b-ball fan

You know i should let this go but I wont. I am just a fan who likes watching good basketball. I must say that the total fascination that mary Wash fans seem to have towards officials is rediculous. I watch a ton of games and must say no other message boards center around the officials. I was at the marymout vs. Mary Wash. game. I will be the first to say that is was a great game. The officials (whoever they were) did an outstanding job in that game. Now that being said I am in no way a person qualified to even judge officials. I'm also pretty certain that whoever you are Big Mac that you are not qualified either. Whoever the officials were in that game you say (Jeff and Lynn) in no way were responsible for the outcome of that game. I think I've seen them before on games of magnitude. It would seem to me that whoever they are they are doing the right things to get in those games. Im just tired of hearing how its the officials fault. I think you seem to forget they are human. Now I could be wrong you might be qualified to speak on their officiating ability, but being you have a daughter on Mary Wash. it seems like you are being very biased. I think sometimes as fans we need to take a step back and look in the mirror, and if you dont like what you see on the floor then look into officiating yourself. There was also another quote that the officials were "whopping" it up? All i can say is I was there watching the celebration and didnt see anything of the sort.  Now congrats to Mary Wash and Marymount on their 1st round wins, and I hope they both continue to do well because they are good teams.

UMW's McCrae scores 8 in the last 1:14 of regulation as UMW rallies to force OT with Rochester. 50-50 .

Rochester wins in OT over UMW, 61-54.  :'(

BigMac

b-ball fan I too should let this go but same as you I will not. I never said we lost because of the referee's. I'm tired of having these 2 referee's evertime we play MMT. They work for Finney during the summer in the power's league he runs. I beleive there is a big conflict of interest with them doing any MMT game. Now I have to say my opionion of Jeff has changed this season. He is a good ref and I think he did a fine job everytime I saw him this season.

But Lynn is a different story. I have seen him over the years at different places besides College games. I have seen him at many AAU games and It's all about HIM. He has to be the center on what is going on. He makes calls that have not been called all game. Does he win games for teams? No, Does he help teams with his call? Absolutly. I see it over and over with him.

Never said Whooping it up but if you were at the game and saw what he was doing you to would think it was fishy. A referee should NEVER go over to a team after a game and act as he did after this game. Players were going up and giving him hugs. Parents patting him on the back and talking with him. Did it mean anything? Who knows. Did it look like it meant anything, absolutly. So much so that when someone started taking pictures Jeff ran over to get Lynn out of there.

The 2 calls he made at the end(touch fouls) were not called all game but both were with 5-8 sec. left on the shot clock. It gave MMT 30 more sec. to run out the clock on UMW. Did not win the game but sure did help MMT.
Your right you do not know me, I have coached for many years and I do have the right to call an orange an orange

UMW had a great season this year. These players and coaches should hold their heads high and proud for what they have done. Being so young and still going to the NCAA tournament. Winning their first game over the #8 seed was just unbeleivable and what a game it was to watch. In the second game Vs Rochester they did not play as well but never gave up and were able to tie it up and had a chance to win it in regulation but did not get the shot. Rochester is a very good team and I wish them all the best for the rest of the tournament.

Marymount is still in it and has made it to the sweet 16. I wish them the best also next weekend.

Can not wait till next year, Go EAGLES!!!

RE: Le Big Mac and the " Big Conflict of Interest"

Bill Finney has no organizational relationship with the Powers Summer League.  He is NOT allowed to. It is operated, managed, administered by someone else who selects referees from who is available and interested in working those games.  Powers Summer League rents the Marymount facility.  You'll have to ask the Powers League guy why he rents there, how he selects the referees etc.  I would imagine you could ref there too.

"Touch fouls".  Actually if more fouls were called on MWash they would have put MMt into the 1 and 1, sooner.
The only player in foul trouble throughout the game was MMT's Brown.

AAU.  Yes these guys do AAU games too, all the way down to the 12 and Unders.

I have seen them doing Maryland State championship games too.  Gosh they are everywhere and someone that is involved/ follows girls basketball in the greater DC area as much as you are, will see them over and over again.

MaryWash AD and Coach can discuss referee assignments and issues with the CAC commissioner/ Director of Referees.

Fnney's retirement will take him off your radar. You may have to make some adjustments to handle your referee issues.

And this is what I am talking about. The fouls that he called at the end were not called ALL game. If they had many more on UMW and MMT would have been in foul trouble.

I talked with his bosses before and they even say he is nothing but a "problem" and there are always issues with him.

My "issue" is with 2 referee's but as I said The one I made a bad judgement on and I think he is doing a fine job. I really only have issues with Lynn. You should not even know that referees are there. They are to control the game and enforce the rules of the game. Watch Lynn, how he looks at the crowd to see who is saying what, talks with people during the game and will confront people during the game. And will manipulate the outcome of a game.

We'll be working with the NCAA on its video broadcast of Friday and Saturday's games at Illinois Wesleyan.  You can find those broadcasts here:

If you're at the game and see a pale, skinny, balding guy, feel free to come up and say hello. If it's me, I'll say hello back. :)
