Quote from: eaglesoccerdad on November 07, 2024, 10:58:20 AMI agree that they will be a tough team to face.
Also think the York NPI ranking is a case study - play a weak schedule, win most of the games and will probably only lose 2 games. Best results are ties to Wash College and Carnegie Mellon. With that resume it looks like they will be in line to get an at large bid.

Agreed. Nothing perfect. May be crazy, but maybe the NPI could consider goal differential at some point? Could be too complicated. Maybe limit to 4 goal or 3 goal differential especially when teams blow out bad teams.

Yes, rough start by Messiah, but lights out the rest of season. They can only play who they play. Would not want to meet a team crushing it like Messiah.

I don't think that's the answer. You don't really want to encourage blowouts or scheduling weaker opponents to get "blowout bonuses". You could add bonuses to wins later in the season. This unfortunately de-emphasizes a lot of non-conference games and I'm not sure that's the way to go. Really the answer is to play a whole season. NPI is tracking the best teams over the season, not the best teams at the end of the season. The AQ should mostly take care of that latter.

Long time lurker, first time poster...

Can anyone confirm if the selection show for the tourney will be on Monday?

Hoping to tune in to a few conference championships tomorrow across the mid-atlantic region.

Catholic v Juniata (Landmark)
Messiah v York (MAC Comm.)

And tonight's entertainment:

Cenetennial Semifinal
F&M v Muhlenberg at 7pm
Hopkins v Dickinson 7pm

I can't say with absolute certainty, but it was Monday last year and in 2022.

I'm fairly certain the men's bracket is released at 1:30 Monday, with the women's bracket following at 2.

Hopkins folks loveeeee to say how great their school and team is but the reality is that with they always underperform on a national scale. With the quality of their school and their reach as recruiters they should be at the level of schools like Tufts or U Chicago. No doubt they are a very strong program but they have never been able to establish themselves as a dominant powerhouse.

d3tactico

justakidfromakron what are you waffling about? Its time to realize that Hopkins has elevated itself over the past 5/6 seasons to a national powerhouse. Its only a matter of time until they reach a final four. With that being said, I am predicting Red over Blue in the Centennial Conference Matchup.

Centennial Playoff Predictions

If Dickinson is able to replicate the brilliance that they displayed against WAC I can see them running over Hopkins tonight. Then again, it is easy to get carried away with their hype and forget the poise and experience Hop brings to the table in these games. This will be an incredibly exciting game that will have lots to show. My prediction is that Dickinson barely edges past Hop based off of their run of form and momentum.

F&M v Muhlenburg will play out much like this fixture has in the past. These two teams have met now for three consecutive post-seasons!! I see this game going to F&M based off of their home form and the drop off that the Mules have seen in their offensive output.

Red over blue seems to the theme right now

Yes, we all walk around like conceited jerks, proclaiming our school and soccer program's greatness.

Oh, wait... Just a few weeks back.

Quote from: Hopkins92 on October 01, 2024, 10:01:27 PMFirst off, d3tactico... WHOA!!!!!!!!!!! Welcome to the board and please please please stick around. That is great stuff, really.

One picky thing, and maybe this is just my generation of MAC originated oldness... Gotta call them Swat. I don't know  why, but that's just the way it is has to be.

And, yes, I've stated a gazillion times that Hop's style is limiting, but it produces very consistent results. I don't begrudge Coach Appleby for sticking with a system. Full stop. But, at some point, they need a striker that can stretch the top-half of the formation into a more dangerous approach.

As it stands, they are always going to push for a Conference title and have a mini-run in the NCAA tournament, but I don't see a national championship. Which... And I want to make sure I'm not being rude here... Johns Hopkins, with its national footprint and recruiting potential... They should be in the NESCAC, Chicago mix.

Hopkins92

And I would add that Hopkins Walk-On and others that follow the program on here are in no way considered cocky blowhards.

The results are all there in black and white.

Yeah, Dickinson did crush against WC. Maybe they can do it again. However, I definitely thought JHU outplayed Dickinson last time at Hop. Could see it going to pks.

As to the Muhls v. F&M, the Muhls have beaten F&M the last two times in the semis while F&M beat them in the reg. season. All bets may be off.  During this reg. season this year, Muhls were very, very flat and F&M comfortably beat them. F&M will definitely have to bring it to make the finals.

Fortunately, F&M has every game this season. F&M still has a lot of questions as how well it will do in this game like whether Horwitz will be effective and how strong will its defense be. However, if this team goes down, it is not the end of it. It has consistently fought back to ties or wins.

Hopkins92 we can smell the pretentious tone in your posts. Hopkins should be and has the facilities and ability to be a D1 program, yet still struggle against  the likes of McDaniel.

Over/under on how many more posts before akrondude has Guest under his name?

There's like 3 frat brothers in a room somewhere getting high and giggling about their stunning, beautiful owns of others on a D3 soccer board.

I guess they want the posting productivity and participation to literally go down to zero. Other than a handful of posters making significant contributions there is almost nothing happening. Attacking folks who are strong and good-faith participants seems a little counterintuitive, but you do you.

Hopkins92

Oh, "we" can, can "we"?

I'll respect your pronouns and move on with my day.

Very funny you popped in here, I almost referenced you in my response. You call it every year... folks that either don't participate or even lurk come out of the woodwork and take (often very weak) shots.

Doesn't bother me in the slightest--even if the folks contributing are a small number, this place is worth the occasional/random potshot.

(The funny thing is that we're pretty much agreeing with each other.)
