Going from 2 great games and now W&L v. Sewanee out of the corner my eye to Iggles v. Pack. Crazy NFL game.

Maybe I'll catch some of the Swat v. Occidental at 10:00 hahaha.

W&L go 1 up on a (potentially) questionable PK call. Have been the better team especially in the final 15 of the first half after dealing with the crowd and physicality from Sewanee.

Have seen Sewanee in all 3 games now with them playing 2 CC opponents and W&L so far and have been unimpressed by the style for a team working to have a good year in the SAA. One glaring note is only goal so far was a corner in Game 1,and are currently sitting on about 10-12 shots in 3 outings. They seem to have very dynamic pieces on the bench in Sophomore Stokes McConnell tonight and Freshman Grayson White vs Hopkins, but both are sitting on less than 30 minutes so far.

W&L still look like they're getting out with a key win to stop a bigger slide

Quote from: Hopkins92 on September 06, 2024, 07:57:45 PMIf you're watching the game in B'more, looks a lot more like Hopkins takes a W than Kenyon. Both good teams, but I'd say Jays dominated possession and more danger chances.

Hopkins lives and dies by playing it out of the back and some sloppy play at the 25 yard line led to a turnover and well-finished goal.

Hop pressure led to a 30 yard cross into the box and a deft finish. Second half should be a chess match. Kenyon willing to wait and pounce, Hop doing a good job breaking the soft press and being dangerous in the attacking third.

I have long lamented the Jays inability to score. This iteration seems a little more dangerous with its movement and passing in the final third.

To be fair Hopkins has been for a while now one of the most dominant teams in possession in D3 soccer. So organized, understand each others movements so well, but I do believe there is a tendency to overplay and it hurts them sometimes more than it helps. Didn't get to watch their game tonight, but definitely will see if the game is still up.

Mary Washington with an asbolute performance against a Bethany team that is currently reeling after their first 3 defeats. I am interested to see how UMW will perform against some more difficult opponents in the upcoming weeks. Sundays game against Marymount should start them trending as their schedule starts to get more difficult. 17 shots to 0 in the first half against Bethany and I honestly do not think that Bethany was able to get into the attacking third once.

Swat must love the Cali weather!  Won 2-1. Could not watch b/c pay wall. Might have to go on the dark w3b and find a password??

Note on the W&L game, kid that got the red card is basically a waterboy for the next game in Georgia. Just looked him up and he's from GA and had played 80 plus min. a game. Rough.

Kenyon was just robbed a tying goal for a pretty fantastical off side call.  Pretty good game to start the day.

Rowan 3 - Johns Hopkins 0 in the 64th minute.

Wow! Worth checking in for the neutral fan.  We'll see if Rowan has learned from giving up an early lead to F&M on Friday, but they certainly are showing their ability to score in bunches.

FINAL:  Rowan 3 - Hopkins 1

JHU got a PK in the second half, but couldn't chip away any further at Rowan's lead.

Hopkins played the way they always do - dominating possession without creating many truly dangerous chances. Rowan played a smart and very physical game. They clogged the middle of their defensive half and used their greater size and physicality to win the many crosses Hopkins sent in to the box. They also pressed aggressively when they had the chance. The first two goals were on Hopkins defensive errors under pressure.

Tough, tough game(s) Hop.

F&M no bueno on finishing. You could say Kenyon suffered the same. Kenyon is definitely good. Welcome to D3 soccer. If you can finish consistently, well, D3 is not for you.

FYI F&M is doing its best Williams 2022 impression so far. Still think F&M has another gear especially when Oscar Horwitz gets back. He did play a few minutes.

On Wednesday, they have the annual Boot Game against Elizabeth which will be freely broadcasted in Iceland and the San Marino. So set your VPN. Every one else is SOL.

Week off after. Very good timing. Not the worst start, but better than having a loss.

Hahaha, yeah I don't think it'll get to 11 ties.

If this is in reference to the counter after the corner with under 5 minutes left in the first half, I'm guessing the AR called the offside as the Kenyon player was not level with the second-last opponent.  An F&M defender was on the goal line but since the keeper was so far out the second-last defender was the other F&M defender who appeared to be just outside the 6 yard box while the offside player was on or inside the 6 yard box.  Still tough to tell but using the 6 yard box as a VAR line it looked like the call was correct.

I'm beyond the days of just throwing out stuff, thinking this place is a vacuum where no players, parents or coaches are looking.

So I say, respectfully, that Hopkins is a very dangerous team... When they have a player or 2 that can consistently get in positions to capitalize on all their possession.

This iteration... While it's early, is going to need to really tighten up in the back, because they are going to need to win a lot of 1-0 and 2-1 games. The goals allowed this weekend... At least 3 came from gaffes in the back. They simply can't afford to do that.
