I was surprised how close UMW was to being in the Top 25 after how much they graduated from last year's team. They'll be good and near the top of the CAC but need to establish themselves. As I said before Marymount has to be the preseason favorite.

Pleasantly surprised, though, right bbald?
UMW lost some incredible players to graduation. I've yet to see the freshmen on the court, so time will tell. Reputation has to be a large part of any preseason poll. One can't deny the 114-15 record with four NCAA appearances over the last four years.
As all the ones in the past have been, it will be an interesting season.

bbald eagle

yes, pleasantly surprised, and even more so by UMW's ranking in the WBCA poll.

Congratulations to Marymount's Kathleen Brown on her preseason D3 Hoops all-American selection, which IMHO is well-deserved.

The ESPN/WBCA poll ranking was nice.  The roster is up and you can probably tell, it is loaded with freshmen.  They scrimmaged EMU this week and will scrimmage CNU soon and it looks like Coach has done it again. Incredibly talented group of players!  ;D
The season opener will be against Bridgewater always a force in the ODAC.
The newbies seemed like solid players, and will only get better as the season progresses.
Now where's that media guide!?!?

preseason prediction

1. Marymount - loaded
2. Mary Washington - lost a lot but should compete for first
3. York - Drop off is deep after 1 & 2. Daly gone, but York should still be the best of the rest.
4. Salisbury - young
5. Wesley - moving up I think
6. St. Mary's - if the roster posting is complete at 5 players, St. Mary's will struggle
7. Hood
8. Villa Julie
9. Gallaudet

St. Mary's (Md.)  75 (1-0)
Ramapo             48 (0-1)

Does anyone have the all-tourney selections for the marymount touney?

Graybeard

The ATT was read off hurriedly and I know I missed a couple. MVP was Meredith Levison of Marymount. 53 pts & 6 assts in 88 minutes. 11 out of 16 from 3! Best defense on the floor all weekend.

The others I caught were:
Cynthia Rivera -- Stockton
Brittany Whetts -- Neumann
Caitlin Moser -- Gettysburg
Mary Spicer -- Gettysburg
Kathleen Brown -- Marymount
Kathryn Wilson -- Marymount

There were at least a couple more. Deserving, IMHO, were Miranda Carrasco and Tonya Wright from Ferrum and Kaitlyn Fiorino from King's. Who knows; maybe they were too...

musid

The all tournament team for the Marymount Marine Corps Tip-Off Tournament was

Cynthia Rivera -- Richard Stockton
Kaitlyn Fiorino -- King's
Brittney Bullock--Ferrum
Brittney Whetts -- Neumann
Brianna Peterson -- Catholic
Catie Biordi -- Mt. St. Mary
Caitlin Moser -- Gettysburg
Mary Spicer -- Gettysburg
Kathleen Brown -- Marymount
Kathryn Wilson -- Marymount
Meredith Levison -- Marymount MVP

Marymount, Mary Washington, and York seem to be doing okay so far but most of the teams in the CAC are racking up losses :'( and probably can't wait for league play to start so one or the other CAC team must get a W in each game ::).

mamadukes

A few CAC matchups this week, then off for Holiday/Exam break. Mary Washington will be meeting up with Randolph Macon in, of all places, St. Thomas, VI  over the holidays!  The ODAC is still shaping up, much like our conference but RMC is always a contender. Should be an telling matchup for both conferences.
I have been pleased with the peformances of the freshmen at UMW. They show a lot of talent and most importantly finesse.  Their "freshman jitters" will surely show up from time to time, but all in all, they are very impressive. And there are so many of them! Welcome to the boards, ladies! ;)

Mama-
Are you overlooking Kean on December 13? That game should be an early reality check for Mary Washington.
The freshmen are impressive. Lack of depth at post is probably Coach Applebury's biggest challenge.

mamadukes

Ooops!  I assure you, that was just a lapse in the old head. Indeed Kean will be a tough one. They are historically a powerful program and it will be an early test for the Eagles. Keep me in line, bbald.  Clearly, I was not looking at the schedule.  Also another CAC matchup with Hood before the break and the ever present Gulls on Wednesday ;D

bbald eagle

Wow. UMW defeats #1 Kean. I am impressed. Way to go.

I think it is safe to say that the Eagles passed the reality check.  It was a fabulous game to watch. The lead changed nine times in the first half, but in the second it was UMW all the way.
Kean is an incredibly athletic and talented team.    A #1 ranking can be an honor and a burden. EVERYBODY brings their "A" game, and you have no where to go but down.
The season is young.  But today's victory over such a superlative team is something the Eagles should be very proud of.
