Monon Bell game with both teams ranked achievement unlocked.
DePauw squeaks in at #25 in the AFCA poll. Wabash moves up to #7.

Come back when they get ranked in a real poll.

Classic.

It's nice that you have video memories so you can remember what the Bell looks like.

When I was at DePauw, we never lost one. I know exactly what it looks like.

You must be old.  lol

And you never learned to show respect for your elders . . . Typical caveboy.

You need to get thicker skin, son.  Or find a better team.

Kudos to DPU for the Monon Bell section of their football site. The Monon Memories for every year of the rivalry is really good stuff. Great to look back and remember...both the good and the not so much.

Thanks, WAF.  It started with my thinking I'd make a dozen or so -- well...

They're all collected here - https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL7132D62E7C8E99EE  and appear (1890 through 2008) on the '08 DVD.

That CBS Sunday Morning clip from '79 was recorded by me over Thanksgiving break on a Betamax I bought with summer earnings.  Little did I know I'd someday be working at DePauw and working to archive the series.

This just in - the AXS promo for Sat's game: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TeCSqtW5Gc0

We have a good thing here, guys.

Have to hand it to the graphics folks there at AXS.  They managed to create a shot of DePauw walking off the field with the Monon Bell, which hasn't actually happened in the HD era.

Wally, you must have been late to the party.  The "HD era" began in 2003, as far as this series is concerned.  The 2007 & 2008 games, which you apparently watched on a Trinitron tube TV, were indeed HD DePauw victories. :)

Always so serious.  I am curious though what kind of favors DePauw had to call in with AXS to get a shot of them winning in that spot?  $100K investment and 30% of DVD profits?

Anyway, back to the 19th repost of McGuffey's stupid grenade video.  Because God knows that's not run its course yet.

But you are right that the Grenade hasn't run its course yet. https://vimeo.com/31460010 It just never gets old.

I don't know-  maybe the bear is going to post it seven times in honor of the seven touchdowns DePauw scored in the last six bell games.

The lesson this Sunday comes from good book of Peebles:

"For three transgressions of the Dannies and for four, I will not revoke the punishment, says Wallace of the Wabash.  Because they have coveted their neighbors' bell, they shall never possess the Bell, and it shall remain in stronger hands than theirs all the days of their lives, and they shall hear its sounds ringing in their ears, and they shall lust after it, but they shall be forever frustrated.  Becuase they have defaced their neighbors' campus, they shall fall before Stan Parrish and his mighty men, and they shall be powerless before the run, before the pass, and before the field goal, and they shall see many points on the scoreboard, but non shall be theirs, and they shall hear many cheers, but none shall praise them.Because they have broken their neighbors' windows, their own conceit will be broken. And because they have stolen their neighbors' banner, their tiger's tail will be cut in pieces. And, because they have dared to oppose the sons of Wabash in open combat, they shall be cut off out of the land of the living, and their name shall perish from the face of the earth.

But with the sons of Wabash it is not so. The sons of Wabash will possess the goals of the Dannies, and the mighty men of Parrish will trample the faces of the Dannies in the mud, and the hosts of Wabash call their team blessed. And even even the Dannies will remember that giants trod once again upon the earth that day.And the sons of Wabash will possess the women of the Dannies, and will bear them triumphantly away from Greencastle to a fair land to the north, a land flowing with beer, yea with much fine beer and with other pleasures that gladden the hearts of men, and there they shall dwell securely and in happiness all the days of their lives. And the sons of Wabash shall leave the shadow of their own vines, and their own fig trees, only once a year, as they travel triumphantly to and from Phoenix City, and as they pass a brown spot on the Indiana earth, they will say, that once was the Dannies."

Thus speaketh Yahweh.

That will be how many glorious consecutive days the Monon Bell will have been ringing in Crawfordsville by game time on Saturday.

Here are a few things to give you a little perspective on just how long that has been:

1.  Current Depauw Seniors were Freshman in High School the last time DPU won a Bell Game
2.  George Bush handed the keys to the White House over in 2009.
3.  Avatar was the largest movie of the year.
4.  Walter Cronkite and Michael Jackson were still with us.
5.  Apple launched the I-Phone 3G
6.  Facebook killed Myspace
7.  Twitter went mainstream
8.  a gallon of gas cost an average of $2.14 nationwide
9. The Los Angelas Lakers won the NBA Title
10. The New York Yankees won the World Series
11.  The Pittsburgh Steelers won the Super Bowl
12. 2009 marked the 1 year anniversary of the end of ZIMA (Could this be why DPU stopped winning?)

.....  You get my point..... It has been a long a%$ time...

A little ironic that the 2009 Monon Bell Game was held on Nov. 14th.....

Here is to the next 365 days...

Ding... Ding!
