This afternoon's game against #9 Simpson should be a reality check for Marymount.

Word from St. Thomas!  The Eagles have landed!
Seriously, the schedule has changed and UMW will be playing RMC TOMORROW evening instead of tonight.

The game schedule for UMW in St. Thomas  is as follows:

Monday, December 29 vs. Montclair State
Tuesday, December 30 vs. Randolph-Macon

Virgin Islands newspaper on the dramatic Montclair State win over UMW:

http://www.virginislandsdailynews.com/index.pl/article_sports?id=17631817

"After a couple turnovers UMW got the ball back and with 4.6 seconds left, Katy Larson was fouled attempting a 3-point shot. She made all three free throws to tie the game back up and force Montclair to throw up a prayer. That they did. Montclair's inbounds pass, which looked like a Hail Mary pass in football, was tipped and nearly went out of bounds. There to recover it though was the Hawks' Jaime Ericson. Ericson took the ball, turned around, and threw up a 3-pointer that swished right through the net and gave the Hawks' their sixth victory of the season."

Truly sounded like a stellar end to the game. Too bad it didn't go the way of the Eagles. Sometimes it's a little difficult to shake off the rust after a long break. They've got to learn that, though.  Probably could have benefited from a few more fans in the stands yelling at/for them!

The Eagles did rebound with the win over Randolph-Macon.

Ashley Reed, Ashton Mitchell and Katy Larson had double digit scoring, but as I said on the ODAC board, I would like to see the play-by-play.  Maybe someone can come up with a copy of the game film ;D

Conference play begins again soon and I know everyone is anxious for that!
I recall too many games with York that came down to the buzzer. They are a forminable team and can't be taken lightly.

Happy New Year!

It sounds like it was an exciting game.

Looks to me like Marymount should reappear in the Top 25 and UMW will stay there as league play is set to resume. York should be the UMW frosh's introduction to how fierce CAC games can be.  Marymount probably won't be challenged again until it visits Fredricksburg.

York almost squeaked into the top 25 too! Adds a little pressure for the UMW/York match, eh? Has the CAC ever had 3 teams in the top 25 at the same time?

bbald eagle

Congratulations to York on its win at UMW. Quite an impressive second half for Keli Ward, and a career high scoring for UMW's Ashton Mitchell.
Horrible 3 point shooting by the Eagles, whose frosh sure got introduced to CAC play.

The intensity with which the Spartans played was the key difference in the win over UMW. Their defense was incredible!   The Spartans were hungry for the win and it showed in every aspect of their play.
One game at a time, Eagles. That's how it must be played, especially in CAC play where every contest prepares you for the tournament.
Move on.

Uhh ... not sure how much prep you're going to get from playing Gallaudet, Stevenson and Salisbury this year. Let's not go overboard.

While I may agree in principle, one fact remains. Every CAC school plays every CAC school twice during the regular season. I WAS referring to the CAC Tournament. I don't believe that is getting ahead of myself.
I apologize if that was not clear.

Marymount, York, and Mary Washington are clustered at 20, 21, and 22 in the Top 25.  :) I wonder if this is this first time 3 CAC teams were in the top 25 at the same time.

It has happened before, in the DIII hoops Poll just not with the same teams. The history is that they are in both the DIII hoops poll and the USA TODAY/ESPN Coaches Poll.

Marymount #21
Catholic #22
UMW #23

That's probably pretty accurate and as I said earlier there should be some very close competitive games in the CAC. Tomorrow's UMW-CUA contest should be great!

Marymount plays both UMW and York this week. By week's end we should have a good idea of whether the top of the CAC is going to shake out early or whether it will remain muddled through the entire season.  Though all 3 teams should be in the Top 25 again in this Tuesday's poll, I doubt there'll be 3 CAC teams in the Top 25 the following week.
