Sorry for the delay on this
The 19th ranked University of Mary Washington women's basketball team used a stifling defense and balanced scoring in an 85-43 win over Catholic University on Tuesday at goolrick Gymnasium. The Eagles, winners of 10 straight, are now 14-2 on the season, and 6-1 in CAC play.
Catholic jumped out to an early lead, holding a 10-5 lead just three minutes into play. But UMW would limit the Cardinals to just six points in the remaining 17 minutes of the half, while scoring 43 points from that point.
The Eagles were led for the third straight game by junior guard Sarah Flanagan, who scored 13 points, and sophomore guard Katy Larson, who had 12 on 4-4 shooting. Debbie Bruen had nine points and seven rebounds, and Liz Hickey had eight points and six blocked shots, with Ashton Mitchell and Lisa Tracy scoring eight apiece as well. Catholic was led by Shea Macdonald's nine points.
The Eagles continued their torrid shooting, shooting 55.4% from the floor in the game (31-56), making 8-18 three pointers and 15-16 free throws. The Eagles limited Catholic to 26.4% shooting, including 4-22 shooting in the first half.

Catholic has a downbeat summary of the Mary Washington/Catholic game on its website

http://www.cuacardinals.com/sports/wbkb/2006-07/news/12307_game17

It makes an interesting point. "Despite the big win, Mary Washington didn't have a standout with 13 players scoring." Even though its got two All-Americans, everybody on UMW's team is averaging under 23 minutes a game but they put up some impressive numbers for the time they play. Sarah Flanagan, UMW's higher scorer against CUA with 13 also played the most minutes - 23.  Catholic had 4 players at 27 minutes or more. The most any of those four scored last night was 7. UMW's Bruen, Flanagan, Bates, Mitchell, Larson, and Tracy each scored 8 or more. Every UMW player scored.

Glad to see bisonpride posting again. Welcome back.

bbald eagle - Thanks! I will try my best to posting up here more often soon. I tend to be on other side of the board often to posting up the men's team.

Tomorrow, Gallaudet women (2-13, 0-7) will host Hood College (1-13, 1-3 AWCC) at 6pm. To remind you all that it is non-conference game. Hood women, unlike the men, will join CAC next year instead of this season.

Yes it is good to see bisonpride back and posting, mwcsid keep up the posting, as bisonpride pointed out the men's board gets more attention  ??? ........... maybe if atnwriter posted here we might get more posts!!!  :o ;D :o

bbald eagle

it looks like Hood is a winnable game, bisonpride. Good luck. The Marymount game at Mary Washington tonight is for the CAC lead.

Well hi there, baldereagle...I appreciate you requesting my presence  :D

Seriously speaking, looks like MWC is seriously thumping teams these days...for those of us New Englanders, how does this squad compare to last yrs (MWCSID, feel free to respond...)

mwcsid

Well, as the recently departed Big Tuna once said, "We are what our record is". ;D

That said, I think this year's team is probably better than last year's. While losing Olinger to graduation was a big loss, especially early (with those two losses), having nine of the top ten players returning with an additional year of experience has to make them better. My only hope is that when the shots aren't falling, we continue to get tougher.

Hey atnwriter thanks for stopping bye, come back soon!!

Marymount at Mary Washington usually proves to be a good game, Coach Finney seems to bring out the best in his Team at Goolrick Gym, first place in the CAC is tonights menu!!  ;D
