So here is how the region sits in my eyes after this past weekend of play.

Shooters Power Rankings
1. Messiah (7-0-1)--The clear number 1 in the region w/the Marshmellow Bowl up next up for the Falcons
2. F&M (7-0-1)--Close behind Messiah after a nice win vs the Fords. Doesn't get any easier with Dickinson up next
3. Lycoming (6-1-1)--Quietly off to a nice start with an impressive win vs Christopher Newport. Next up is Misericordia
4. Drew (7-2-0)--Drew is on a nice streak with NYU up next
5. Dickinson (5-2-1)--Big game coming up next w/F&M
6. Hopkins (5-3-0)--Trending in the wrong direction w/back to back losses. Next up is Washington College
7. Gettysburg (4-2-1)--Trending up after a nice win vs Hopkins. Next up is McDaniel
8. Catholic (4-2-0)--Strong showing vs Scranton and a nice rebound win. Next 3 games will prove challenging w/Sailsbury, Drew and St. Marys.
9. Eastern (5-2-0)--Strength of schedule is the biggest concern for the Eagles but slowly trending up. Next up is LVC
10. Muhlenberg (3-2-2)--Trending down and haven't won in their last 4 games. Next up is Haverford in a battle of 2 desperate teams

Others: Manhattanville (6-2-0), LVC (4-3-0), Moravian (4-2-2), Swat (5-3-0)

Watch York. Seeing both Dickinson and York play Messiah I would say York is a much stronger and dangerous team. They have great team speed and conditioning. They have losses to Messiah , Hopkins and Eastern. I would much prefer to play Dickinson in NCAA tourney than York.

Dickinson has a much better striker, but otherwise I echo Rudy's sentiments. York is going to start beating some teams that on paper are a rung or two above them. They looked more athletic and better organized than Dickinson. Of course, perhaps they just had a good day and Dickinson didn't, but I'm going with York over Dickinson if they were to go head to head.

York is in the South Atlantic Region as well as PSU Harrisburg which I corrected myself earlier in the year by adding them to this region conversation  ::)

Surprised that Haverford is not getting a little more love.  of its 4 loses, two were in terrible weather, playing on small turf fields.  Neither is conducive to its ball control style.  Beat Hopkins and lost to F&M in OT.  Not saying this team is final four material, but still should be considered a contender in the Centennial Conference.  Not bad for a new coach.  Wednesday's game against Muhlenberg should give us a sense of how they stack up in this competitive league.

Agreed... watching Saturday's FM vs. Haverford game gave a real sense of how close the game was, despite the outcome.  And what's with the boxscore of that game?  While it was a defensive/possession oriented game, there are missing stats in the play by play - shots and saves by both teams not noted it appears.

No Marshmallow Cup this year!!!   :'(

For the first time in 37 years, rivals Messiah and Elizabethtown will not play each other (field conditions after more rain Tuesday) unless somehow E-town would win the Landmark and meet the Falcons in the NCAA tournament.  Their 2014 match was suspended due to lightning in the second half before reaching the 70th minute and was not able to be resumed, therefore going in the books as "no contest", but they did play each other--just not for the full 90 minutes.  That was the year Elizabethtown had joined the Landmark Conference, so it was a non-conference match and did not need to be made up.  For the 31 years prior to that they were conference rivals, playing at minimum a regular season game each year.

Now, what am I supposed to do with a dozen bags of marshmallows (and three disappointed kids)?!?!?!

Well played!

First MAC conference game for Messiah and Hood tonight at 730. Hood off to a hot start at 6-1-1with their own version of Nick west as Clay Smith has 11 goals and 4 assists. Could be a competitive game in Grantham.

rudy

Well Clay did not play for unknown reasons. From Messiah side this looked to be the first time this group of starters were all healthy and playing together. Midfield with Luke Groothoff, Justin, and Samuel. Wingers David Alejos and Jonny Groothof with Nick West at top. Then back 4 Joe King, Reid Ruark, Cooper Robbins and Shay. This lineup looked strong and aggressive. Subs also came on and played energized with Mica Fitz and Brit Hastletine standing out to me.  Most shots and goals in a game this year against a team that had only let up 4 goals all season. The Hopkins game this week will be very interesting to see how this lineup does against a tournament level team on the road on turf I believe.

Nice results over the weekend for Swat, Eastern, Drew, Hopkins, LVC, Kings

Expected results from Messiah, Lyco, F&M (tied), Dickinson

Gettysburg faces off with Haverford today at 2pm.

Messiah travels to Hopkins on Monday night in what looks to be the game of the year thus far for this region and has critical implications for the region. Game time is set for 7pm.

If I had my crack at it I would predict Messiah pulls this one out 3-1 despite being on the road with a turf surface. Nick West and the now healthy Falcons will prove to be too much for a struggling Hopkins side that will throw everything they can at the Falcons. 1-1 at halftime followed by an early second half goal from Messiah. As JHU pushes to tie it Messiah will seal it with a counter hence a 3-1 prediction. This is a must watch game for anyone who has the time!

Mr.Right

I caught the 1st Half of Messiah's match with Hood. I thought Hood and its GK played well for the first 20 minutes but once Messiah broke thru the floodgates opened. I thought Messiah looked really solid but the kid Joe King might be a weakness for opponents to go after and attack / press. Under pressure he gave the ball away at least 3-4 times last night. Obviously, he is a solid player but maybe a bit suspect and someone Hopkins might want to go at. I believe he was the RB last night.
