Well we will take it d-mac!!
Personally, I'm glad we're on the other side of the bracket from our CAC counterparts!
I'm just not sure the Big Apple is ready for this country gal, or vice versa :o

Congratulations to all the CAC ladies!

Especially my UMW Eagles!!!!

Great job this season. And they said it was a "rebuilding year'" Tssk Tssk!  ::)

Big news at Welsey as they advance to the ECAC South Women's Basketball Championship!

With FOUR teams in post season play, this has been a banner year for the CAC.

This is my first post and it is obvious that I am a fan of York College.  I was very pleased with the conference selections.  It wasn't really a surprise about Keli Ward.  She is the engine that makes the team go.  April Sparkman isn't a surprise either, but I think she is going to be in for some challenges next year when she is the go to person and she doesn't have Ward getting her the ball.  I am also happy for Chantal Perez and Coach Witman.  I would have liked to seen Amanda Andrews get recognition, but you can't have everything :)

I was disappointed in the CAC championship game, but they got beat by an excellent opponent.  What is really scary is that UMW had at least 4 freshmen that contributed significantly.  That means that UMW is going to be a force for at least 3 more years, even though they will really miss Larson and Mitchell.  Speaking of Mitchell, I have really enjoyed watching her play the last few years.  She is very unselfish and makes everyone around her a lot better (a lot like Keli Ward) even though she isn't  the point guard.  I am sure the knee injury hampered her, but it didn't prevent her from giving 100%.

I know that if I was an employer, I'd love to have young women like Ward and Mitchell on my team.

Best of luck to the Spartans, Eagles and Saints.  Great year for the CAC!

The York women won a very tough game last night.  Balance was the key as eveyone made key contributions, but in my mind the big reason they have a game to play tonight doesn't show up in the box score.  That is the defense played by April Sparkman.  She was absolutely fantastic. She hounded Schweers all night long.  Even though Schweers had her 20 points, 8 of them came while April took a breather for about one minute in the first half (there weren't many breathers after that).  Schweers was frustrated all night and couldn't get any good looks.  She threw up a couple airballs in her frustration and was pushing April all night long.  April was tired in the second half and it took away from her offense, but she didn't lose her focus on defense and in my opinion won the game for  us.  Great defense April!

There were lots of other contributions.  I believe Keli only had one turnover all night and as always distributed the ball to perfection.  We are to the point of just expecting great games from her everynight and she never disappoints.  I was also very impressed with the play of Amanda Andrews, she made some great passes and really took only shots when she had a good look at the basket,  She played a lot better than she did last Saturday.  Chanal had her typical hard nosed game and showed a lot of determination going to the hoop a couple times when things were close.  Jamie Sapp came on down the stretch when we most needed her and continues to improve as the season progresses.  We also got contributions from Amy and Donna and the bench, so all in all a great team effort again led by the defense of April Sparkman.

It looks like we are going to have our hands full tonight.  Baruch really looked good against Cabrini.  One of their players (#10) is probably going to have the assignment to try to stop Keli tonight and she plays tough defense.  If Keli plays her usual gem and doesn't turn the ball over, that will be a key.  But I think we're going to need another team effort to advance. If everyone sticks to their role, we will be fine. Should be a fun game to watch.    Go Spartans!

What can I say about this one.  It was a total TEAM effort.  Chanal kept us in the game early, Keli did her thing, April with another outstanding defensive show, Amanda again hits big shots, Jamie continues to be a force in the paint and the bench makes big contributions.

For anyone out there that enjoys watching team basketball, it just doesn't get better.  I have very good vibes about this group of women.  They have all the parts to take this thing a little bit further.  I was a little bit concerned about our post presence, but Jamie Sapp is really coming into her own.  If she continues to play this way, we are going to be a force to be reckoned with.  We have an All American at the point (my opinion) and even though I'm biased, we have another one with April.  I can't imagine anyone having a much better weekend at both ends of the floor, than she just had.  Chanal brings the toughness and Amanda brings good defense along with her nice shot and some great assists this weekend.  Our bench seems to have someone contribute every night, last night Caitlin and Donna provided sparks. Even when the shots aren't falling the defensive effort is there.  So despite the offensive fireworks, the thing that really excites me is the defense.  Remember ladies, DEFENSE WINS CHAMPIONSHIPS.

I really hope we get to host this weekend.  We have the best record of the 4 teams in our bracket.  I am not sure of the other facilities, but I can't imagine there is anything nicer than Grumbacher.  We also had nice crowds this weekend even though the student body is on break.  Does anyone know when we'll know??

So let's bring on the Lady Royals from the U of S.  Go Spartans!
