Interesting to see how the Spartans continue to evolve without the services of their do-it-all point guard Keli Ward.

How serious is it? She's at least the third good player to go down this season with Marymount's Tara Eddy and CUA's Kristen Linderoth also out.

Looks like Keli Ward is OK after all, seems she played 27 minutes in Yorks win over Salisbury today 73-59. With 11 points, 2 steals, 1 blocked shot, 5 boards and 4 assists it is good to see Keli is up and playing!!

Goes to show what I know :) Keli dressed, to everyone surprise including Coach Witman's, warmed up, felt good and played 27 minutes. Hopefully, she won't be too sore tomorrow.

The Spartans are a totally different team with her on the floor. It was a great team effort and it's always good to protect your home court.

Great to see Ashton Mitchell and Lisa Tracy stepping up their games off the bench these past weeks.
Moving forward, games with Bridgewater this Tuesday and York on Saturday may well just provide playoff atmosphere. UMW EAGLES!!   :o :o

A great out of conference OT win for Mary Washington against a top ODAC team.  Bridgewater had 5 players in double figures and was 19 of 20 from the free throw line. The heart of their team is their point guard, Katy Herr Lovell. UMW had three in double figures, Debbie Bruen with 23 and 10 rebounds, Sarah Flanagan with 16, and Amanda Bates with 17.

The game was a see-saw with the score often tied. Bridgewater led by 5 with about a minute and a half to go. UMW tied it and went ahead at around 30 seconds on a pair of Bruen free throws. Hickey made one of two free throws about ten seconds later to extend it to two point lead, but fouled out near the buzzer and Herr Lovell made both free throws to tie it and send the game to OT which UMW dominated for the win.

I was very impressed with MWU watching them play my BC Eagles last night. They are a very good team and have a lot of depth. I was very impressed with Debbie Bruen. It was a fun game to watch as both of these teams fought very hard in an exciting game!

Congrats to Deb Bruen as she has passed the school's career free throw record at UMW, raising her career total to 329 made and breaking the record previously held by Lindsay Stover from 1994-98.

Tonight's most interesting CAC match is Marymount (7-2, CAC) at Catholic (5-4, CAC). CUA needs a win or it will be fighting with Salisbury to stay out of the bottom half of the league in its final CAC season. Marymount needs a win to stay in the hunt for the #1 seed which is unlikely to happen anyway given its pair of losses to UMW. The CUA website's schedule page

has a link for live stats for the 6 p.m. game
