Heartstopping is right!!  I'm almost glad I wasn't there.  I would have been passed out between the bleachers with that ending!  Go Eagles!!!!!

Congrats to York and UMW on the Sweet 16. York dominated a very good Juniata team (don't let the 9 point margin fool you, it was a 19 point game when York subbed out the starters). York averaged 88 points per game in their last two games and shot 66% against Juniata. Those battles with Mary Washington during the CAC season has served the Spartans well during the NCAA Tournament. Now on to Amherst for the Spartans and a date with the #1 Lord Jeffs.
Good luck to both squads in the Sweet 16.

Congrats & good luck to York. Nice to have 2 CAC teams in the Sweet 16. Looks likes UMW gets to host the rounds of 16 and 8. Go Eagles.

Did you hear for certain that UMW will host?

The NCAA has to fly teams that are 500 miles away from a sectional site.  Here's the mileage to UMW from the other three participants:

Leb Val: 187
Bowdoin: 621
George Fox: 2,886

Here's the mileage to Leb Val:
UMW: 186
Bowdoin: 496
Georg Fox: 2,808

Bowdoin is right on the fringe of being able to drive to Leb Val by the NCAA's guidelines. So the NCAA could put the sectional there and only fly one team.

gordonmann

So much for that theory. George Fox fans are making plans to go to Arlington. UMW hosts.

According to this: https://web1.ncaa.org/TES/exec/miles

Bowdoin  is 496 miles away from Leb Valley, which falls below the 500 mile mark.  GF will have to fly anywhere to matter where the sectional is, but if it's in Leb Valley the NCAA only has to fly 1 in (George Fox), but if it's at Mary Washington the NCAA will have to fly 2 (Bowdoin & GF)

GMann - Yep. It was on the brackets on the NCAA website.
If George Fox goes to Arlington, VA, though they'll be a good distance from UMW & have to fight I-95 Friday traffic to drive to Fredericksburg. ;-)

hoopstermom

GMann - Don't know what cost different would be, but is easier drive north to Fredericksburg from Richmond if you fly into Richmond International Airport.  Way better than dealing with DC traffic.  Campus is half way between either city.

bbald eagle or anyone else, any idea when tix might be available?

So the penny-pinching suits from Indianapolis decided to ease their pinch and fly two teams instead of one. Great! talk about logic, consistency, and financial responsibility ....

Oops! Sorry.  I got UMW and Marymount's geographic location confused.

Pat Coleman

Yeah, Warren. The only thing I can really think of is perhaps they had a budget as to how many teams they could fly, and having used three the first weekend, plus Tufts and George Fox, perhaps they had one more they could spring for.

Somewhere, Bill Finney is smiling.  :)

Pat Coleman

Bill still follows Division III basketball very closely, by the way!

Just out of curiosity, who is Bill Finney?
