Can't figure out why Gettysburg is getting CNU in the 1st round of their pod; CNU is the strongest of the 4 teams. Gettysburg is probably hosting because Westfield is too far from CNU but they should be playing the #3 seed instead of the #1 seed.

I don't know about that.....the regional rankings before selection had Gettysburg ranked higher (3rd) than CNU (7th)  in Mid-Atlantic. And I know it is difficult to compare across regions but Mount Saint Mary is #2 in their region.

Can't wait for Friday!

I still think MSMC drawing Westfield State is the D3 equivalent of a 12 seed facing a 16 seed in the D1 tournament. Mount-CNU and Gburg-WSC would have made more sense to me.

The CNU coach said that the committee must have thought CNU was the worst of the four...nothing like a little extra motivation!

As a member of the RAC, Coach Broderick advised the bracketers thusly, but I'm not surprised that he brought it to the attention of his team that they are considered as 4th seed by 'them'.   ::)

Not a chance ... he knows full well that isn't the case even looking at the bracket.

He barely advised the "bracketers." He was off the call when his team was discussed. He voted at some point. He then was removed from the conversation for the finalization of those rankings and never was part of the final rankings being created.

He is spinning it to give his team something to talk about.

Mount was considered the "top" team in this bracket. We know that they would have been hosting if they had put in to host. Their coach told us on Hoopsville Monday evening that they did NOT put in to host due to their facilities being booked for something else.

So the "top" team in this pod according to the national committee is Mount St. Mary. That, rightly, makes Westfield State the lowest ranked team. An Owls team that was NOT regionally ranked.

The simple fact they are not regionally ranked makes them the lowest considered team in this grouping.

They are the same .. he is misusing the term "NCAA." He is the "NCAA" as well since he is on a RAC.

And I think he is completely misunderstanding that pod. Again, he would have disconnected after getting his work done Sunday morning. But based on information we have #gleaned ... and based on what is OBVIOUS ... Westfield is the lowest "ranked" team in that pod. There is no way to look at it any other way. Just because they are playing Gettysburg at Gettysburg does NOT indicate CNU is the lowest ranked team.

When the committee brackets and discover their anticipated host can't host, they tend to shift it elsewhere in the pod if possible. That means it goes to Gettysburg, but they didn't change the structure of the pod as a result. MSM is clearly considered the highest ranked team in that four-some and is playing the non-ranked Westfield team. Gburg and CNU are the next two and playing each other.

Makes sense to me, Dave...thanks for the explanation/commentary.

Even though Mount St. Mary received the top seed in this pod, Massey would easily have them as the lowest, likely because of their abysmal strength of schedule, which I think will be exposed this weekend.

Yes... MSM probably wouldn't be a #2 in the Mid-Atlantic ... it is another flaw to what I think the committee did here and with MSM getting in. I see why they would be considered a host, but I also don't agree with it nor with them being in, maybe.

Not bad, eh?  To date, Coach Broderick is 15-5 in the NCAA Tournament w/CNU...and what's even more impressive is that only 4 of those 20 games have been at home.

I run in to Coach Broderick frequently at AAU tourneys each year as we evaluate prospects; the first year that he became CNU's coach I came across him(not knowing him at that time) and saw what looked like CMU on his shirt. Since I had some prospects who chose Carnegie-Mellon instead(including eventual national POY Lisa Murphy), I asked him. He said: No, it was Christopher Newport, not Carnegie-Mellon.
Looking forward to next match on Friday.

Neat story...Friday will be tough for CNU...they didn't fare so well last time.

The front page has a nice piece on the Lady Captains...a huge "get back" opportunity for the seniors, but they'll have to play really well.
