UMW at 1-2; Marymount at 0-3; Hood at 3-0. Not the usual, for sure.

The post-Finney era not off to such a good start, eh?

BigMac

UMW gets a big win over Shenandoah. Start off strong and never look back. Looking more and more how I thought they would. Need to keep it up with the 2 loses at the begining of the season.

MMU having a tough time. I think they have a lot of injuries. Hood, York and Salisbury all starting off strong.

Keep it up UMW!!!!

Hood falls back to earth at Shenandoah who lost to UMW last week.

Marymount at Mary Washington Saturday - still the league's premier matchup?

BigMac

We will have to see as it seems like MMU is down this year but I have not seen them play so I would exspect a really good game. UMW is starting to get it together as a team. They need more from all their post. They play well then they do not play well. Needs to be better for UMW to be a really good team.

The start of the season was not good but down the road a bit it might just help them, we will see.

The top 5 teams in the CAC standings have been in the league for years. The bottom 4 have joined the league in the last several years.

It'll be interesting to see if this holds true throughout the season.

Well is Marymount and Mary Washington still the premier matchup? Acoording to Big Mac Marymount was down this year. Also according to Big Mac Mary Washington was going to do big things this year. It looks to me like Marymount has sustained a bunch of injuries and Mary Wash is not as good as they have been. I will say this Saturdays game vs these 2 teams was exciting and did not dissapoint. It was a tough game for either side to lose. Both teams played well, not quite as well as in years past but just as intense. It was nice to see the post finney marymount team play well vs their rival. It is just as nice to not hear about officiating being the "reason" mary wahington lost! AKA FINNEY FAVORS. Tough loss for Mary washington but Im sure they will rebound and and go on to play well the rest of the year. Congrats to Marymount on the win.

Hard to tell. May be more parity in the top half of the league than in the recent past.

Both teams played ... not quite as well as in years past ...
And this may be the reason that parity arrives.

BigMac

b-ball fan, Also said that I had not seen them yet so we will see, If you are going to Quote me please show all of what I said. I did think UMW was going to be a very good team this season but you are right in they are not doing well. I agree it was a very good game and would have been a disapointment for both team to lose. MM got the shot off.

I will say this that UMW did not play well so to be able to keep it close was good to see. They are a much better team then they are playing right now and I just hope they can get it together before the season is over.

UMW has an opportunity today. Playing at #7 Christopher Newport at 2. Video and stats available at CNU site.

BigMac

UMW did not do well at CNU today. Started off the game well but their shooting went cold again. Scored 21 points the first 10 min. of the game but could not score again the rest of the half. Not great defense by CNU as we had many good/open shots just did not hit them.

In the second half CNU continued to score and UMW keep up the misses. It was more of the same open/good shots just could not get them to go in. CS of CNU started getting her shots to fall and the game just got away from UMW. CNU is a good team and is deserving of the #7 ranking (Might be even higher) but I was at the game and it was more UMW not shooting well Vs. CNU playing great defense.

If you look at the play by play you will see CS had 14pts. the last 4:45 of the game to get her total up to the 27 she had for the game. So she had 13 pts. the first 35:05 of the game. UMW did a good job on her till the last 4:45. She is a very good shooter and you have to play good defense for 40:00 on her or she will end up with the points at the end.

I saw St. Mary's tonite against Scranton. Consider them a work in progress with only 1 upperclassman on the team. Still, they've already won 3 CAC games and could be a factor even this year. Realistically though, they need another year of players to contend at the top.

BigMac

The good thing for St. Mary's is they have more players this season over the last few. I think they only had 8 players last year. I think you are right in they could be a factor this season. UMW play them next Wed. should be a good game

Anybody know why the non-CAC games Marymount had scheduled for this week were canceled?

beltsh97

Both were cancelled due to supposed lack of healthy players, although i see they played with 7 this past saturday
