Preseason Poll #16 Mary Washington's roster is set. There were 2 cuts and 1 red shirted player. They are at 14 on the roster. Both cuts were incoming freshman so no returning players cut. Did have 2 quit from last season before tryouts.

This looks to be a really good year for UMW. With the returning players and new freshman they could be one of the top teams this year. Hopefully they will "Jell" with one another and play as a team.

First scrimmage is Nov. 10 Vs eastern Mennoite.

Not long now.........

Yes its fianlly here. I see some teams played last night. Did anyone see the York game last night. I heard they had some injuries already? Im curious to get to see teams early in their non-conference games to get a feel on which teams look the best. I dont like to go by pre season rankings I like to see the tems play games. Well good luck to your favorite teams.

BigMac

Did not see game but Sparkman is out for this season with torn ACL. That will hurt them. Good thing is she will play next season as a 5th year student

Bammer

Saw the W&L and Mary Washington game.  Great win for the Generals but was that the real Mary Washington team or what?  Their offensive execution was not good.  Martin really was the one shining offensive star.  She put on quite a show in the final few minutes.  It will be interesting to see how the games against Roanoke and Randolph Macon go for you.

BigMac

I was there also, Do not have a clue what happened to UMW??? 4 starters and a freshman point guard but they sure did not do it on offense. Not sure why Dena kept pulling her 2 top scorer out of the game??? If you look at the stats the Freshman point took 13 shots (made 3) McRae and Wimmer took a total of 10 shots. Point guard taking more shots then the 2 top scorers. Martin did very well at the end.

If they keep playing like this it will be a long season But W&L did play well at the end of the first half and the second half to win the game.

Not what I exspected at all

one game is not a season, but ...

let's hope for a quick turn around!  :)

BigMac,
I didn't see the game but I noticed that irregularity in the stats. If you watched that point guard in high school, it would be less surprising to see that pattern - she has always been more of a 1-2 than a true point. It will be interesting to see if that changes under Coach A. In her defense, I also noted that she had 5 assists, almost all of the assists for the team. And the other 4 starters combined were only 2-17 for the game...VERY unusual for a UMW team, and for those players as individuals.
Overall, my impression was that they must have been seriously out of synch. Maybe the coach was as well. I'll bet that won't continue. If I had to put money on it, I would still pick UMW to win the conference.

UMW loses to RMC on Friday 11/19 but come back and win Over Roanoke on Sat. 11/20. They got down 15 at the begining of the game Vs. RMC but came back to make it a close game. Mistakes at the end did them in.

On Sat. played more like what I thought they would. Still having some mistakes but played more like a team. The post (Dye) stepped up and had a good game. same for McRae and Wimmer. Partonen took less shots and got the ball to the shooters more. Martain did a great job and is now a starter.

Got another tough game on Tuesday 11/23 Vs Shenandoah hope they build on their last game.

The bench needs to contribute more when they get in, they are getting chances to play more but need to step it up!!

bbald eagle

UMW at 1-2; Marymount at 0-3; Hood at 3-0. Not the usual, for sure.
