Looking ahead to next week I am going with a 4-1 win to Brandeis. Drew is poor defensively and will get picked apart. They were extremely lucky to survive both games this weekend in which they were outplayed in both matches.

I'll take that bet in a heartbeat. No way Brandeis wins by 3.

Where is FW? Any insight as to whether Messiah will host next weekend? I assume they will. Also with top seeds in other regions still alive they will host as well. Tufts, Chicago, North Park

If I'm reading that correctly, Messiah, Chicago, North Park and Tufts all host this weekend. But I'm a newb with this stuff, so take it with a grain of salt.

Actually I did watch the match and I didnt say a player got a Red.  Coach received a Red because he spent about 1 minute arguing with a ref about a non call on a Lycoming player who came studs up at one of the Drew players knee.  Drew team is not innocent here at all, but Lycoming plays this way every match I have seen them play.  Drew has it in them to play like that also, no doubt.

You said the team got a red so I can see why Shooter was clarifying because that makes it seem like the bench (typically a player or assistant) got the card when it fact it was the head coach. Most times if a head coach gets a red card most people would point that out. As for that specific tackle it was not knee height. The Lycoming player actually won the ball on a hard tackle but it was no where near knee height. That same play happened throughout the entire game so I am not sure why the Drew coach was going nuts.

As for the game itself I thought it was poorly officiated. I thought Lycoming played well in the first half and okay in the second half. It looked like Drew was sluggish out of the gate then came alive in the second half. Drew was able to hang around and ultimately they made a play that won it. I don't think either team is bad or played poorly. I think both teams worked hard and it was an interesting game to watch. To suggest Drew is just "edgy" and Lycoming is "dirty" isn't fair in my view. Both teams played hard and were able to get away with multiple fouls. Drew will be tested in the next round once again and that is the problem when you play the kind of schedule they do. No real challenges so far this year and they barely escaped the first weekend. It could easily have been either Lycoming or F&M in the 3rd round. With that said kudos to Drew for advancing and staying unbeaten.

I agree that the Drew coach over reacted but that is the reason why he did react in the first place.  Lycoming was unlucky not to have scored in the first half but as predicted they could not lose with grace.

Does this mean he can't coach next round against Brandeis? Apologies in advance if that is a dumb question...

Absolutely correct.  He cannot coach next round against Brandeis.  He can only watch the game from the spectator section or watch the game on-line from a remote location.  No contact with the team, either directly or indirectly, from the start of the game until its conclusion.

Looks like his assistants are pretty green. I doubt it will make much of a difference, since the HC will still be able to help them prepare throughout the week, but as a Brandeis fan we will take any small edge we can get!

Agreed.  Game day influence is minimal.  If the coach wanted to text instructions to the assistants, how would that be monitored?

This recently happened in a conference tournament in New England.  The coach of one of the teams received a red card in the final regular season game and was suspended for the conference quarterfinals.  He sat in the stands in the opposite side of the field from the benches and had no contact (even texting) with the team or assistants during the game.  Perhaps it is an honor system, as there is obviously no way that an extra official would be available (or assigned) to monitor, but any coach trying to set an example for his team would be honorable.

Luckily no. I just haven't witnessed a team that dirty in a long time. Hard for me to say the better team won in this case and to have bad officiating at this level is hard to imagine as well. Not a good image for the NCAA.
