In the case of a tie, it goes head-to-head first.  If a tie-breaker cannot be determined from that, it then goes to record against conference opponents not involved in the tie from top to bottom.  If both Mary Washington and Christopher Newport win out, Mary Washington should be the #1 seed as they would have swept Marymount and Christopher Newport went 1-1 against them.

You're right.  I've looked at too many conference tiebreakers this week to think clearly.

Some conferences go from bottom up, some go from top down.  The CAC just happens to go from top to bottom.
Just makes Wednesday's game between Mary Washington @ Marymount that more important.

I always thought the most fair thing was to go top to bottom for teams ahead of you and then bottom to top for teams below you.

That was a bad loss for Mary Wash...how big are the next two games for CNU and the Eagles?

GO LADY CAPS!

The CAC actually used to go bottom up not that long ago... they also didn't have a coin flip, but relied on a number drawn by each school at the beginning of the year. Those numbers where used for all final tie-breakers in all sports. Who ever had the best number (lower, closer to 1) was considered the winner. They got rid of that when it started to become the same teams always winning the tiebreakers in multiple sports each year. That's when they went to the coin flip.

CNU and UMW at #12 and #15 in the Top 25 respectively...will be interesting to see how they both fare in the regional rankings on Wednesday.

And Marymount's at #25. Three CAC teams in the Top 25. I wonder if that's happened before? Probably not.

Good catch, bbald eagle...forgot about Marymount...they also might make the regional rankings this week.  Marymount and UMW have had very good programs for years, while I believe York has sprinkled in some good teams here and there, so I wouldn't be surprised if three CAC teams had previously been in the Top 25 together...at any rate, it shows how solid the conference is!

I'd have to check the history, but with how good this conference has been in women's basketball in it's history... I think three teams in the Top 25 has happened on several occasions. Marymount, Mary Washington, Salisbury come to mind.

CNU goes from 3 to 5, UMW from 1 to 2 and Marymount comes in at 7 in the second set of regional rankings...interesting that the Lady Captains drop two spots after losing at home to a good team, while the Eagles only drop one spot after losing at home to a bad team. ???

Updated rankings: http://www.d3hoops.com/notables/2017/02/women-regional-rankings-second

One more thing to remember about the difference between first and second regional rankings is that the second version uses results vs. regionally ranked opponents. That's skipped in the first week because it's logistically difficult.

Thanks, Pat, that's probably what it is, as CNU's 1-1 and UMW's 3-1....

Okay, ladies, it's there for the taking...this kind of opportunity is what you play for...enough said!

GO LADY CAPTAINS!

Ugly first half at MMT last night for UMW: Horrible shooting and leaden feet on defense. Marymount's knocked off CNU and Mary Washington late in the season and is on the upswing as the tournament approaches, but it's consecutive losses for the Eagles, who need to pull it back together quickly if they're going to prevent their season from going down in flames.

Congrats to CNU for taking care of business at York and wrapping up the regular season...keep it going, ladies!
