Oh, and, yes, the field I played on has little (probably zero) association with W&L's current field.

I actually recall watching the ODAC playoff game(s) last year at W&L and the field was in pretty bad shape. Struck me, because of my personal experience many moons prior.

With regard to the field debate, SLU is not exactly an alluring place to play climate wise, but have been able to get players from California throughout the last 2 decades in no small part due to the field.  Playing surfaces absolutely make a difference.

Many moons ago we were not any part of W&L's current winning tradition.  We were lucky to be .500 much less make to ODACs. Haha.

The field you played on was very close to where the new field is and may overlap a bit. I think the road behind the new field intersects the old W&L field as I recall.  The back fields as it was called back in the day did not have the field hockey field (a real investment which most schools do not have) or the 3rd year housing. Nobody ever saw us play. It probably had one small viewing stand as well from what I remember over 30 years ago. Mike Singleton has tried to make much better, but it is true art to keep it up.  Also the women's team plays on it as well so there is also that impact.  They just added lights which is great for late fall games.  They practice on a turf field right next to the new stadium field.

They also beat Lycoming 2-0.  These rankings are based on the win % and SOS primarily so individual results are irrelevant.  Once RvR is added, then those results will come into play and move teams up or down

Rowan beat Lycoming 1-0 not 2-0.

6-0 loss to anyone besides Messiah or Chicago is tough to sell as a positive  ???

If I get some time, I want to cross-walk the regional ranking SoS with what Massey has... curious what is going on with differentials.

As i stated when paclassic put up the RPI #'s, I'm terrible with math, but still want to see how close the two are.

Although I won't crack the Rochester (paywall),  Alvernia has the chance to make a regional statement against a regionally ranked Rochester squad on Saturday.

You're the one that was trying to make the point that 1 game should have some sort of meaning in the regional rankings.  It doesn't.  Take it to the fan poll thread buddy

Massey's SOS is based off of his rankings and not the pure W/L records afaik

Games around the region this weekend...

NJAC
Stockton @ Ramapo @ 12:00 PM
Rutgers-Camden @ Montclair State @ 1:00 PM
New Jersey City @ TCNJ @ 6:00 PM
William Paterson @ Rowan @ 7:00 PM
Kean @ Rutgers-Newark @ 7:30 PM
GOTW: Stockton at Ramapo (also in weekly pool).   The Roadrunners have only 3 wins this season, but all of those are in-conference so they're sitting in 4th place.  With only 6 teams making the playoffs, a 10 win Stockton team in 8th place desperately needs the win.

LANDMARK
Catholic @ Moravian @ 1:00 PM
Scranton @ Susquehanna @ 1:00 PM
Goucher @ Elizabethtown @ 1:00 PM
Drew @ Juniata @ 1:00 PM
GOTW: Drew at Juniata (also in weekly pool).  Only 4 teams make the Landmark playoffs and Drew is sitting in 5th.  A win vs. Juniata likely moves them into 4th with one game left to play, thus keeping their playoff hopes alive.

MAC-C
York (Pa.) @ Eastern @ 3:00 PM
Lebanon Valley @ Stevenson @ 4:00 PM
Albright @ Messiah @ 5:00 PM
Widener @ Hood @ 7:00 PM
GOTW: Lebanon Valley @ Stevenson. (also in weekly pool).  The MAC invites 5 teams to the playoffs and Stevenson and LVC  currently sit 5th and 4th respectively.  But Eastern is nipping at their tails, so a loss for either this weekend would be devastating.

MAC-F
Delaware Valley @ Arcadia @ 1:00 PM
DeSales @ Lycoming @ 3:30 PM
Misericordia @ Stevens @ 7:00 PM
FDU-Florham @ King's @ 7:00 PM
GOTW: Misericordia @ Stevens.  The #1 seed and home field advantage is on the line.  Stevens is coming off a 5-1 pounding of DeSales while Misericordia suffered their first conference loss of the season in a 1-0 upset against Wilkes.

CENTENNIAL
Ursinus @ Franklin and Marshall @ 7:00 PM
Oct. 22Washington College @ McDaniel @ 1:00 PM
Gettysburg @ Haverford @ 3:30 PM
Swarthmore @ Dickinson @ 4:00 PM
Johns Hopkins @ Muhlenberg @  7:00 PM
GOTW:  Washington @ McDaniel (also in weekly pool). Washington is a .500 team but sits in 4th place in the conference.  McDaniel is 8-3-3  but is currently on the outside looking in.  The Green Terror deserve better this season and are fighting for their playoff lives

Simmer down pal. Not sure what you're referencing as I believe it was camofan that mentioned the Rowan 6-0 loss, not I.

Every game has meaning--some more than others. That's why the committee have criteria to follow. Certain results carry more weight than others do they not? Are H2H results not factored? I believe they are. So to your point--yeah one game could have a ton of meaning in the regional rankings, in theory.

Go to bed you're cranky.

Definitely the WC v. Mc should be a good game to watch.

Also the JHU v. Muhls could be a very interesting one.  Highest scoring (16 goals in conf.) against the best defense (only 2 goals allowed in conf.) along with playing on bad, bad grass which is incredibly hard to possess/pass/trap.  Anything could go. Guessing that the Muhls could be having the senior night as well. Especially since Hopkins has beaten most of Cent. Cent and tied WC (JHU has its last game against F&M).  Also seeding in the Conf. Championship is definitely on the line. Any result would greatly enhance the Muhls chances of hosting at least a game.

With that field condition they should not be allowed to host a playoff let alone home games in the regular season.  Instead of SC Field of Dreams, their field should appear on the FIELD OF SCREAMS LOL.  I can't imagine it helps Muhlenberg with recruiting, hey come look at our game field HAHAHA

Once again, watched the Hop game on a secondary screen while hanging with The Wife. She's also a Hop alum and is fully on board to have the game running while we watch one of our stories. (Bad Sisters on Apple+ is an excellent show, if anyone is looking for recommendations.)

I want to give the Jays some credit, instead of reflexively slagging on them for a tie. They were extremely bent on going forward in this match and I felt a draw was (kind of) an unlucky result. The Red Devils did enough to trouble their opponents in the second half and scored a scrappy (garbage) goal with the ball popping around the box. The Hop goal was a thing of beauty off a set piece... They were threatening through most of the match and they hit the crossbar with about 11 seconds to go.

Kudos to both teams for a hard fought, relatively clean battle.

I watched most of it and I agree.  Very hard fought game.  JHU's goal was nice and Dickinson's was a popcorn situation in front of the goal is always tough.  Not much the keeper could have done. JHU almost got the win with the great shot in the final minute which went off the crossbar way beyond the keeper's reach.  Crucial games this weekend leading up to what could be a great game next Saturday!  It's what makes it all fun.

Good luck at Muhlenberg on that meadow.  They are supposed to be getting turf next year.

If you have any doubt as to the shape of Muhl's grass check out a few minutes of this game - https://www.centennialconference.tv/muhlenbergcollege/?B=407668

Finally got around to checking out the field. Yeesh.

Will be interesting to see how Hop deals with that nonsense tomorrow.

Totally agree, Rumor is that they are getting a turf field next year.  Apt series name for this time of year.  They could play on the turf football field also, but I don't think it is lined for soccer which is strange.  Also in the same conf., Haverford's field is as bad or almost as bad.
