D3 Hoops will do a preseason ranking. So will the WBCA/ESPN. Most of the discussion on Posting Up will be on the Top 25 board which is under Multi-Regional Topics for women's basketball.

Sarah Flanagan, who started for Mary Washington last season until she injured her knee, isn't playing this year. The team continued to do well after her injury and there are a lot of real quality players returning, but she still will be missed as will Bruen who graduated.

Mary Washington is #8 in the preseason USA TODAY ESPN DIVISION III TOP 25 COACHES' POLL, the only one of last year's Final Four teams that isn't now in the top 4. No other CAC team got any votes.

UMW #1 in D3Hoops preseason poll, the only one of last year's Final Four teams that is now in the top 4. This could prove very interesting.

Yes it will be most interesting, UMW has worked for the ranking the past four years. This is now a new era with a team that is returning all it's players, minus Bruen, that played in The Final Four. UMW will also miss Flannigan's presence on the court. Go Eagles....

Ahh, my good old Bald Eagles... Good to be back.
Congrats ladies on the #1 ranking, the first ever for any sport in Mary Washington history. Earn it with your play.

Really? Doesn't UMW have some walnut and bronze to its credit in some sport?

My preseason picks

1. UMW
2. Marymount
3. York
4. Salisbury
5-8. A jumble of the 3 newbies to the CAC plus St. Mary's
9. Gallaudet

Three new teams, and three other schools with new coaches.

flip flop York and Marymount, York will win a tie-breaker beating UMW once  :o

York beat Mary Washington once early last year, I don't see Deena letting that happen again. I thought last year York should have jumped over Marymount but it didn't so I don't think it will this year. Coach Finney seems to dominate York pretty good so I go with Marymount for second.

bbald -
last year you predicted York ahead of Marymount -- just what has changed that caused you to switch gears?   ???

With Daly and Ward, York should have gotten over the hump last year and beat Marymount. They didn't. Marymount had some good freshmen last year who should be better this year so York will have a harder time beating them this year. So I go with Marymount for second in the CAC this season. Why do you choose York over Marymount?

We do have two NCAA titles in women's tennis, but neither were seeded first, and there were no in-season polls for tennis back then. So it is the first time we've been ranked first in any poll, but we have finished first before.

After losing 3 times to Marymount last year, being less intimidated this season and with a more mature team, York will set things right. When on they execute better than Marymount. Keli Ward ended last season recovering from an injury.

I am almost as partial to ycp as I am mwcsid  :)

York:

"The expectations for this year's edition of the Spartans are simple. Earn the school's first women's basketball Capital Athletic Conference championship and make their first NCAA Tournament appearance in the history of the program. Simple goals to state, difficult to accomplish.  'I believe this team is the deepest and most complete that I have had in my tenure at York,' states Witman."

Marymount:

"Last year Marymount lost the conference championship to the team that eventually finished #3 in the nation. That left the Saints feeling unsatisfied."
