Have not watched JHU until this pm. Now I know why they have been winning all their games 1-0. They simply can't put it in the back of the net. In the last 10 min and again in OT, they had several good opportunities

Yep, all of that made perfect sense.

Loved your line about ending up somewhere in Ohio.  And based on my track record JHU will beat Kenyon....1-0.

Well, to be clear, I was more just harkening back to losing to John Carroll last year in the snow.

Hopkins D1 transfer goalie seals this game in PKs. Book it.

ETA - I hate when they do this. Not the D1 goalie now... subbed out for this other dude.

ETA2 - I don't like giving college kids a lot of guff, but... Those first 2 PKs were "unfortunate" for the Red Devils. Goalie could've been a pylon to be frank.

ETA3 - Hop GK made 0 saves. Dickinson lost it with those first two sky rockets.

I will say, though, full credit to 4 of the 5 Hop PK takers for absolute ice.

I don't like the decision to have the one guy that took a PK today to go first. Just don't like that from a mental standpoint. You start double and triple thinking your shot when you've already taken a PK in a game. It's VERY difficult and you need to be an absolute baller to make two in a game. That dude is a center back or holding midfielder. Just... No. Have someone else start things off.

Muhlenberg 1- Gettysburg 0.   No at large bid for Gettysburg this year

Hopkins92

Muhles win 1-0 playing the final (roughly) 18 minutes of the game down a man. TBH, Gettysburg didn't do much to pressure the Muhles and again, TBH, I'm not all that impressed with a team that seems to get a lot of push from regional rankings and folks on this site. They have very little juice in the midfield and seem overly reliant on long throw-ins as their offensive weapon of choice. That stuff can work, but it's mostly built off of chaos.

Ok, also, to be fair, I'm working off of a limited sample of actual game watching, so take what I say with a grain of salt.

But, up a man with a lot of time left, and they really didn't do anything that showed me they could build and attack and be threatening. It's one thing to get bogged down and logy in a mid-season match (I guess, this is still a conference foe), but in the context of playoffs and fighting for a ticket to the Dance?

My impression of Hopkins (and for many teams) the season is such a grind.  They definitely played well 75% or so of the season.  Like last year, they faded at the end.

Dickinson's first goal was break away with a nice finish.  The second with 6 min. to go was a defensive miscue with a keeper error.  Hopkins definitely looked like they played a game 3 days ago.  Once they got their second goal, they definitely dropped off substantially for the rest of the game.

However, they did what they had to do when taking the PKs.  Always harder, though the first JHU taker was the one who took the PK during the 1st half and went to the same side as well as did not strike well at all.  First two Dickinson PK takers just skyed their chances.  Pressure is never on the keeper, but the guys taking the pks.

Now they have to travel to Chestertown to play WC in another 3 days.

Agree as to JHU's first PK taker.  He went the exact same way and his shot was a lot worse than the first!

What you said above is key and why I absolutely LOVED PKs... Pressure's not on me, dude. :D

As for the overall season, they faded HARD last year and got knocked out roughly in this situation last year. Which is why they got sent to the Snow Bowl. I actually feel like this team will find the legs and meet the Dips in the final. I don't think the Muhles have what it takes and I think Hopkins will find away in Chestertown. Unless something has changed dramatically, that's not a super intimidating place to play and it's not like it's a crazy long commute from B'more.

Not an expert, but Gettysburg should be done.  They definitely did not show a lot in the Muhlenberg game.  They faded a lot at the end of the season.  They just played Muhls at home to a 1-1 tie on Saturday. They have to do better. Unless they are NESCAC, they should not get in with a 9-4-5 record.

FYI, according to announcer, Muhls will be down their captain (2 yellow=red) and one sub (8 cumulative yellows) who scored their goal. F&M beat Muhls 2-1 earlier.  F&M was up 2-0 before giving up a late goal to win 2-1.  Still got to beat got to perform.

Two great games of the week - JHU v. WC and Muhls v. F&M (but this time of year all are great games of the week!)

I hope so for JHU.  I would love to see them at Lancaster on Sunday assuming of course F&M does what they need to! That would be great!! If JHU makes it to the finals, they should not get sent to the Great Lakes and/or NESCAC land.

Our son loves PKs as well. A lot of fun for him and not so much for the takers.

Just make sure JHU leave early on Friday!!! Bridge is mess most Fridays, hahaha.

New to the Board and to D-3 soccer. Can someone briefly explain the importance of the Regional Rankings? I realize they are important, but do they determine what schools will host the first weekend? Do they determine who hosts the 2nd weekend? Thanks!

College Soccer Observer

They determine which schools will qualify from pool C as at large teams for the tournament.  They may play some role in determining hosts, but it is more complex than that.  Teams have to apply to host and there is a protocol in place that makes it hard for a school with men's and women's teams in the tournament for both of them to host.  @GregorySager can probably given you a ton of details.

Here is a very good explanation from the guys at d3soccer.com:
