UMW 92, Frostburg 56
Senior guard Jenn Olinger poured in a career-high 21 points to lead the fourth-ranked University of Mary Washington women's basketball team to a 92-56 win over Frostburg State University on Monday at Goolrick Gymnasium. The Eagles improve to 23-0 overall, and remain the only undefeated team in NCAA Division III women's basketball.
UMW jumped out early, leading 50-22 at halftime. The Eagles were 8-12 on three-pointers in the opening frame, and 10-11 from the free throw line. Frostburg made just five field goals in the first half.
Olinger scored her career high 21 points on 8-11 shooting from the floor, including 4-6 on three pointers. Also in double figures for the Eagles were Debbie Bruen and Leigh Kampman with twelve points each, while Liz Hickey scored eleven points and added 14 rebounds and seven blocked shots, and Ashton Mitchell added ten points.
Frostburg was led by Stephanie Watts' 16 points, and Kristin Hargrove's 13.

Interesting talking to FSU's coach afterward... Scranton beat Frostburg by eleven earlier in the year...

Great team win last night, Eagles.  :) Very impressive individual numbers, too, at 20 minutes or so a player.

So who nominates the POY/ROY and the weekly award winners? Is it the coaches or SID's ?

No one nominates the POY/ROY.  The league's coaches each vote for the player on another team who they think deserves the recognition.  The procedure is set out in part 2 of the CAC Handbook, available at:

Matt,

As strong as you feel about Linderoth for ROY, I feel equally as strong about Ward's candidacy.

A ranking between the two players using this week's CAC Stats:

PPG: Ward (11th, 11.3 ppg), Linderoth (12th, 10.7 ppg)
RPG: Ward (1st, 8.6 rpg), Linderoth (11th, 6.4 rpg)
FG %: Linderoth (5th, 51.1%), Ward (8th, 44.0%)
Assists: Ward (1st, 5.4 apg), Linderoth (not ranked)
FT%: Linderoth (4th, 81.8%), Ward (6th, 81.1%)
Steals: Ward (6th, 2.1 spg), Linderoth (not ranked)
3pt FG%: Neither ranked
3pt FG Made: Neither ranked
Blocked Shots: Linderoth (5th, 1.14 bpg), Ward (T11th, 0.57 bpg)
Assist to Turnover Ratio: Ward (1st, 2.05), Linderoth (not ranked)
Offensive Rebounds: Ward (2nd, 3.13 orpg), Linderoth (12th, 2.36 orpg)
Defensive Rebounds: Ward (2nd, 5.48 drpg), Linderoth (11th, 4 drpg)

I think that if you go by statistics, which I think you can do in a ROY situation as opposed to POY which should include team success, then Keli is the hands down ROY. Add her importance to a young team and, to me :), she is the winner.
I know there are some good freshman in the league but Keli, in my opinion, is the best of the bunch.

Well you can't go wrong with either, but in Linderoth's defense...

Because Catholic is deeper and a little older than York, Linderoth is playing fewer minutes.  I'm going to sort of use your argument from the men's board here on you.  She's playing 7 fewer minutes a game and is on, statistically, a better team...so it stands to reason her numbers are going to be slightly less on ppg and rpg.  But the thing that jumps up is field goal percentage--Ward is taking (and missing) more shots to get to her numbers.

I'm sure why ROY is any different than POY in terms of team success.   Also, Linderdoth is really coming on strong here at the end of the season.  Unlike Ward, she didn't start all her team's games.  Her playing time has increased throughout the year as its been clear how good she is.

You can make a really strong argument either way.

Time for my occasional mention of Clarkin, or Kampman, or Larson...
All three have been major reasons why UMW has had such a great year, and gives UMW a completely different look than last year (read: high pressure).

Hopefrully I'll have a halftime score from MMT soon...

Clint,

Good points but there is a reason that Keli plays alot of minutes. She's really good. And also, I am not sure Catholic is that much better than York right now. The Mary Washington kids are hurt in the same way that York's guys are. Great teams don't always get the individual recognition.

Anyway,

at the half, York 46-Gallaudet 22.

Ward has eight points, seven boards, three asssists in just 13 minutes.

Halftime in Arlington,
UMW 34, MMT 26

Big first half for Liz Hickey...

Final from York...

YCP 81-Gallaudet 52

Keli Ward finishes with 16 points, six assists, nine rebounds and two turnovers in 22 minutes. Kristen Daly adds 14 while Jess Kemp has 11. Jessica Salisbury leads Gallaudet with 14 points while Johanna Karmgard chips in with 13.

I do hope UMW gets to play Scranton in the tournament. Then we'll see which team was appropriately ranked.  And learn to spell  >:(

Ghost of MIAC Past

As someone that has played both teams, I give the nod to UMW over Scranton.  Scranton is very very inconsistent from outside, but very big inside.  My vote is still for UMW though.

Oh, what an ass...correct me if I'm wrong, eaglepeople, but wasn't it senior night at Marymount?  The Marymount women's program is pretty damn proud, I would expect them to show up and BRING IT on their senior night.  Winning there is a good win for Mary Wash.  It was also a good win for Catholic.
