You pick your ratings.........I'll pick mine...........

Pick whatever you like, but the one I linked has an actual track record. Yours has never proven anything.

Time will Tell.......
I may not always be Right........But I'm never Wrong!

You might think UMW is getting screwed, but Scranton has a proven track record while UMW is relatively new this high up (though still unbeaten). UMW is still getting first place votes, though I thought they would be getting one or two more (from Scranton) this week. However, Scranton was in last year's Final Four... UMW was a second-rounder. Those things are considered when it comes to the Top 25.

Oh, it really doesn't matter anyway... to make a dent in the first place votes, they have to come from Southern Maine's votes... and even after watching UMW myself, I can't say they are better than the Polar Bears.

what does last years team have to do with this year......new players, graduates, etc.........seems like you are biased against a very good CAC team......Scranton had their shot in the Final Four last year and blew it.......and you expect them to be back?????? UMW desreves a little more credit than you are giving them.....

Besides, D Mac go put on your glasses......you're on the wrong board.....this is the "Mighty Atlantic".....not the "Middle Atlantic" !!!!!!

Pat Coleman

D-mac is from your conference. I am sure he knows full well what board he's on.

I do know the board... I have posted here before... and I think very highly of the UMW Women (ask Clint, ask all those who have listened to Hoopsville when I have talked about them - even the interview with Coach Applebury).

However, I can understand why UMW is not getting the "respect" you feel they deserve. I disagree that just because Scranton "got their chance" doesn't mean they aren't still that good. They have one loss... early in the season to what has proved to be a tough CUA team. But, the voters are certainly more in favor of USM - which was at the Final Four last year as well. Should we demote the Polar Bears as well since they have had their CHANCES!!!

UMW has never been this far in a season undefeated. They are playing in a confusing conference (the CAC can sometimes be really good, or subpar). And unless you go an actually beat Scranton, the chances of those two votes swing your way without a Scranton loss... or probably very slim.

Just enjoy the fact that the Eagles are undefeated and actually ranked in the Top 5. The three of teams above UMW are yearly powers, always at the top. UMW is brand new!

I can not believe that the individual responsible for putting together the top 25 (Pat Coleman) can say that a teams "track record" in previous years has an impact on where they are placed in the following years standings.  That is ridiculous. If a team is undefeated this year, but lost in the second round of the NCAA's last year, that should not matter. Yes Scranton,Southern Maine,  and Washington U are legitamite top-quality programs, year after year, but Mary Washington is the best team in D3 at this moment. They should definitely be ranked ahead of Washington U. I also saw Scranton play twice, and saw UMW three times. Mary Washington is a better team, no doubt.. They find ways to win, and play excellent team basketball.
The CAC as well as the NJAC in previous years do not get any true respect from D3 Hoops in my opinion. Our Atlantic regions top teams would beat many, and I mean many, of D3 Hoops Top 25 on any given night!! Wake up and put UMW where they belong, at the TOP!

Matt Letourneau

NJAC,
Pat Coleman said no such thing--D-Mac did.  I don't know if he's a voter or not (he may be), but regardless I think he was probably alluding to the fact that certain teams get elevated thanks to their reputations, fair or not.

I don't know if UMW is the best team in the country, or not...probably not.  My initial argument (ironic that a CUA guy actually started this) though is that if you're going to have a poll, it doesn't seem logical to me to put an undefeated team behind a team that's lost to a team that the undefeated team beat twice. Just doesn't make much sense to me.  And I would note that the CUA-Scanton game was more like the first CUA-UMW game than the second one---not all that close.  Judging from the 2nd game, I would put CUA on the same par as UMW (either team could have one in the second game, not so the first--and also not so for the CUA-Scranton game).

Just seems unfair that UMW is behind Scranton.  However, the voters probably have perfectly legitimate questions about whether such a young team can really go deep in the tournament.  I have those same questions, but I didn't think they could go undefeated, either.

Polls have limited value--the year Catholic won the National Championship on the men's side, they weren't even in the top 10 (in fact I'm not even sure they were top 15) going into the tournament.

I apologize to Pat.. My comments are for D-Mac..

Let me add my two cents.Mary Washington is probably a good team but don`t compare them anywhere near Scranton.Look at scheaduling first M.W teams they played this year wins 145 losses 159 -6 teams over .500 the rest all below .500 and by the way how many top 25 teams have you beaten. Now lets get to the Lady Royals scheaduling wins 212 losses 122,teams over .500 13  teams under .500 3.top 25 teams Scranton beat 3.And matt when Catholic beat Scranton it was the 3rd game of the season Catholic wouldn`t have a chance to even shine there sneakers now.

Matt Letourneau

Yeah well that's basketball. You don't always get a do-over...the easiest thing in the world is to say is that 'if we played them now...'  Yeah, well you don't.  So we have one game to go on.

And it might not have occured to you, but Catholic's gotten better too.

I'm not arguing that Scranton isn't better than Mary Washington, I don't know.  But at some point, you have to honor the undefeated season, particularly when it includes 2 wins against a team that a one-loss team lost to.

You'll get your chance to prove it on the court eventually, anyway.

uofs

Matt it might happen again in the playoffs.I would love to see Middle Atlantic vs Atlantic and then time will tell. I would put my money on the Lady Royals.

I find it hard to think that a top 5 ranking is "screwing" a team or showing a lack of respect for it.
The top 4 teams are ranked as the top 1% of the teams in D3.

BBaldy,

How can you say that uofs is not showing disrespect for UMW, Catholic, and the CAC....he first writes that UMW can't compare to Scranton, quotes some Boloney stats, and than finishes with Catholic couldn't even shine sneakers!!!!!

uofs needs to sober up and slither on back to the "Middle of the Pack" Atlantic Board....and just pray that a CAC team doesn't meet Scranton early in the NCAA playoffs...

My comment addressed Mary Washington's ranking in the top 5,  not uofs's rant or Scranton
