Falconer

Messiah and Muhlenburg came into this game without having yielded any goals. That ended quickly, as Kokolios (back from injury) scored in the first five minutes from the right wing. The Muhles got it back about 15 minutes later, and that was it. 1-1, 2 OT. The game almost ended a few seconds early, when the Falcons had a point-blank shot blocked by the keeper. Very physical. Lots of shirt pulling from Muhlenburg, some of it called but none of it really dirty. Their field is awful—it was a major factor when Tufts won here 1-0 on the way to their first title, and it was a major factor today. These are both very good teams, nevertheless. The last time they played, before COVID, same result. They could meet again in November, but if so I hope it's in Grantham.

MAF Top 10
1. Messiah (2-0-0) a pair of nice shutout victories propels the Falcons to the top of the region in the early going
2. F&M (2-0-0) a pair of nice shutout wins as well have the Diplomats keeping pace atop the region
3. Gettysburg (1-0-1) the Bullets come back to PA with a draw vs a talented CNU side. Tough tests await with Lyco & LVC before an ease in the schedule
4. Swarthmore (2-0-0) a nice win vs Babson keeps all eyes on the Garnet as they look to repeat a 2019 Sweet 16 run and more
5. Stevens (1-0-1) two strong results for the Ducks have them as early season favorites and in the top 5
6. Catholic (2-0-0) tougher tests await this weekend for the Cardinals which should be more telling of where they are at
7. Lycoming (1-0-1) a solid start against two worthy opponents have the Warriors sitting inside the top 10
8. Hopkins (1-0-1) a little bit of a surprise draw w/NC Wesleyan has the Blue Jays middle of the pack early on
9. Muhlenberg (1-0-0) a strong showing over historically tough Scranton has the Mules in the top 10 for now
10. Eastern (2-0-0) a solid start for the Eagles, but we won't know too much until late September of how talented this group really is

RV:
Etown (2-0-0) two wins out of the gate is what they were hoping for, but tougher tests await this weekend as F&M hosts the Blue Jays
Leb Val (2-0-0)  a nice start but a tough 3 game stretch in a few weeks will be more telling
Moravian (1-0-0) a statement win for the Greyhounds as they took down Dickinson in their season opener. Ramapo awaits and should tell us more
Misericordia (2-0-0) a nice result over Ramapo has the Cougars lurking near the top 10

Surprised no Cabrini listed there.  Beat Haverford, and currently sit at 3-0.  There is a few schools listed who don't have any strong wins, or only have one mildly decent win (over Scranton for instance).

Yes that was a miss on my part! I would have had them as RV category.  :D

Thanks for this @Mid-Atlantic Fan.  Will be catching some of these teams to round out the teams I have watched.

Didn't get to watch as much of the Moravian match as I wanted, but they are looking like they will be tough all year as long as Sturza the transfer stays healthy. Kid can make good runs between CBs, take people on, and finishes well. Landmark conference could be an interesting battle.

LOL - "battle of the Steves".
But wow, some real interesting games in the region this weekend.
Washington vs. Muhlenberg - are these teams for real?
Gettysburg vs Swat - Dare I say this is a must win for Swat?
Moravian vs. Catholic - Catholic had to be preseason Landmark favorite but Moravian is the underdog story this year

Hopkins92

Hopkins with a 1-0 win up in PA. Probably could've salted the game away, but missed one pretty glaring sitter.

That said, this was a typical Hop-Fords game, with latter putting a decent amount of pressure on Hopkins in the last 15 minutes.

Overall observations:

- Hopkins clearly doesn't have the same level of confidence in its backline guys to possess like they are used to... That's on a relative scale, as they still try to build out of the pack most of the time. But with the adjusted goal kick rules, you'd expect them to come out with short passes everytime and especially late, they were hoofing it up instead.

- Haverford has some individual talent and can look dangerous linking up going forward. But, man, even giving Hopkins' talent going forward... Fords are very leaky in the back. Got beat down their left side quite regularly. Can see why they are having some trouble holding down results.

Oh, and Hopkins goal was a BANGER. Nice switch of field to a guy around 10 yards out and he smacked it off the goalie.
