Lycoming loses to Arcadia. That's a surprise. Lyco is 6-0 at home and 1-4 on the road. Messiah playing at Lyco this week so it should be tight game on their field.

Really poor loss for the Warriors and the Mustangs as noted above. Big game midweek for Lyco as they host Messiah. I will be tuning into this one! The Commonwealth is wide open outside of Messiah's grasp on first place. The Freedom is up for grabs as well as 2nd place and 7th place are separated by just 1 game or 3 points. The Centennial is all but locked with the top 5 teams it will be a matter of seeding. The Landmark should be fun as well outside of Catholic and Etown snagging the first 2 spots. Lots of soccer left!

Lyco stream is either at field level or slightly above that so it's not the best for viewing. Should be a battle regardless of Lyvo last loss on the road. They are a different team at home.

So much for Scranton getting that top 10 vote.  Tied Ursinus, not a good result.

Lyco is indeed always tough at home; they use their field to their advantage (quite properly), and with very heavy rain expected all afternoon in PA, we'll have to see whether the game is even played at all (I haven't heard anything about a cancellation), and if so whether the torrent adversely affects either team. It's really too bad that this game is likely to be played under a (very big and dark) cloud, given the importance that the Lyco-Messiah rivalry has come to have in this decade. But, you can't control the weather...

Ugly game so far, no possession by either side to speak of......each side clearing the ball, no real soccer going on here.

Agreed. Messiah wins ugly--and narrowly--at Lyco, 1-0, on a first half goal by Brit Haseltine, who scores on a rebound after Fitz put one on frame.

Lyco nearly tied it twice in the second half on scrums, but somehow the ball didn't cross the line and the Falcons escape with the big win.

I watched a majority of this game and thought it was fairly even. Messiah had the ball a majority of the game as they typically do vs any opponent but I thought the scoring opportunities were relatively even throughout the game as were shots on goal and corners according to the box score. A tough goal for Lycoming to concede as the weather certainly played a factor on that play. I thought the officiating was good for the magnitude of this game but the end was frantic. I couldn't tell from the video feed if the ball crossed the line but from the reaction of the players I wouldn't be surprised if it was a goal. Almost impossible to tell from the video feed I was watching, as mentioned, but a part of me thinks it may have been in on multiple occasions. Regardless, it was a fun game to watch despite the choppy play at times and weather. Lycoming gave Messiah all they could handle and props to the Falcons for going on the road in a tough environment and coming out with a win. This might have been the result that clinched an NCAA berth for the Falcons.

Agreed. At least, the Falcons' fate is now in their own hands. If they run the table in the conference, they are probably in regardless of the AQ--which they would have to be favored to win anyway.

This team isn't yet as good as those in each of the past 3 seasons, but but they are very young and getting more mature with each game. The early season period, when several starters were out for a stretch and the Falcons lost or tied 3 games, undoubtedly helped the newest players get acclimated into their sophisticated system, so now when the second team comes in they are not as far behind the first team as they were (IMO) a couple of years ago. The group of FR and SO players are seriously talented and only getting better. The SR group badly misses Jonathan Groothoff (who apparently intends to come back for a postgrad season next fall), but SO Lucas Kokolios (who missed parts of last season) has been dynamite in his place on the wing. They are now much more dangerous on the attack than in that opening stretch, partly owing to healing up and partly owing to experience gained by the newbies.

I watched a bunch of that game and thought Messiah bossed the majority of it and Lycoming attempted to slow down the Falcons and chop up the play with a lot of (clean) fouls. I will say Messiah struggled to create quality chances, given the amount of time they possessed the ball.

Obviously, Dips v. Jays is the match of the weekend, but a ton of very interesting/important games up and down the region.

Agreed. Messiah was the better team but not by much. Could have gone either way but Messiah had the edge in my view. Hope we see a rematch later this fall!

Another interesting match-up of teams sitting just outside the top 10: Lycoming visits Stevenson on Saturday.
