MAF Power Rankings (9/20)

Region 4
1. Montclair
2. Leb Val
3. Stevens
4. Stockton
5. Rowan
6. Kean
7. St. Marys (Md)

Region 5
1. Messiah
2. F&M
3. Scranton
4. JHU
5. Widener
6. Dickinson
7. Muhles

In 5... I have to say, Widener (I know I've been kind of jokingly annoying about them the last 2 seasons) probably deserves a higher spot.

Curious if paclassic has the RPI data to back up Massey, which has Widener as one of the higher seeded teams in the region behind Messiah and F&M. Scranton, IMO, is overrated at this point. And not just going by Massey, just overall take on their opponents and results.

So, I haven't entered the results of yesterday's games yet, which will give them a boost (maybe not a big boost because Moravian has an average record).  But through 9/18, Widener was not even in the top ten for Region V according to RPI.  Their opponents' winning percentage was one of the lowest in D3 so far.  It was .3717 haha.  With that being said, I think Widener is at least top 7,  they just haven't been tested yet.

And that's why we tap into the expertise... Thanks pa!

Don't know how many may be watching the JHU - Stevenson better know as the Charm City Bowl.

JHU has been dominating, but Stevenson keeper has make at least three circus saves. Also interesting is the camera angle.  About 6 or 7 feet above the ground on the 50. Kind of makes you feel like your on the field. Not in Stevenson's stadium which has really crappy turf, but on a fairly nice grass. Without a stadium, game also has that club game feel.

Good game on between F&M and Kean, catch it if you can!

Definitely! F&M got lucky several times.  Kean looks strong. Do you have sound??

camosfan

Good description of the field! I want to say... idyllic? In Owings Mills. :D (it's actually a nice suburb, but the Mall / Office Park you see off the highway belies all that.

Really nice goal for Hop to take the 1-0 win. Sorry to be a broken record, but Hop has a long-standing habit of failing to put teams away. Stevenson played to the end and almost grabbed back a draw in the last 5.

Know it well. Been there many times for Maryland HS lacrosse games. Also son's club team used to practice at McDonogh as his coach was McDonogh's Should have been at least a 3-0 game.

If you are watching the most of the Kean F&M game, F&M has been relentless pretty much the whole game. This year and over the last couple of years the last 20 minutes F&M seems to be the most effective. F&M caught a few breaks early.  I think Kean's No. 9 has been blatantly offsides probably 4 or 5 times which has been a great for F&M.  He is definitely wearing down.

I think the Kean's keeper has 12 or more saves now.  5 or 6 might have been soft but the rest have been tough ones.  So we will see where it goes. FYI, F&M had the same issue last year when they couldn't score till the 89th min.

Kean wins. They got a good goal. No excuses. F&M just couldn't finish and Kean's keeper made some very good saves. On to the next game.

Good game I know three kids on each team, so was pretty much neutral.!

Mid-Atlantic turning out to be fascinating with a great deal of parity after Messiah (who also hasn't exactly rolled over opponents). I was surprised by the F&M/Kean result as I watched Kean play in preseason and was not impressed. It seems they must have dealt with a few injuries early in the season. I also watched LebVal in preseason and was impressed. Good result for Gettysburg as it looks like Catholic will have to win the Landmark to get in. The Centennial is going to be fascinating to watch and I'm also not sure Widener can hang in for an at-large berth. Perhaps a 2-0-7 record wins the CC?  ::)

I think the Mid Atlantic will make some noise this year - outside of the usual noise makers (Messiah).  Several teams with talented players, and dangerous styles of play  - which should include Lynchburg, Widener to name a couple.  Thrilled to watch (if the buckets of rain don't stop it) Mary Washington at Messiah this Saturday  - while I don't think a "Season defining match" for either side - it does grant perspective and comparison in a very tangible way.......and likely a matchup that could very well happen again come NCAA tourney time.

Messiah with what was kind of an interesting result against E-town. Jays scored very early, Messiah knotted it before the half, McDonald 30 seconds into the second half. Falcons got another and were cruising (per recap) and then E-town scored on a rocket in the 85th minute. Mary Wash coming to Shoemaker on Saturday for an epic clash.

Meanwhile, the Widener Pride are 6-0(!!) and actually sit atop the MAC-C. Last year's breakout star Sean Fatiga put 4 points on the board with 2 Gs and an assist. Christian Doyle had been carrying the bulk of the offensive load and I'd been wondering if Fatiga had a knock or something... He sure broke free of that notion last night. Next up is an imminently winnable game against a floundering Misericordia team in Chester.

=-=-==-=

Centennial squads are mostly (all? I didn't go through everyone) playing OOC games. I suppose the F&M v. Kean game is the most intriguing tilt.

I've taken the time to go back and watch video from the Messiah games (love schools that broadcast and archive games) - and of  three goals that they have given up this season  - two are from set pieces (and both bad fouls at the top of the 18, one with a wall that failed, and one with a gem of a shot) - and one from a really bad give away from the center back  - yielding a seed of a shot and goal.   Nothing has been really given up during the normal run of play -  which is telling.  Saying that  - they have also controlled the ball every game - and simply need to finish! They are also still without Lent-Koop - so when he can return - the already tough defense gets tougher.  While I realize that Messiah is not lacking passionate supporters  - I still see an exceptional side that seems to be simply be settling into the season.  I have also been impressed with their GK play.  A plus distributor of the ball - and if you watch the Dickinson match - the difference maker.   Whiel we expect them to win - they have had a good early season schedule - and are performing well as they find their form.

Figured I'll try to post about the Atlantic East this season. Not a conference to get much regional talk & very much just a one bid conference every year. But there are some interesting story lines I can piece together. Results from last night.

Gwynedd Mercy 1 - 1 McDaniel | This may be one of Gwynedd's best results in a long time. Certainly since 2019, this is their first point against a top ~300 d3 side. Shot counts at least show it was a relatively even game as well. Good for the Griffins.

North Carolina Wesleyan 1 - 4 Marymount | Very important result for the Saints who have had a rather slow start to life as defending conference champions. 2022 Conference Player of the year Leo Torres bagged a brace and is now on 4 goals for the year. Slow start for both Leo & the Saints but are they poised now to go on a run?

Scranton 3 - 0 Marywood | Not too surprising of a result in the battle of Scranton. Marywood holds on for 50 minutes before Scranton can find the back of the net.

Neumann 2 - 1 Lancaster Bible | A much needed win for the Knights who played up a man for 70ish minutes. A goal in the final minute secured the come from behind result. Looks like one of those games where the Chargers were down a man and under fire. 8 saves for LBC throughout the match. Neumann gets back in the win column after dropping a result to Widener in the last minutes of their previous match.

Centenary NJ 1 - 7 Rutgers-Newark | Centenary are off to a very slow start having played 4 NJAC schools in the first half of the year. A tough year for them as there was a coaching change leading up to preseason. They need to find form soon as Gwynedd might be able to compete for that last spot in the AEC playoff picture this year.

Cairn 1 - 1 Cabrini | A result that will probably be seen as a negative for the Cavaliers, but they extend their unbeaten streak to three. Dates with Alvernia & Misericordia await as they lead into their final conference schedule in two weeks time. Hard to tell if depth will be an issue as the season wears on but Cabrini look strong enough to compete at the top end of the conference.

Tonight Immaculata host Albright. The Mighty Macs are desperate for a win, sitting at 0-3-3. Albright are a surprising 5-1 on the year, but their highest ranked win is Massey 389. Imac will definitely be hoping for some momentum in the next week as they start out conference play hosting the defending champs Marymount on 10/4
