Bill was the long time head coach of Marymount who retired at the end of the 2010 season with 553 wins. He was the first president of the CAC and he's an expert on women's Division III basketball level. You can read more about him here:

Congrats to UMW on winning the regional and good luck in the sectional. I've been aware of your program ever since the victory over Scranton in the Sweet 16 game of 2007, shattering the 63-game home winning streak. Messiah was a good team this year, although I suspect Katelyn Vanderhoff was less than 100%. Now you get another well-coached team in Lebanon Valley.
From the boxscore, it looks like Amanda Witmer made a significant contribution to the victory; she was the best player on a weak team at my neighborhood school(Magruder) and I was uncertain how well she would do at a program with UMW's aspirations.

No fighting I-95, Bruins should be in Fredericksburg before sunset. (not sure of drive time between there and DC)  Although they have business to attend to I hope they are able to get out and experience some of your areas rich history. I don't know much about each team in our bracket but kudos to your seasons and congrats in making it this far. Should be some awesome games this weekend!

The Mary Washington campus itself was part of a battlefield in the Civil War and abuts the battlefield park:

Thank You for the read. To reflect on all that took place on the same ground that we are battling for a chance to merely move on in a basketball game 150 years later is humbling. I hope the team can absord the surroundings they are in as well as focus on the task at hand.

My wife and I will be at the sectional. Any recommendations on restaurants?  Something that says, "Thanks for coming to the basketball games with me even though you don't really like sports?" :)

Gordonmann,
Take a look at Ristorante Renato (www.rrenato.com). It's a few blocks from campus, very romantic, great food. No big screen TVs or raucus sprts fans. Might do the trick for you.  :)

Looks like my suspicion that you'd be working at UMW this weekend was correct. My wife likes sports in general; she just can't stand sneakers squeeking on a basketball court. Enjoy the weekend, Gordon.

Ronk:

Yep. You ended up being right.

Brookland:

Excellent. Thanks.

By the way, if anyone wants to stop by and say hello, I'll be the guy in the Detroit Tigers hat with the red goatee.

Go Bruins!!!!

This is a beautiful facility. The nicest home locker room I've ever seen at this level.

According to this: https://web1.ncaa.org/TES/exec/miles

Bowdoin  is 496 miles away from Leb Valley, which falls below the 500 mile mark.  GF will have to fly anywhere to matter where the sectional is, but if it's in Leb Valley the NCAA only has to fly 1 in (George Fox), but if it's at Mary Washington the NCAA will have to fly 2 (Bowdoin & GF)

You know the interesting thing is that if you use this NCAA site to calculate the distance, depending on which team you put first, you get two different answers. Bowdoin to Lebanon Valley - 496. Lebanon Valley to Bowdoin - 500. Interestingly enough, when the full bracket came out, I made a spread sheet of all distances in the George Fox bracket using the same NCAA mileage site, and Lebanon Valley to Bowdoin came up as 501. So, depending on how/when you use the site the NCAA followed their stated criteria. Now as to why the order makes a difference, that's a great question for someone to ask the NCAA. Not that it really matters at this point.

Great victory by the Bruins today, shooting 72.9% in the second half! Bruins all the way!

UMW gets its first loss of the season in the Elite 8 game Vs George Fox. 30-1. Great season for UMW.  Tonight they lost to a better team. GF shot the lights out and are only the 4th team to score 50 or more points Vs UMW

Jenna McRae and Katie Wimmer end up with the same total points over the 4 years - 1383

This was a year to remember, what a great run. These players and coaches should be VERY proud of what they have done this season

All the best to GF wish them well in the final four
