 16
SALISBURY      18pts   (ranked 12x in NCAA Regional release) 1 CAC title, 2 Finalists; 1 NCAA tournament win in 5 years, but have been ranked 12 times regionally!
EMORY            14pts   (ranked 8x in NCAA Regional release)   1 UAA title, 2 Finalists;  1 Round of 32

Using scoring system of 1-2-4-6-8-12;
RUC -  53 pts
MSU - 48 pts

Using scoring system of 1-2-3-4-5-6;
RUC - 46 pts

Lastguy - not sure why "12 regional rankings" for Salisbury is a surprise. What is your point?  Salisbury has underperformed in the post-season?  They are consistently over-rated in the rankings?  The rankings are flawed (shocking)?  RUN has been ranked 11 times also with 1 NCAA win but 0 conference titles in 5 years.  That inconsistency seems even more worthy of an exclamation point!  Wouldn't you agree?

Look at Salisbury's regular season performance – the information available when regional rankings are published. Over the last 5 years, they won the CAC regular season 4 times and were second once.  31-3-6 cumulative record.  Over that same time, the Gulls had a .500 record against "quality" non-conference opponents (i.e. those you think might be regionally ranked when you are making up your schedule: RUC, Catholic, Lynchburg, Stockton, F&M, Brockport, Roanoke).  Very few bad losses (although a couple this year).  That looks like the resume of a regionally ranked team - much of the time - to me.

If you are bored, I suggest you go back and tally all your predictions this year that involved Salisbury.  How'd you do?
