UMW: CAC Champions

To the dance again! 5th season in a row!

:)

btw,

very nice broadcast, Mr. d-mac. thanks.

YCPandemonium

Congrats to UMW, but its ashame that the York women will not receive something for their trophy case after such an incredible season. Im partial of course, but they were the strongest team in the CAC this season and a 3 game tournament does not do justice to this championship caliber squad.

Keep your heads up lady Spartans! The season ain't over yet!!

Agreed Pandemonium!
What a fabulous season for the Spartans!

In 2006, UMW went the entire regular season undefeated.  27-0 going into the Championship game of the CAC. They fell to Marymount and finished with a 29-2 record ending in the Sweet Sixteen.

Katy Larson, Kaitie Clarkin and Ashton Mitchell were freshmen and they've never forgotten the loss to Marymount. It has been a part of their entire college career. Fuel to the fire.

Eight Freshmen
Three Juniors
Three Seniors-only ONE returning starter
A Coach that won't accept anything less than a player's full effort, insisting that each one lives up to their  potential.
CAC Tournament CHAMPIONS!

Congratulations UMW Eagles! ;D

Mama loves you ALL! :o

I hope nobody counts out UMW come tournament time...a couple losses in the conference doesn't mean much when it comes time for one and done--and while the bulk of the team may be freshman the eagles have some strong leaders who know how to win in the tournament.

guess I would have to say I called that one!
Congrats UMW  :)

mamadukes

I would say you did!! :D

congrats to UMW, very much deserved, they just played better then YCP yesterday...however, If you ask me who I feel is more tourney ready out of the two, not even a question. Yes UMW is a very good team, looked very impressive yesterday, but a 16-0 conference season, and a 25 game win-streak speaks volumes. Not to mention YCP boasts a Josten's finalist in Ward, and possibily a future Jostens finalist in super soph April Sparkman, and then have 4 other experienced seniors in their rotation. On top of all that, I hope you do not mind me taking your words mamadukes, but "fuel to the fire" is think is the perfect definition of the loss yesterday for YCP. I would not want to be whoever YCP is matched with in the first round of NCAA's. Best of luck to both teams, I have enjoyed watching them both. I feel there going to have to go through eachother to advance in the NCAA's. May the best team win.

Mary Washington has seasoned Tournament Players, an important factor in thier success at Marymount and again yesterday at York. The Freshman stepped up during the CAC Tournament, another huge factor. Will be interesting to see how far they go in this years NCAA. Congrats Lady Eagles (again :)..) .......... York, welcome to 'the dance'  and and congtrats on your fabulous season. May both teams represent the CAC well!

Sportsnut, I agree with you that I would HATE to be the next team up for York!! Ward is, and always has been, a phenomenal player. I too, have enjoyed watching her play....most of the time  ;)

Since the ways of the "Committee" seem to be so mysterious, it will be interesting to see how the brackets play out. I may not agree, but last time I looked, I don't have a whole hell of a lot to do with it and I certainly can't change it.

Since I appear to be agreeable today, I will also agree with bbald.  Experience rests with the leadership of the Eagles, and the seniors and juniors have ALL been to the NCAA tournament for each and every year of their careers at UMW.

That has to count for something.

That being said, I think that both CAC teams are certainly battle tested. I hope they BOTH go deep into the tournament!

March Madness has begun!

CACsportsnut

So who hosts from the region you think? York and Messiah?

HighestThreadCount

UMW is about as tournament ready as they come.  They have four players who have been to the NCAA tournament and three conference titles under their belt.  They have experience playing on the road and they understand the level of play that comes with the NCAA tournament.

Best of luck to all the CAC teams!

Best of luck to all the CAC teams!

Soon we'll learn if Marymount joins the party too.  3 would be nice, especially if the NCAA doesn't keep them all together at one site.

THREE  Count em  THREE to the BIG DANCE FROM THE CAC!!!!!!!!!!!!!
York
Mary Washington ;D
Marymount

Sorry d-Mac ;)

TheGrove

Wow! Congrats CAC (especially my old crew at Marymount)!

Dave 'd-mac' McHugh

You don't have to apologize to me! I am surprised Marymount got in - but I also disagreed with the fact the projections had it that way as well. I think the thing the entire conference should be thankful about is the fact that no CAC team could possibly meet until the Elite 8 at the earliest (YCP and Marymount). Not many conferences get that kind of "love" and I think it might be an unintended gift.
