BigMac

MMT lost to Hope in a game both teams could have won or lost. MMT shots were off but they stayed in the game with defense. MMT could have won this game and still shot only 23.1% and was out rebounded 46-39. And for the first time I have ever seen they were 4-21 on 3 pointers.

In 27 seasons, Finney's teams compiled a 553-193 overall record, 11 Capital Athletic Conference championships (including the 2010 title) and advanced to the NCAA Division III Tournament 16 times, including 10 trips to the Sweet 16.

What a coaching career!!! All the best Bill, the CAC will not be the same  :'(

Nice story in the Washington Post about the Gallaudet coach and program:

Gallaudet women's basketball coach thrives through extreme hardship

I know its the off season now but again I feel a need to respond to some harsh ctiticism of officials. First off there was a National Invitational Tournament for high schools held in Baltimore MD. The touney included 8 boys teams and 4 girls teams. I know its high school but these teams there were from all over the USA. Me being a person who likes to watch basketball went to Coppin St. to watch the champuionship games. Not sure if anyone knows about this but it was televised live on ESPN and ESPN2. Now you may wonder why I bring this high school tournament up? Well low and behold who is officiating the Championship game being televised live on ESPN2  but JEFF and his SIDEKICK, I think his name is lynn from reading previous posts. The female with them I think I've seen before as well. My point is this, Big mac is always looking for something to say about  these guys being not fair? Even to go as far and say he has talked to their bosses? Well for these 2 to get that game would make me assume that they are doing the right things on and off the floor. This game was on ESPN2 I mean if they were as bad as you say BIG MAC and officiate unfairly then why would they get this game? In case you are wondering Big Mac, the coach from Marymount was not there! In closing I'll say this whatever grudge you have against these 2 officials is not felt by whoever they have as a boss. They seem to get all the premier games whatever the venue is. So it seems like your opinion is only shared by you. Last time I checked opinions were like noses everyone has 1. Anyway have nice off season. My last piece of advice would be try and enjoy the games next season rather than read into something that is not there to the majority!

b-ball, you are right about one thing. We all have opinions.

However, you are wrong about Big-Mac being the only one who complains about certain officials.  He just happens to have the courage to speak his mind in a public forum.

Sorry Big Mac.....I should have spoken up before.  You should know you are not alone. Not by a long shot!!!

To everyone questioning the  calls of D3 referees, i feel that i should add that our mailman in Easton, Pa is a D3 ref on the weekends.  One summer afternoon i hailed him (for our mail), i was mowing the lawn, & VERY jokingly said to him " let the Aggies win"  - the look he gave me, you'd think i'd shot him in the head - i'd bet that 95% of the refs give their absolute best  in calling these games.  Like you said, Mamadukes, just my opinion.

mamadukes

And I wholeheartedly agree with you, Kate.  These folks don't do it to get rich. Like D3 Players and coaches, they do it for the love of the game.

I was told once by an official that there are THREE games going on at the same time:
1-the coaches see
2-the spectators see
3-the officials see and that's the one that they make the calls on

96% of them anyway.

BigMac

Wow b-ball fan, never knew because you get a game on TV it makes you a good referee?? ??? Jeff and Lynn get a lot of games in the area so chances are if you go to many games you will run into them.

I said in the last post that my opinion about Jeff has changed and I think he did a good job this season But my opinion and that of many people about Lynn has not changed and I still say he is a bad referee. One of the biggest problem with Lynn is that the games become all about him and not the players on the floor.

I have talked with his boss several times as I know him and run into him all the time at games. And he has told me that Lynn creates his own problems with the way he acts during games.

My grudge against these 2 is I want them to stop their little games they play during games and just referee the game fairly.

Thanks Mamadukes. I know there are many out there that feel the same way I do.

By the way, my opinion is my opinion, take it or leave it, your choose :-*

OK, it's the off-season, so let's take yet another look at what looks to be the only topic of discussion here.

BigMac on 3/7/10: (Jeff and Lynn)"...work for Finney during the summer in the power's (sic) league he runs.  I believe there is a big conflict of interest with them doing any MMT game."
Four days later, "rorurap"  posts :" "Bill Finney has no organizational  relationship with the Powers Summer League."

BigMac on 2/27/10: "After the game Lynn was over with the MU crowd getting their thanks and kisses from the players. "
mamadukes on 2/27/10:"Maybe I've just missed it in the  500 plus games I've been to, but I've never seen an official whooping it up with ANYBODY."
b-ball fan on 3/6/10: "All I can say is I was there watching the celebration and didn't see anything of the sort."

BigMac on 4/27/10: "I have talked with (Lynn's) boss several times as I know him..."
That should take care of it.  We'll not likely be seeing Lynn again.

BigMac on 3/11/10:  "(Lynn) will manipulate the outcome of a game."
BigMac on 2/27/10: "Too bad because the game was great with a come back almost by UMW. MU started to celebrate too soon so Lynn had to step in and help."

BigMac on 4/27/10:"By the way, my opinion is my opinion, take it or leave it, your(sic) choose."

All choices in life should be as easy as this one.

Again Big Mac? Good lord it is so obvious you have a grudge against these 2 officials! I mean I tell you they on ESPN and you say they do alot of games? No it does not make you a good official to get a TV game but im thinking you must do a good job! Thats all I said because if half what you said was true these 2 offficials would be at the YMCA! You need to take your opinion elsewhere I think. You say they play little games while on floor officiating? You almost make it seem like you are an observer for the conference. Not sure what your backround is but Im sure you have never officiated at any level. Being you have a daughter on UMW taints your view in my opinoion. You keep saying you talk to their bosses? I guess my question to you would be did you talk to their bosses before your daughter was playing at UMW? Im guessing not! It seems to me from what I've read that you happen to know these 2 guys from years past and now that you see them at the college level officiating your daughters games you have a problem with them because of the past. Im just guessing but you said you've seen them around. Unless you have been following UMW games before your daughter played there. Maybe  you have but I doubt it. I have watched more games than you Im sure of that. I would have to assume that officials are graded yearly and get rated. I guess Im sorry you are not a part of the grading. One more thing just because you come to a message board and complain over a grudge does not make you a hero. It almost seems like you get all amped up to complain about games that you daughter plays in. You are looking thru tainted windows. You  sound like just another complaing fan. Like I said before you try officiating since you seem to have all the answers on what is right and wrong. If all you say is true you will have no problem officiating because you already know the BOSSES!

Any word on finding a successor  for Coach Finney at Marymount?  He has had a fabulous career and will be difficult to replace. His program is a strong one and I'm excited to see who inherits it!

What about any potential new life in the CAC in the form of new recruits?

TheGrove

I'm curious too, mamadukes. A lot of his former players are in coaching now, so will they draw from the family?

bbald eagle

Perhaps MMT will name Tara Eddy player/coach?  ;)

York has gotten 2 from Montgomery County- a post player from Georgetown Visitation and a 3-pt shooter from Good Counsel.

mamadukes

I expect that York will improve next year.  With the loss of only one senior, the younger group has had valuable experience this year and most have played significant minutes.

UMW graduates three on Saturday.  Of the nine that remain, five will be juniors and four will be sophomores. They will return the 2009 AND 2010 Rookies of the Year.  I expect them to do well.

Wesley had a breakout season and graduates one.

Can't wait to see what the new season will bring. I know it's early, but this is the time when the players should work their fannies off in preparation for the fall. It'll show if they goof off............always does.
