Yesterday's Big Game Results

CAC York (Pa.) H (7 - 0)     vs CC Swarthmore A (8 - 0)   York (Pa.) wins battle of undefeateds  83-79, should move in to top 25

2 big MIAC games:
MIAC Carleton H  (3 - 0) (5 - 1)       vs Augsburg A  (3 - 1) (6 - 1)     Carlton wins 66-64, stays undefeated in MIAC with St. John's
MIAC St. Thomas H  (1 - 2) (3 - 4)       vs Gustavus Adolphus A  (4 - 0) (6 - 2)      (is this it for St Thomas?) NO.. St. Thomas wins 64-51

Today's Big Games

Closest we can come to a Big Game is an OAC Matchup:
OAC Heidelberg H  (2 - 0) (4 - 2)       vs Baldwin Wallace A  (1 - 1) (4 - 2)

I saw the 1st 12 mins but left early to avoid pending snowstorm on trip home. One of the refs was a former work acquaitance of mine and we got to talk for a couple pregame. Swarthmore was ahead 30-23 when I left; teams appeared evenly matched and balanced within each team(offense,defense,subs,etc.). to be factors in the post-season.

If you take this board and Darryl Nester's work on the Top 25, you've provided a great way to cut through the chaos of Division III basketball scheduling where there are 10 to 10,000 games a night to monitor.

Edited to correct the spelling of Darryl's name. The red is an homage to him.

Team First

Watched the game online. It was a good one. Swarthmore does have a good inside presence, but their bigs got into foul trouble which limited their advantage there. York is solid. They hit some long range threes from all over the place and they have guys that can drive the ball. Swarthmore had some trouble with the defensive pressure and York had trouble rebounding early but both teams can make up for those problems with strengths in other areas; they both looked like top 25 teams. I'll get to see York live when they visit Dickinson next week. That should also be a good one as both teams seem aggressive on defense and can score from all over the place. Can't wait.

;D ;D ;D Readers don't be fooled... the maximum amount of D3 games we see each year on a given day (Saturday) is around 200... that says there are some games vs non-D3 teams to add to the pot, but also some teams that don't play that Saturday that bring the number of games down..

I'm a numbers nut..
Saturday  Nov 18   187 games involving a D3 team
Saturday Nov 25    95 games  (Thanksgiving break)
Saturday Dec 2      189 games
Saturday  Dec 9       160 games
Saturday Dec 16   Scheduled   88 games.... nope, not every team goes to Florida

Saturday Jan 13 scheduled... (full conference sked, but not all conferences play on Saturday)   Scheduled 189 games

Still as Gordon mentioned and as I intended, for those of us who want to follow things on a national level up to the tourney, this makes things much easier...
The only thing not to be liked in Florida is no D3 hoops!!!

I appreciate the correction, but I use red to denote losses on the Top 25 report. Are you saying I'm a loser? :'(

No, but I am for not spelling your name right.

Today's Big Games 12/16
Surprisingly few big games on a Saturday that has  88 games scheduled... very few winner vs winner nonconference matchups or conference games that could change the standings dramatically..

GNAC Albertus Magnus H (5 - 2)     vs NJAC New Jersey City A (8 - 0)   the lone juicy non-conference game
WIAC UW-Stevens Point H (4 - 2)     vs MIAC St. Thomas A (4 - 4)   Throw it in with the big names
UAA Emory H (5 - 2)     vs ODAC Guilford A (4 - 3)  Will help show us who is a threat in the South

the OAC has two good conference games
OAC John Carroll H  (2 - 1) (6 - 1)       vs Ohio Northern A  (3 - 0) (5 - 2)
OAC Mount Union H  (2 - 1) (6 - 2)       vs Heidelberg A  (2 - 1) (4 - 3)

the SLIAC has two good games that will further establish the pre Christmas pecking ordre, but 1st place Blackburn should handle winless Iowa Wez
SLIAC Eureka H  (2 - 1) (6 - 2)       vs Webster A  (2 - 1) (5 - 4)
SLIAC Westminster (Mo.) H  (2 - 1) (4 - 3)       vs Principia A  (2 - 1) (2 - 4)

NOTE... undefeated Lycoming plays York today.. not the undefeated York (Pa.) team, but the CCNY  York (NY)  (3-5) team....hardly a Big Game
