91 days till UMW's first game of the season at W&L. Two players are 10 points short to reach 1000 for their careers at UMW, McRae and Wimmer

BigMac

Practices start Oct. 15 for UMW. They have about 18 trying out for the team. should be a very interesting year for UMW. Hopefully it will be better then last year. They won the conference but with the loss to Wesley in the tournament did not make the NCAA tour for the first time in 6 years and that left a very bad feeling with this team and coach.
Applebury is due any day now with her first child so the begining of the season will be interesting. But knowing her she will be out there coaching sooner then most think.
UMW getting Martin and Woehkner back this season from injury's. Only Carlezon graduated and Overholt & Maksanty quit the team. McRae, Wimmer, Brooks and Martin have played together for 4 years now so that should help this team. With the play of Dye, Matthes, Partonen, Diop and Jones they should be strong off the bench. Plus hopefully a freshman will step up and be able to contrubute.
Can not wait for Nov. 15 Vs. Washington & Lee. Last season for my daughter (which really sucks, last year to watch her play) Should be able to get to most the games this year also.

Strong teams this season:
UMW
York
Marymount
Wesley & frostburg

New coaches at:
St. Mary's
Hood
Salisbury
Stevenson

One nit-picking observation: Dye and Partonen each started 25 games last year - not likely that they will be coming off the bench, IMHO.  :)
I think UMW is the team to beat this year in the CAC. I am not sure that Marymount will be a serious contender; they seem to be rebuilding. Only one close-to-full-time starter back from last year. I don't know anything about their recruiting success, though, so I'm just guessing.

BigMac

Brookland you are so right. Poor wording on my part. Starters should be McRae, Wimmer, Dye, Partonen and Martin but with Brooks, Diop, Matthes, Jones coming off the bench play should not drop with Subs. Have not seen any of the incoming freshman so really do not know what we are getting but I'm real excited about this season.

Can not wait to see the new gym at UMW

No CAC pre-Season All-Americans; not much from the entire area, though Muhlenburg's Alex Chili's a solid Third Team pick and from suburban DC.

BigMac,

Good luck to your daughter and enjoy every minute this year, it just goes to quick! I am now going through basketball withdraw, since my daughter finished her career last year.

bbald eagle, in the D III news they have several UMW players as preseason all-americans:
Jenna McRae - UMW
Katie Wimmer  HM- UMW

Not really a big deal as the preseason awards are all opion of how a player will play this season.

I think the team is picked and ready to go. Only a few cuts, only 1 from last season. Looking forward to the game Vs. Washington & Lee on Nov. 15

bbald eagle

Congrats to them, Big Mac!
It may be that "the preseason awards are all opinion of how a player will play this season" but if done properly they are more than just that: they are also an evaluation and reflection of how the player played last season.

I only see one UMW player a a preseason All-American on that team:

Pat, Attached is the paper I have and it has a list of Honorable Mentions. That is where Katie Wimmer is listed. You are correct that only Jenna McRae is listed under "Top 24 selections"

I put HM by Wimmer due to this fact

Ahh. Well, yes, if we had had TWENTY-NINE honorable mentions instead of five, I think we would have had room for some of those players!

Plus 24 regular All-Americans.  Much easier to be inclusive with 53 slots. :)

BigMac

WOW, Looks like a hit a nerve!! Not putting your list down at all. I'm sure it is thought out and takes a long time to do. I'm just showing someone else's opinion (and that is what your list is also, your opinion) And you are correct the D-III news selections have many more spots then yours.

I showed the list on another forum where someone was upset about only 1 Amhurst player getting a selection on D3 but I showed that D-III News also only had the same 1 selection from Amhurst.

I was responding to bbald eagle that no D-3 Hoops did not have any UMW players on it's selection but that others did. And yes my daughter is one of the UMW selections on D-III news so as a proud DAD of coarse I would like that list much, much better then yours :)

Its amazing how opinions are so biased when you have a kid playing for a team. Its one thing to be proud but another thing to totally find a pre-season stat to help your argument. Pre-season polls are opinion yes, and Im sure the people coming up with them dont have daughters playing. D3 hoops is on point with its selections. I mean I watch a lot of basketball and from what I've seen UMW is always over-rated by you big mac. Its time you take a realistic approach to your daughters team. Actually just wait one year and I'm sure your opinion will change. UMW is a solid program yes but they underachieve year after year. The 2 players you mentioned played better as freshman than they do now. They had a supporting cast then, now they have been asked to be the main components and lets be honest they have not flourished in that role. I can say that because one of them is not my daughter. Its really time to leave opinions to to people who dont have kids playing. I mean be proud of her but dont overhype or blame officials for the short comings of YOUR team. Just knowing your daughter plays for UMW really taints your objectivity. Enjoy the season all.

Just to be clear, I have no problem with Big Mac posting the D-III News preseason awards. He didn't hit a nerve with me. Pat and I were just pointing out that the two lists are significantly different in structure.

Also I have no problem with Big Mac being a homer for UMW. I'd be a homer for them too if my daughter played there.
