Goals from Hopkins at WC last night (video is raw and unedited):

Hopkins first goal

Hopkins second goal

First goal was a great finish.  Hand ball was missed in the build up for goal #2, but so it goes.  There were quite a few no calls, but at least it seemed to be consistent.  There was only one yellow shown and iirc it was for dissent.  Attendance was sparse for visiting Hopkins--I did not see any students.  If I can find some time I'll work on a video of the press including some adjustments it seems Hopkins tried to make.

To one of the points above I heard they have 5 D1 grad student xfers.  Unless I'm missing something I count 4 on their current roster.  I'm thinking once the 5th year of eligibility expires there may be somewhat of a regression to the mean.  Time will tell.

Thanks Fred!

I counted 7 grad students on Hop's roster. I think 5 get a lot of playing time and one comes.off bench and gets quality time. Of the 7, I think 2 went to JHU undergrad. Some are D1s grad students  but some played D3.

Hopkins Walk-On

Hopkins grad students:
- Aidan Dunphy - MF - starter - played at Hopkins as an undergrad.
- Griffin Meyer - F - starter - played at U. Denver as an undergrad.
- Ben Goodman - W - starter - played at Winthrop as an undergrad.
- Eli Carr - MF/D - starter - played at Old Dominion as an undergrad.
- Max Edelstein - MF/F - has started 10/15 games - played at Colgate as an undergrad
- Ben Sollinger - D - reserve - played at Hopkins as an undergrad
- JP Furman - G - has started 7/15 games - played at Sewanee as an undergrad

So 4 current starters, one reserve who gets a lot of minutes, one reserve who gets a few minutes, and a goalie who has played roughly half the games but not the last few

It's a huge advantage in game.  About 30% of the players on the field are 5th year.   23 and 24 year olds playing 18 and 19 year olds

I would say it can be helpful but one can't overlook chemistry.   Beginning of season, Mary Washington (without any grad transfers...at least listed) handled JHU and what stood out was Mary Washington's chemistry...they looked like they never dropped a beat from last year's Final 4 team.   And remember JHU had its own success making the Elite 8.   Now that we are deep into the season, JHU chemistry does seem to be there once again.

Yes, definitely an advantage, but we will see obviously in the next few weeks. Having opportunities for students to go to a great university while as graduate students may only be short term.  Question will be if there will be a hangover experience/recruitment wise in the next couple of years once this ends.

FYI JHU womens won the nat'l championship last year with 9 grad students and are doing well this year with 6 grad students.

Did not see the W&L v CNU game and unfortunately the stream was not saved (or I can't find it). Obviously a disappointment. Looks like W&L had opportunities, and, based on the recap, CNU's first goal sounded like a tough goal to give up -

The Captains (10-2-2) took an initial 1-0 lead in the 16th minute following a throw-in near midfield. The throw came into Elton Quintanilla who turned, took one touch, and found Caleb Jones on a through ball on the left side. Jones took control after a hesitation touch, before racing into the box on the left side. With W&L (9-3-4) defender Will Luik draped all over him, Jones hit a left-footed shot which pinged off the right post and into the back of the net, just beyond the outstretched arm of goalkeeper Will Joseph.

Just got to come out strong with the home game on Wednesday against Lynchburg.  Win and get home field advantage all through the ODACs. Maybe have to do it the hard way.

Was at the CNU vs. W&L game.  CNU probably had the better of the play in the 1st half.  Then gave up a sloppy PK only seconds into the 2nd half.  CNU got the second goal via a really nice volley.  Fairly even after that until W&L poured on the pressure with about 10 minutes left but CNU held on.

I was there as well. Agree with your assessment of the game. Both teams had chances, unfortunately W&L couldn't finish any.

Sorry to hear about W&L

F&M played a throw back to the previous two seasons. A lot of chances they were not able to finish.  Despite Gettysburg coming out swinging in the second, F&M got a nice goal to win on Seniors Night 1-0.  One more conf. game next Saturday against WC. Win or draw and F&M will win the conference.

Tough, tough tie by Hop against Swarthmore. From what I saw, Hop definitely out played Swat. Just got unlucky for one moment in the second half.  Mathematically, I think Hop can still get 2nd place in the Cent. Conf, but tough road. Will need for the Muhls to beat WC tonight and then Muhls lose in its final game against McDaniel. Of course, Hop will have to beat Dickinson away. That is also assuming that the conf. tiebreaker goes in their favor (head to head Hop tied the Muhls). At the very least Hop has a guaranteed home playoff game now.

Shoremen go up 1-0 in the 54th.  Camera angle in Allentown is horrible.

Hahaha, yes nice goal. Just enjoy the Muhls new turf.  Their grass field was really, really bad until they got this. It was definitely an advantage.  No stadium so no high perspective and no real high press box so only low shot. They do have a pretty big football stadium, but, obviously, don't play soccer there.

When I read the bios of the 6 grad students on the JHU women's team, it seems a bit of a joke.  Most of them have either legitimate D1 experience for middling to good (e.g. Wake Forest) teams, or many games of starting experience with leading D3 programs (e.g; Pomona, Hamilton, etc.).  This doesn't strike me as particularly fair...but I'm probably old fashioned...

You mean Hopkins tied Haverford, right?  That was the opponent today, not Swarthmore.

Haverford has actually tied both F&M and Hopkins and has 8 ties overall.

Or 23 year olds playing other 23 year olds while the 19 year olds watch from the sideline.  Current recruits are aware of this or at least should be.  I'd think a return to the norm for recruiting is the starting point.  All speculative and macro level of course but maybe current sophomores and juniors could be considered a lost generation.  Three years later still feel bad for students athletes affected by 2020.
