Fords beat Falcons 2-1.  Game moved to Rosemont due to weather.

Did anyone see this one? There was no streaming. From the box score, the Falcons had the better of it, but obviously just one number matters in the end. The sophomore who scored both Haverford goals was rookie of the year in his conference last year. I think he has four goals in two games already. Apparently a very dangerous guy who must be hard to mark.

I was able to make it to this one. Messiah did seem to be on the front foot most of the game. Haverford definitely put together some dangerous chances, but the Falcons had more possession and opportunities. Both of Haverford's goals came from #7, Jannelli, and unfortunately for Messiah, they both involved defenders slipping/getting tripped. The first half goal was a great turn with the ball at the top of the box that caused his defender to slip and opened up a wide lane for a beautiful left-footed strike inside the far-post. His second looked virtually the same, but the space was a result of his marker getting tripped by a Fords player cutting through the play. Other than those two opportunities, the Fords only had one or two other good looks offensively. They actually seemed to do their best work defensively and in the midfield - it seemed they were stepping in front of passes constantly, and they recovered quickly on defense most of the way. Messiah finally started carving them up pretty good in the last 20-25 minutes, but outside of West's goal to pull them back within one, they just couldn't get that final touch to draw level. Several times the ball was bouncing around loose at the penalty spot and a Fords defender just managed to clear it away before a Falcon could get there.

All in all, it was frankly a pretty high-quality and well-played game from both sides, especially considering both come from grass fields (this was played on concrete-colored turf) and that it poured down rain at times. A win Haverford should be proud of, and nothing for the Falcons to hang their heads over - they both looked like top 15-quality talent. Speaking of which, just to add to the "Haverford-shell-of-themselves" discussion, I'd have to disagree with that as well. They are obviously going to miss their key losses - players like Corkery don't come around very often. But they have plenty of big bodies who also have great touch and skill with the ball. They might not be a team that possesses you to death or runs you into the ground, but they can string passes together in the buildup and get a goal in a blink. Both goals today came seemingly out of nowhere. They look dangerous enough to me, anyway.

Thank you for the eyewitness account, Sherlock. Wet artificial fields always cause problems for the Falcons, but usually more on the offensive end (by disrupting their one-touch passing attack) than the defensive end. From your description, it sounds as though there might have been a different result on a dry grass field. But, no doubt Jennelli is a load and he might well have scored at least one goal if his defenders didn't fall down.

Sure thing Falconer. Happy to share my take. I'll reserve judgement on what would've happened had it been played under perfect conditions. Obviously Messiah would've benefited from a dry night on a natural grass field, but then, so would the Fords, as they play on a pretty nice grass field themselves. I would love to see a repeat of this one for sure though - maybe these two sides will meet up again late in the tournament.

Messiah at Rowan will be interesting. If game were played in Grantham I would give Messiah the edge. I believe Rowan plays on artificial turf which seems to be a problem for Messiah. Maybe just coincidence but they seem to have tighter games on artificial..like the Haverford game recently..but that had rain factor too. Rowan could be favored at home but either way it should be hard fought game... maybe a draw

Messiah with a 3-2 2OT win last night at Rowan. Big win for the Falcons and a heartbreaking loss for the Profs.

Muhles at F&M

Just read the Tarot cards and here's what they said:

Lycoming at Scranton - Lycoming 2-1
Haverford at Hopkins - Draw 1-1
Gettysburg at Washington - Gettysburg 1-0 OT
Etown at PSU Harrisburg - Draw 2-2
Manhattanville at Drew - Drew 4-1
Dickinson at Swat - Dickinson 3-0
Muhles at F&M - F&M 4-0

The Lycoming train rolls on with a convincing 3-1 win.  Etown barely edges PSU-Harrisburg in OT.  After playing some bottom feeders early in the season, it seems like PSU-Harrisburg actually has a bit of quality

Hopkins up 2-0 on Haverford at halftime. Streaming now.

Has anyone seen a 35-0 shot number?   Wilkes took zero shots against LVC

I was at that game.  Wilkes were really, really poor.  I'm not sure they strung more than 4 passes together at any point during the game.  And somehow they already had 2 wins on the season, including a 5-0 result.  It really puts into perspective the gulf in quality between the top tier and bottom tier D3 teams

Seems JHU should be moving up while Haverford and F&M may move down?  Poll should be interesting.

Looks reasonable. Both F&m and fords have 2 tough games this week (one against each other). Messiah on paper looks like much easier games but anything can happen. Etown may replace Dickinson at the bottom

Flying Weasel

Far be it from me, a Messiah fan, to stick up for E-town, but I think they may deserve to be ranked, not just RV.  They beat Eastern 2-0 at Eastern and beat F&M 1-0 at F&M.  They outshot Haverford 14-6 at Haverford, but fell 1-0 on a goal with 4 minutes left.  Sure, the Wm. Paterson loss hurts, but Paterson is 6-1-0, albeit against a weak schedule (and Dickinson beat them 4-1 a day earlier).  E-town is not the only side with a poor result.  2-loss Dickinson tied Swat (2-4-1) 2-2 this past weekend.  F&M has the loss to Cal Lutheran to open the season.  So I wouldn't be surprised if E-town is ranked.

I have not seen 35-0, but back in 2004 UC Santa Cruz, who finished 22-2 losing in the National Championship match, traveled to Cal State Hayward.  They outshot Hayward something like 27-0 in regulation.  Game went to OT and Hayward's first shot of the game went in for a golden goal.
