The Lady Captains return virtually everyone from last season, so the potential is there for another great run!  We'll see if they can play at a high level on a consistent basis and handle the high expectations that have come from their success.

And stay healthy all the way through the season.

Yes, that too!

Just noticed(from a recent AAU tourney list of attending coaches) that St. Mary's has a new head coach in CK Calhoun, former player and assistant @ Marymount, HC @ Shenandoah, and associate HC @ Lafayette. I've talked with CK a few times over the years at AAU tourneys and envision her enabling the Seahawks to eventually become a factor in the CAC.

Yes - she was named in August I think? Might have been early September. She was actually named interim head coach at Lafayette earlier this summer, but I gathered that they weren't necessarily going to give her the job once the official search was over. I know a number of high-quality coaches who applied to that job. Glad to see a solid coach was chosen. Disappointed some of those I have strong feelings where were not (though, I love Calhoun as well) - I hope they find work sometime soon. I look very much forward to seeing how she does at SMC along with the men's program to shake the CAC up.

Normally, I would say, with the late appointment, that CK has missed the 2018 recruiting season(Lafayette and SMC wouldn't have been evaluating comparable prospects), but, in this particular case, there are many uncommitted 2018s who would be an upgrade to the current roster. They'll need them to crack the CAC's upper echelon of CNU, UMW, Salisbury, and Marymount.

SMC isn't exactly the easiest to get into and per the recruiting stories I hear out of there it can be a real challenge in a normal year. However, even if she missed this year or portion of it, I don't think it matters in the long run. They will need a few years of solid recruiting probably before they can start truly cracking the upper echelon. They can certainly play spoiler and make their presence known in the meantime as they rebuild(?).

The Women's Preseason D3hoops.com Top 25 is out!

CNU narrowly ends up second - their highest ranking in program history - behind Tufts and just a smidge ahead of Amherst.

Exhibition game tonight - at ODU. Should be interesting....the 2 spinoff schools from W&M. Too bad CNU alum is no longer coach at ODU.

CNU loses by 7 at ODU...not a bad showing.

Especially since they appear to still be without Jessica Dagiulh.
