As I said after watching Dickinson defeat Messiah, 2-1, for the first time ever in more than 40 contests: this is the best Dickinson team I've ever seen. Nothing since then gives me pause.

And, since I've been watching such games since the 1980s, usually in Grantham but sometimes in Carlisle, I've probably seen more Dickinson teams than anyone else here. Obviously, that doesn't "prove" my opinion, but I probably have as much right to it as anyone else, including longtime Dickinson fans unless their visual experience goes back equally far.

Dickinson is very good and may end even better if it beats Hop at Hop this weekend. Currently in 3rd place in the Cent. Conf, but 4 pts below 2nd place.  However, will probably need to at least tie to keep third place as 4-6 places are less than 1 or 2 points below.

As to performance in CC as far as opposed to non-conf. games, you could so-so - 4-1-3 Beat bottom 3 CC teams while winning against  McDaniel and lost to the Muhls, tied F&M (of course), WC and Swat. Non-conference wins and other than Messiah, are not against great teams, but a win is a win is a win. Overall, the best Dickinson team in a long time.

Final CC weekend is crazy as to the games to be played - 1st place JHU plays 3rd place Dickinson, 2nd place F&M plays 4th place WC, 5th place McDaniel plays 6th place Muhls. JHU and F&M have clinched 1st or 2nd place. JHU has its fate in its own hands - beat Dickinson they are the reg. season champions which might be the first time in a while.  Muhls could jump 3 spots to host a playoff game if it wins and Dickinson and WC lose. Almost like the game planners knew.  These games could be pre-playoffs before the playoffs. FYI all have clinched a playoff berth. All kicks of this Friday night.

Not to pile on, but Haverford has 2 points in CC play. Long and gradual descent from 2017-18.  Like 2021, Swat and the Fords are playing a pure, final rival last game and did not make the CC tournament. Who would have thought that Swat would be in this place with its very hot start at 7-0-1? 2-5-1 in Cent Conf. though all loses were by one goal.  Brutal sport.

Taking a look at the stats again for DPOY, Tshazi Kamau from Washington College might be a good shout as well.  Washington leads the Centennial with only 5 goals allowed so far in conference play and Tshazi has 1 goal and 4 assists as an outside back

May have missed this, but who at Cent. Conf. picks the P's of the Year?  Coaches? Cent. Conf. staff or a combination of both? I know the pre-season poll is based on coach votes.

I have also seen where a player's overall perf. as opposed to only conf. gets the nod and visa versa. Overall v. conf. play, which means more?

DPOY is tough to pick. Its also a long time since a McD player has been picked for anything.

Hopkins Walk-On

Len Yamabe from Swarthmore was one of the better players I saw this year. He gave Hopkins fits.

Will say, UMW is holding it's own against Virginia.  0-0 in the first half.

And of course, I type that and UMW concede a terrible own goal.

What's interesting to me is the play of St. Joseph's transfer Mikkel Andersen in the back for Hopkins. I was VERY impressed with both his ability to shutdown dangerous chances but his ability to advance the ball with his feet and deft passing when I saw him in person on Saturday.

As with past years, some of these grad student transfers from D1 programs take some time to figure out their role. But when they do, they are lights out. (Ben Goodman was this guy last year.)

yes - missed a golden chance to equalize and then let in #2

3-0 now for UVA, with the last two goals coming from very poor marking.

NEsoccerfan

The right-wing Wiese for UVA has been a menace for UMW to deal with.

Upside the own goal won't the decider most likely. Unfortunately, it looks like a u18 v. u16 scrimmage.

Thanks SC for the commentator jinx

Don't look now. UMW pulls another back to get to down 3-2 with 18 minutes left.

Looks like a crazy finish in Newport last night. Salisbury scoring with 30 seconds left on a FK and CNU scoring with 10 seconds left to grab a point.
